I'm 17, I grew up in an abusive home. I ate food as a comfort. Therefore, now I am 220 lbs. I cry in shower all the time because I HATE the way I look. My classmates started calling me fat in the 6th grade and I never recovered from there. I'm seriously trying to do something about it now, but I have no self esteem. No sense of want anymore..
This was a good video! I never realized how many girls feel "fat", even when they look perfectly normal! However, I myself have always felt the opposite, always feeling too thin and stick-like. I'm 5"9 and 110lbs (naturally). I think there are other girls that must feel this way too. I like this video because it makes me realize that we have to love ourselves just the way we are =)
I'm 14, am 5'6" and weight 120 lbs. I've recovered from anorexia twice, both initiated by my aunt's comments about "Me being cuter if I were a size 0".
I know how hard it is to be under all this pressure. Even now, I'm still trying to get back to that nice 102lbs that I had before, but in a healthy way. So to everybody else, stay strong and keep on trucking! Love yourself <3
I'm 135lbs and 5'5" and 16. I hate it. I'm "recovering" from my eating disorder (I went from 220 to 135 in like 9 months) but all I want to do is stop eating again because I still look disgusting.
@softballpitcher003 If you have a question, talk to your doctor or a balanced nutritionist about what would be a healthy weight for you, your age, and activity level. There are great ways to achieve these goals!
I'm 13 and weigh 142pounds and I'm a ballerina I have body image disorder and am alwase on a diet it drives me crazy I try to stop but I can't it's really sucks it even keeps me up at nights I think that that is what the media has done to kids like me
@iluvpurple479 I'm a dancer too. There can be a lot of pressure to look a certain way in that field! It's great to eat healthy, but if the worrying is taking a toll on your mental health, it might be good to evaluate your goals, and why you are dancing in the first place. What made you start, what keeps you going, what do you want to achieve?
I am 5 foot 4 and about 121lbs, I struggle with myself in the mirror every day. I have heard of the term Body Dismorphic Disorder being tossed around as well. I am always told how pretty I am, living in Vegas you see more models and picture perfect girls and not many girl next door, natural beauty's or pretty and cute girls. It seems the more we see these perfect girls the more of a fight we have with ourselves, and I can say at 121 lbs I am more athletic than feminine.
behind this is an industry, an industry of profit and abuse. It is not "natural" because in all cultures, beauty is defined another way. In some cultures it is fat , in some thin, in some huge disks in lips, or rings around the neck or tiny bound feet. The meda projects millions of images so that people become dependant on that cultural image of "how one should look like" so that their products will sell.
This was a great video. It raises a lot of awareness and there were some statistics I didn`t even know (I`ve done a few of these videos myself) I have to say though that the music was a little detracting and I had to mute the video after a while. That is my only complaint (and it`s a little one) Good job!
I've been gaining 11 lbs. a year for 4 years since I was 9, I'm almost 14 now. I was 90 lbs. when I was 9, now I'm 135 lbs. at 5'4"-5'5" which is very unhealthy. I want to lose 40 lbs. now.
@Trav19970 That is NOT unhealthy. 5'4" and 250 is probably unhealthy, mostly because of the weight pressing down on the legs. I am 5'2" and 190lbs. I have perfect cholesterol, perfect blood pressure. I've never had any serious medical problems. I've been on sports teams all my life. I can run a mile in about 8 minutes, if I'm not trying to hard. You are healthy, if you eat healthy. Health is NOT determined by your weight.
You're only 14, its natural for you to gain more weight as you're going through puberty. Also, 135 lb at your height range of 5'4"- 5'5" IS healthy. Check your bmi if you don't believe me. Just give your body some time to fill out and develop before you do anything drastic with it. When you're around 18-20 years old and you're still unhappy with your weight and your weight goal is within REASON, then you can try to loose weight. Doing it now will just mess up your body.
Once I hit 10, i started to gain weight. Everyone was a douche to me and told me to lose weight. I hate the pressures of being thin. And I hate that men can't overlook what the media says on being thin and pretty.
ever since 2nd grade people have called me fat,and i took it very seriously. ever since i've been putting myself on diets and workouts BUT THEY NEVER WORK!!!:(
@MileyMe16if you try and lose weight because everybody else wants you to, then its for the wrong reasons. Respect yourself first and do it for you, for your life, no one else's.
