Read the above explanation I gave to another user. H is Highway mode, C is City, X/K/Ka are the different radar bands. Laser uses the signal meter flashing to indicate.
@compmanio36 alright. thanks a lot. but can you explain what kind of laser does the X comes from and what kind does the K/KA come from. for example maybe X comes from weak laser signals from a remote and K/KA comes from a speed laser. Am i making any sense? lol.
@ChangMasterSupreme X/K/Ka are not laser, they are radar....different bands of radio waves. That's why it is easy to pick up, you get the radio waves that bounce off other cars. Laser is just laser. Directional and you pretty much will be getting a ticket if you get popped with laser, unless you are very lucky.
Could you do me a favor. I just got this RDetector and have no idea how to work it or what the icons mean all I know is that the C is for city and the H is for Highway and more help in the explanation would be great. Thanks
Well, if you keep it on H and leave it like that, it will pick up everything and anything, and sound the alert constantly. The city button will switch between the H(ighway) mode (everything picked up), C(ity) mode (everything picked up, but the alerts are more silent), C1 (X band is less sensitive and quieter than K/Ka/Laser), and C2 (X band completely disabled).
Quiet button on the H mode will cause the alert to sound for a couple seconds, then switch to quieter beeps....obviously the beep/alerts increase in intensity as the signal gets stronger. When an alert is sounding, you can press the quiet button to mute it, and then for 10 minutes or so, the RD will only beep upon picking up a new signal or a big increase in signal strength. Good for an area you know is full of false alarms. Let me know if you have more Q's.
Works pretty good, it's nothing fancy, but it detects all the kinds of radar/laser used here in the States, and gives you quite a bit of warning before you come upon the cop running radar. It's saved me from a ticket several times now....for $50 @ Walmart, not a bad deal.
VG2/Laser...you can't have VG2 detection and Laser detection on at the same time; if the V/L is lit, you have VG2 detection on, hence no laser. I keep it off, as VG2 is a radar detector detector, used in places like Virginia where it is illegal to own a RD, but it's not here, so I don't have to worry about it, hence I get laser alerts if a cop is using laser. Haven't picked it up yet, but pick up K and KA band plenty.
V/L Is an alert for either laser or vg1 or vg2. In the 6 months that I used this detector it never alerted to this type of threat. The police here don't use laser often or vg2 period though so it never missed any alerts in this regard. This is a fine detector for the price and I'd recommend it to anyone without hesitation. I'm currently using a Whistler XTR-695. I have the XTR-105 and the Whistler 1732 DE detectors as back ups if something happens to my xtr-695.
i have one of these but i dont even know what the symbols mean. anyone wanna tell me what they mean?
