  • I'm about to go nip some bud myself...

  • @retrojenny yeah OMG they would have a crying fit today and sueing the show the writers everybody

  • I'm not sure how some people are turning this into a culture mud slinging racist -uncivilized debate, just watch the video & learn from it. when Norman Lear & Red Foxx wrote this episode it was to expose the ignorance among races & bring CIVIL dialogue about other cultures to the fore front. Some of you are quick to be sensitive concerning this episode, but yet you hide behind the same injustices & contradictions as Fred ( only difference is, the race & face). Conqueror your own contradictions.

  • Norman Lear was the man! He created: The Jeffersons, S&S, Good Times, Maude, What's Happening, All in the family.......... each show touched on all sides of the spectrum-- list goes on and on--- in other words, it wasn't politically correct. Today, TV shows is for the pits.

  • Puerto Ricans We are the people. He's a racist .....who is he to Judge Puerto Rican People.....

  • @2632jibaro the same way Puerto Ricans and any other race judges another race. cool off, in the time period this show was made, it was a whole lot of judging going on. and that was the point of doing this episode to expose that very ignorance during that time period.

  • Freddy G always angry lmao. Love this show. RIP Red Foxx

  • @KillSwitch2 You are truly living in a dream world. Who do you think was doing all that stuff before the middle-aged unskilled Mexicans swarmed into the unguarded Eden? Do you believe Mexicans came here to generations of unwashed dishes and unkempt neighborhoods? Do you think Mexican youth have been a blessing to the American public school student body? No. A culture of people who find nothing wrong with theft, whether educational benefits or employment opportunities, needs to stay in MEXICO.

  • Fred Sanford was ahead of his time. Only it wasn't the Puerto Ricans that would become the festering cancer on the American culture. It would be the Mexicans. They are the rotting tooth in the gleaming smile of the beauty queen known as America.

  • @20alphabet

Don't hate mexicans just because they are slowly overtaking you. Good chunks of your so-called "queen known as America" wouldn't even be able to survive if it weren't for them. Who do you think is going to cut your grass, keep your streets clean, pick your fruits and vegetables and make sure they are ready for consumption every morning at your local market? If every mexican in California were to up and leave the entire state would collapse and declare a state of emergency.

  • no u shut up lamont

  • This episode, along with The Shootout, are two of my favorite episodes of Sanford and Son, those two episodes are my favorites, both of these are hilarious episodes. :)

  • Why do they refer to Chico as "he" throughout the series. If Chico produced milk, wouldn't that make him a she?

  • @ccbs82 That's a good point but Chico also has horns which would make him male. Maybe the writers were confused about whether it was a he or a she.

  • Yeah how can a ghetto be beautiful?!!? Hahahaha

  • there it goes, again. will you listen that? he´ll be growing a garden in his backyard.

  • The intention of this episode WAS to instigate a debate on racism. Why are you surprised that it has gotten the intended response? It has brought attention to an issue, so that it may be discussed and resolved.

  • @itsSasha0908

That's why Norman Lear was such a great and important tv icon. None of the networks today would have the balls to air a program like 'Sanford and Son' today. Today's sitcoms are truly garbage by comparison.

  • @KillSwitch2 well said!

  • listen melvin leave the door open the flies aint been out all say funny as hell

  • This isnt really that relevent but who cares I beleive the only people who arent racist toward any body not even a little are the ones that are rasists toward EVERYBODY. This isnt really relevent and I might be wrong but I think the only way to fight rasism is to admit everyones a little bit racist and deal with it openly not protest it then go behind peoples backs and say and do racist things.

  • Comment removed

  • After nearly 40 years, this show rocks.

Thank God for the wonderful genius Norman Lear.

  • Fred:"That's it. That's It! There goes the neighborhood"

The Puerto Rican National Anthem "We'll take Manhattan Long and Stanton Island too!"

  • LOLOL hey melvin, leave the door open, the flies ain't been out all day!

  • Lamont was so disrespectful to his elders

  • MAFUNGO?

  • @airbourned u betta sprinkle sum foot powder on dat Lmao

  • stereotypical comedy :) i'm 1/2 puerto rican and i think this is funny!

  • @weewaa101

I think you need to do two things.