I am so grateful for having seen this clip!!! I was feeling so down and frustrated about myself and my body but after seeing this, especially the last part, I'm changing it all up. Thanks a bunch!!
Ever notice how they do the same thing to guys? Most "admirable, strong, successful ect" males in the media are extremely chisled and not ugly, but all superheroes of some sort {or complete baffoons}. Look at magazine covers with men... it's the same thing they do to girls except they use sports stars, ninjas & the likes of other conquerers as an unrealistic image for males to strive towards. Be like this guy and you'll be loved and respected. Be like this girl and you'll be loved and respected.
EVery one check out my video! I used the statisitics from this to form a PSA. Oh, and thank you for them, I couldnt fina ANY statistics anywhere, So I thank you! :)
Unfortunately we have become slaves to the media. The media is in it to make money. They can care less about character or the effects of unattainable images. They know that sex and sex appeal sells. Problem for us is that we don't understand nor value self. Since we don't value the inner parts of ourselves, then we are left with no hope out side of what gratifies the senses. Instead of becoming wise, we would rather be a beautiful FOOL. And you wonder why forgeiners pity this country.
Wow this video is so necessary today. Thank to findyourtruebeauty for posting it.
I remember when I was about 12 years old...I was really popular etc. in school...but I remember looking in a full length mirror and telling myself my hips weren't big enough. My body wasn't sexy enough. I remember thinking "I'd better get a good job and be a lawyer, so I can get surgery later" I am not kidding. I was a popular, well-adjusted girl. I had not even hit puberty.
@Pat2656 i can so relate 2 ur thoughts. 2days perfect image 4 females is the sexy hourglass figure. n only a small percentage r naturally like dat. :(
Well MussyPagnet, eating disorders, though commonly associated with anorexia and bulimia, could be anything. Obesity is an eating disorder. Eating disorders are when you are not eating correctly. Like me, the fact that, though I am skinny, I eat junk food to no end, is an eating disorder. See where Im coming from?
The athlete one is so true, I used to be a gymnast before I was hospitalized for annorexia, and then I quit becuase it got too expensive and I'm healthier now, although wayyy fatter which is shitty but at least I have a more healthy relationship with food.
i remember being 4 years old n not wanting to where my gymnasticts uniform becase i was afraid that i looked fat, now i relize that at that age thinking about that is just sad and the worst thing about it is that if i have kids they will most likely suffer from the same thoughts as me, and belive that they will have to starve for perfection as i do
They are both problems that need to be addressed? Why either/or? It doesn't change the fact that ED's are extremely serious and the awareness needs to get out there more.
Wow that hit the spot for me. I am 4'11 I was 130 naturally but was still told I was over weight but I am now overweight by 30 pounds but factor in that I had two kids and they were a year and a half apart. The media makes it look like all the pregnant actresses lost weight over night but in real life it takes time. At this point I am happy with who I am and am losing the weight for my own health, the media can take their image at shove it up there a**!!
Yeah, and if celebrities do lose the weight fast, they have their own personal trainers and nutritionists every step of the way, In fact, they have help like that all the time! The media upsets me so much, but there's an audience for it so...
I loved this video =) our bodies are a temple of God and hurting our bodies is hurting God and telling God what He made was a mistake.. God doesn;t make mistakes. We are all created in His image and are made for His perfect plan =)
Well if you don't believe in God then of course you're not going to care about "honoring Him" with your body, but I believe in God, and I believe He created me and I believe I am "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Ps. 139:14). Therefore, God has everything to do with health and body image: I need to take care of the body that God gave me. You can go ahead and disagree with me, but I'm just putting that out there.
Excellent video! The statistics speak volumes. I agree that if we devoted more of ourselves to God maybe many of our problems wouldn't exist. However there are many who do not believe in or haven't found God who may nevertheless deperately need this video's message and yet would be turned off by the reference. Bottom line is: who you are is not what you look like.
Thank you for mentioning God -- He is the One who has the power to help us overcome all adversities in life and all addictions. I pray that millions of women will watch this video and call upon His name for help. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
