Wow, I've made scones, watched them being made, and eaten them for years but I have never before seen anyone fry them! Is the texture the same?? And have you ever tried baking them with this particular recipe? In other words, if I didn't want to try pan-frying, is this still a good recipe for baking? Thnx!
No, the texture isn't the same which is why I like them fried. They come out a bit heavier and I thing they have more flavour due to the browning. You could bake this recipe but it is designed for cooking in a fry pan and would recommend you use one designed for an oven if you wish to bake them.
they look so yummy, could i put cheese in them? would i need to put more liquid in tho? and i dont have one of those things you cooked them in =( could i do them in the oven? i've never made them before
You could add up to 3/4 cup of shredded cheese and you shouldn't have to add any additional liquid as the cheese will just melt. I think they turn out better fried so if you don't have an electric fry pan, just cook them on a covered fry pan over medium heat. I hope you try them and like them!

This recipe is not as good baked. There are several good scone recipes done in the oven on the internet.

Baking powder is different. You could try it but it will not rise as much.

just put the butter in the mike for 15 secs
knowlesybeast1 2 years ago
Actually, that would make it less flaky
treasurer6 2 years ago
that is very interesting ..i have to try to fry an scone for myself in order to know the yummy taste ~~

Cant u just soften the butter in the microwave & then mix it in the flour?
dirtyxdeeds 2 years ago
No! The butter must be cold and cut in or it will ruin the consistency.

Scones prepared like pancakes, interesting. But why not use the mixer in the right-hand corner - less mess.

Scones, like biscuits turn out better without a mixer in my opinion. The butter doesn't get fully mixed in so they turn out flakier.

I agree, they turn out so much better pan-fried than baked in an oven.
The addition of cheese sounds interesting.