    1. Re read your history.

    2. This was good TV, I grew up on this TV, and I am not racist one except against tree huggers like you

  • dey used catz to make strings fo da guitar lmaoo

  • what was up with Norman Lear's obsession with Puerto Ricans? Puerto Ricans in Watts? What the Hell? His characters are usually based on what was relevant at the time. There HAS never been a big migration of Puerto Ricans anywhere near Watts. At the time the Salvadorians were making their way into Watts. This isn't New York. Nowadays Watts is all Mexican and Salvadorian so I could have totally believed the friction Stanford and the blacks had with the hispanics from Mexico and Central America.

  • if someone gave me some "mafungo" I would sprinke some foot powder on it! LMAOOOOO!!!

  • Personally IMHO I don't believe in "PC" stuff. That's just MY OPINION. Because #1 if a person wants to say something there is nothing stopping him from saying it. Being criticized or labeled a racist, homophobic, etc doesn't count. There's no legal punishment for being ignorant as long as you're not inciting violence. I think people who go on about PC (not anyone here though and I'm NOT being sarcastic) just wants to complain. #2 just have manners and treat others with the golden rule, peace

  • if even i make noise i make it in english, ahahhhaha.

  • if even i make noise i make it in english, ahahhhaha.

  • lol yu got to nip them things in da in da buhd i mean nip in n da buhd c dat buhd is nipd

  • People stop repeating lines and stop being sensitive! Back in the day (even though I'm REALLY to young) these shows would toughin' ppl up! They would know racism and how to take it as a joke, because we are all people and the writers and producers know that! Do you think they would honestly have a racist producer or writer in show buisness?! Think real hard or you might hurt yourself. Archie/Sanford/George would joke and be made a fool off...purpose of these shoes= Take the damn joke!

  • @narusakuNO You're right, my friend. That's why these types of shows would never be produced today. Our PC society has made everyone so overly sensitive, that there are always total overreatoins. There's a differece between true racism and using these racist situations as showing it in a funny, cleaver way that gets the point across without preaching to everyone. Brilliant writing/acting. I miss the 70's/80's sooooo much!!!

  • Ignorance, a million times!!!

  • " Mofongo..If somebody gave me mofongo I'd sprinkle foot powder on it!" LMAO!!

  • @carl22069 why is it something?

  • GREAT show!!! Best comedy ever. For thoses upset at this humor, you don't "get" it. Shows like S&S, All in the Family, and The Jeffersons were using comedy to show the stupidity of racism and that racism can be within any race and is equally wrong. These shows portrayed this to perfection, were wonderfully written, and used comedy to get through our defenses. You'll never see talent like this again in acting and writing.

  • If I do make noise, I make it in English!

  • there goes the neighborhood...

  • As young as I am, I love this show I hope it never goes off the air. The theme song is even my ringtone lol I'm a goof I know.

  • @lilAspyne

RINGTONE!! I'll be doggone! I'm as big a Sanford and Son as you'll find anywhere, but I never thought about using the theme song for my ringtone. Well ... I'm off to get the S&S ringtone for my new Droid.

    Thank you, lilAspyne!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3 people are puerto ricans! lol

  • HEY YOU YOU BETTER CUT THAT NOISE DOWN IF YOU DON'T WANT SOME TROUBLE DON'T HAVE ME COME OVER THEIR AND GIVE YOU A BUNCH OF TROUBLE BUDDY AND I MEAN IT CAUSE I'LL BE OVER THERE ON YOU

  • Comment removed

  • i suppose u dont ever think you make noise fred-well if i do i make it in english lol!!!

  • Puerto Rickens lol

  • Bud nipper LOL

Leave tha door open, the flies ain't been out all day LOL

    I had Fuentes once LOOOOOL

  • Too funny.

  • If somebody gave me mofongo I'd sprinkle some foot powder on it

  • my bud nipper is a sword

  • Folks need to relax, it's just a tv show. And here's the funny thing, the people that complain know good and well that they say these same types of stereotypes, but behind closed doors or behind the other persons back. It's a humorous television show and on this show Fred often spoke bad about his son and friends. Atleast he eovered all bases xD

  • I sure do miss him. He was the black Archie Bunker, only funnier!

  • @Ilovelucyclassics no way jose fred is totally number 1

  • @BlackSpittingCobra he even beats jed clampett and mr drysdale

  • @BlackSpittingCobra and archie bunker and edith bunker as well as moe, larry and curly

  • Freddy G was way ahead of his time only he mixed up the Puerto Ricans with the Mexicans!

  • @billy357magnum1 Lol Puerto Ricans aren`t Wet Backs but it was all funny though

  • @HillLecter your right their not wet backs but it's the wet backs that are coming over here like a swarm of cockroaches

  • the puerto ricans are coming !!

  • ah melvin leave the door open the flies aint been out all day lmao!!!

  • I had fuentes once... for three days. Lol

  • Tryna find the name of my fav Sanford and Son episode. Its the one when all the cast was sitting in the audience watchig a ground of white actors potraying there roles and Ester yells to the white one its SUCKA!.....LOL.....please help me find that episode.

  • @nickelwindow53

That episode is called: "Steinberg and Son". Mynjunkyard has that episode uploaded here on YouTube.

  • It's a sitcom gimme a break. Everyone is so sensitive that no one can even express an opinion unless it winds up being a huge controversy. Everything is not racist, Lamont corrects Fred all the time. Fred bashed everyone no matter what race, that was just his way, especially Esther. If you are gonna harp on this episode you just as well harp on him for assuming Raalo was a thief all the time and for him bashing alcoholics like Woodrow, both of whom were black.

  • Fred Sanford was the equivilent of Archie Bunker... both of em are mad at the world.

  • The only show today that seems to get away with this sort of dialog is Family Guy. People need to lighten up a bit and stop taking everything to heart, it may have been a bit cutting edge but it was and is still funny just like Family Guy is today. What they talk about and poke fun at on these shows is no different than what we sit around and laugh about with our friends and family in our private conversations. It's just entertainment.

  • this is PRECIOUS

  • Shows from the 70's like "Sanford & Son" "All In The Family" "The Jeffersons" have are racist as hell but too too funny. Shows like that could never air in 2010

  • @MrBdBy78 I believe shows like the ones you mentioned should be given credit so much because Making Fun Of RACISM KILLS RACISM and shows the ignorance of it.

If You notice that almost all the episodes where George/Archie/Fred made racist comments they would end up looking like fools.

I wish we still had shows with the same content

  • @HillLecter I never thought of it like that but I'd have to agree. My coworker is white and Im black and if anyone every heard the jokes we throw at eachother, their jaws would drop! Neither one of us use the rougher racial slurs but it fun. Sometimes we talk serious issues including race, but we work well together, respect eachother, and everythings cool. So I agree.

  • @mazdarati220 Yes I`m with you 90% of my friends are either White or Asian. I can`t think of a day that goes by without a race joke.

It`s all in fun and games because i think hating on someone because of their skin color is So ignorant that it`s funny.

Yesterday I went to Nandos with my Chinese mate and I said that he was comfy because they don`t serve Dogs. He is English with makes it even funnier.

  • one of the best shows ever,,, they made fun of everything on this show... including african culture. if u dont beleive watch LAMONT GOES AFRICAN

  • so racist

  • Are Puerto-'Rickins' like EYE-talians?

  • @callixandrus peurto rickin

    haha

  • i'm puerto rican and this is really some funny stuff. Fred's also an intelligent writer for Fuentes means fountain as in fountain water and fred said it was something one catches when drinking their water. lol. Now Mofongo is actually an African dish brought to the island by African slaves brought into Puerto Rico. It's plantains, garlic and lil salt with fat back all pounded in together. They have other foods from Africa like gandinga, gandules (pigeon peas), mondongo, funche, etc etc...

  • RACISM IS FUNNY LOVE FRED

  • This is the last appearance of the late Slappy White as Melvin and the first appearance of Gregory Sierra as Julio Fuentes.

  • OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • wow..pretty racist

  • Órale!

    Puerto-"Rickin's" rule!

  • Right off Liberty Ave & Penn Ave in Pittsburgh, between the Strip District & Lawrenceville neighborhoods, there were 2-3 junk/scrap dealers on the same block.

  • "Well if I do make noise I make it in English!"

South of the border butts! LMAO

  • yeah that latin lettuce

  • I had Fuentez once, for 3 days. rofl.

  • BigMrG - Right On!!!;)

  • I love Puerto Ricans, I love Fred Sanford and I love how these sitcoms made us all think about issues, all in the name of comedy...same as what Chappelle accomplished. Love the social commentary it makes on the older vs. younger generations. Today it's the older generation that's wiser...today it's way too popular to refrain from being honest and just being politically correct instead...a bore and a danger.

  • Right on, CoolWhiteChick. All the comedy from Redd Foxx's Fred Sanford character and all the stuff from Chappelle's is GOLD. It really brings all of us together and gets us to laugh at the basic things in life that we all have in common.

  • I agree. Political correctiveness has ruined comedy on TV, hands down.

  • ApparitionZ - i agree 100%

  • OMG I cannot believe that this blog has morphed in2 some ridiculous debate on racism! IT's A TV SITCOM!!! Enjoy it!!! IT'S NOT ABOUT REAL PEOPLE. "All & The Family" & "Sanford & Son" were written 2 address issues of the day. Just watch the damn episode & shut up with the debates/arguements/speeches. WTF....

  • people are stupid lol.

  • yall mufuckas dont deserve to watch this show. jeez. RIP chitown redd!!!

  • Yeah Fred, how can a GHETTO be beautiful?! lmao

  • oh thats right... cockroaches never existed in the entire united states until people from an island came to visit. because billions upon billions of cockroaches only existed on one little island and they all hitched a ride with the first puerto rican immigrant

    dont be stupid

  • I don't think there were any rats here until us whitey's showed up :-)

  • Nah, Chinese.

  • Who the hell do you think you are you racist Fox news watching inbred.

  • Fred's ignorance was written intentionally. This was also done for All In The Family, in which Bunker was notorius for saying ignorant statements about Jewish, Black and the Polish. Don't get all bent out of shape man. It's all in the name of entertainment. Lamont even counters Fred's views. Ignorance would have existed with or without what is seen on sitcoms.

  • One thing I noticed though in shows like these back in the day. Despite the fact that a character was ignorant when it came to certain races..lets say fred for instance....they'd still help them out if they really needed it. Like when Fred helped out Julios little nephew.

  • your so right man,its all for viewer ratings, and its doingg its job...look at the comments!!!!!

  • @eyeonwashparish Exactly. This kind of show would not survive on tv these days. People are too sensitive. That's why we have lame shows now.

  • @RetroJenny So right !!! Todays comedy can't hold a candle to this stuff. They tip toe around issues and try to pacify every body, even good comedy has been ruined by "political correctness".I'll watch Fred over and over again before I'll watch any of this stupid crap on today.

  • @RetroJenny they on T V Land weekdays mornings,have a great day.

  • @RetroJenny Right!!!!

  • @eyeonwashparish Bunker was Irish

  • I like how people are still going on that people don't know Puerto Ricans.. the point in these episodes was Fred's view of them, and his prejudice.

  • Latin Lettuce!?! ROFL!!

  • This stuff is real comedy. I read that none of the main characters experienced the success they experienced on this show when it was over and they moved on.

  • "If someone gave me Mofongo, I'd sprinkle some foot powder on it ..."

"Listen Melvin, leave the door open, the flies ain't been out all day ..."

    Long live Fred Sanford!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm puertorican and i love this episode!! Sandford is like a grandfather to me... lol

  • And Fred just doesn't know...Mofongo is the Bomb!!!! Con Pollo Frito...mmm!!!

  • Next thing you know, this place is gonna be crawling with puerto rican, wearing them pointed toe shoes and dancing in the street. C lay lay lay C lay lay lay lay lay

  • Hell yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • somebody give me some mafungo i put some foot spray on it! Hilarious!

  • well, at least when i make noise, i make it in english LOL

  • What's a Bud-nipper? HA!HA!HA!

  • a lousiville slugger!!

  • this shit is funny and true haha

  • that's where all the ppl in the neighborhood been dumping they junk. I know and i been picking it up, cleanin it up, and sellin it back to em. Now i can't do that! lmfbo

  • If somebody gave me mafungo i'd sprinkle some foot powder on it, lmao!!!!! One of the funniest lines ever on Sanford and Son.

  • i disagree, one of the best lines on sanford and son came from episode called "there'll be some changes made".

Fred told Lamont's asian friend Achu famously known as Mr. Miagi, Fred said "don't you touch me eggroll or i'll really close your eyes".

  • why is it when all of Fred's next door neighbor is a junk dealer? 1st Goldstein,

2nd Mr. Kelly and 3rd Julio Fuentes.

  • Cuz usually in the inner city, U'll find several junk/scrap dealers situated close 2 or near each other, just like U'll find 2-3 gas stations close 2 each other, or 2-3 neighborhood/corner stores or 2-3 mom/pop clothing stores. Of course in this age of suburban strip malls, huge outlets, & Walmart/Sam's Club & Giant Eagle/GetGo taking over the world & selling everything imaginable, U don't C small mom & pop neighborhood stores anymore. Pretty soon WalMart will start selling junk/scrap 2!!!

  • Big corporations are wiping out small business. In my city, it's apparent. Best Buy (aka electronics rip-off store) has just replaced a small musical equipment store among others. Give me the 70's again anyday.

  • Yep how true!!! Back in the day there were like 4-5 mom/pop food stores in the neighborhood, 2-3 bakeries near each other, 2-3 auto mechanics near each other, a couple barbers/salons on the same block, several jewelers....All gone now.

  • Leave the door open ,the flies haven't been out all day

  • One of my Favorite episode!

  • It's funny how Melvin is always caught in the middle between Fred and Lamont.

  • mexicans run down everything right along with ricans..love sanford!

  • true! and the popularity of the show among whites was partially due to the fact that it allowed whites to soften their guilt about anti-black discrimination by seeing it mirrired in the mouths of african-americans

  • where is the ripple?

  • LOVE THE PEURTO RICAN ANTHEM HAHA

  • its just jokes

  • Im Puertorican and I love this episode! why>? Fred was always wrong, thats the fun of the program, he doesnt like whites, jews, puertoricans, as you see Lamont is a nice guy :)

  • Fred doesnt like anybody,lol.

  • Fred was all ways funny and wrong about some things but at the same time Lamont was not that smart all his so called get rich scheme's failed and he all ways thought he was smarter then his father...Fred lived life and most likely went thru hard times (the Depression) and knows things that Lamont would never know or experianced. Plus Lamont all ways acted like he was the parent and his father was the Son...he was disrespectfull to Fred.

  • African Americans are quick to make jokes about others ethnic groups,,, but dont you dare make jokes about them ,, They be calling you a racist ...ha ha ha.

  • Ok...let me break this down for you. Fred was incredibly ignorant and insensitive. There are some people who are like that; they are soooo ignorant that they are funny. The irony of this episode is the fact that he is saying the exact same things that White people have said about blacks. We, black folks, are just as quick to make jokes about ourselves as well as other people. Relax babe and get your giggle on!

  • very well put.

  • @Kamaria7 Old folks like fred sanford were solely against any competition that could jeopardize their freedom. Sort of a minor race war although you can see how things work out and their first judgements are typically wrong.

  • @Kamaria7 people are just toooo sensitive. I am a white man and I watched Sanford and Son and the Jeffersons. I thought it was hilarious when George called the white guy a honkey. it amazes me how people think. its comedy and its funny.

  • So What happen to you when dave chappelle had his own show? Idiot! lol

  • This episode he supposed to be Archie Bunker-like and at the time racial jokes were shown to show the ignorance from all races.

  • Thats what this Country needs...More people making assumptions about another group of people from what they see on a SIT-COM!!!

  • Chill...I expected to see a lot of comment like these on this series and so far YOU'RE the first one i've seen to say something like this...everyone else realizes that it's comedy and doesnt take it seriously. If there were a line about blacks? Try watching "All in the Family"...stop keeping things going and learn to laugh....nowadays most shows have a few racial jokes here and there...about blacks, whites, hispanics and asians...but we've learn to laugh at ourselves and keep it moving...

  • You have never heard of All In The Family? the Blacks are coming & worse was said on thast show. The writers new exactly what a Puerto Rican was. As did Redd Foxx (Fred), Demond Wilson (Lamont) & the cat that played Julio.
