Beautiful pictures of a fantastic evening, I too loved every minute of it, it was a privilege to be there and see them for a second time, last time round being at the Apollo back in the 90's, which was also an amazing gig. I have some vids uploaded from the night too if you're interested. Mine were taken on a Lumix TZ8. Cheers for the upload :)
can anyone tell me what the first "keyboard / piano / slower" track they played was called? were they sat down and played (keyboard) i was there and really wanna hear it again! thanks
@ashleymulla If it was the first piece it was marmontel riding on a clef fromn the island of fay cd. second piece was death in the shadow (same cd) 3. logos 2011 ( from cupdisk gate of saturn) 4. culpa levis from booster 1v 5. living in eternity from the angel of the est window 6 calumet ( not yet released) 7 cycle of entity from island of fay 8 ayumi's butterflies summer in nagasaki 9 sally's garden from rocking out the bats 10 darkness veiling the night from island of fay
I was in the stalls and sound was peculiar to say the least! The bass rumble during Long Island Sunset was particularly bad. Great concert though. Iris is a very welcome addition but I agree with many here that the reworking of many of their earlier hits shows real lack of ambition. For me though, Froese Franke Haslinger has to be the best line up! Thankfully I wasnt spotted videoing with my iphone!

Nice stills sequence. In my very personal opinion -not only I quit following the band during the mid 90's - but also am not too fond of the direction they took since then and specially the type of percussive base they use in their new versions of old classics like this, much closer to hip-hop than the sequential nature of the music they've been regarded as icons for, for so many years and that so many recent names manage so well as Airsculpture or Redshift for old TD fans :)
Sounds good, thanks for sharing. How was the sound in the first set from where you were sitting? Down the front it was distorted, murky and too bassy not to mention difficult to pick out the violin, flute and guitar! 2nd set and encores much better sound quality though I thought. I spoke to the sound guys at the interval to see if things could be improved. Check out my up close video of Edgar's guitar solo on my profile page...
@tangfanirl The sound, as you say was less than perfect. Lots of background interference and distortion. I still maintain these were studio tracks and they were playing along to them. The percusssion was a case in question as the drum rythyms were not those being played! But still an enjoyable night. Lucky you didn't get clocked with the video. I was stopped afetr just 40 seconds of the show starting!
Well, it's certainly better than the Melrose or Jerome years, and I know a lot of people think I'm stuck in the past, but when Chris Franke left, that was the end of TD for me.
@zenmachinefilms I agree and go even farther in the past.I believe my interest in TD diminshed greatly during mid 80's and early 90's though I think they did make very good pieces every now and then, regarding soundtracks as well as studio albums.
@goblindigital2 Thanks for viewing, honestly I was a bit disappointed with the stills quality but it does capture the moments of this great performance and I can relive the event whenever I want to immerse in this great sound!
@LeeBakerLegion I agree, I also think the fact that they were playing/improvising to studio tracks spoiled the performance a little but it was still great music from this band.
@bealach Thanks, yes it was a struggle to get good pictures. Some dynamic shots do help to convey they tempo of some of the performances. Yes TD are much under rated as a performing band and of course all the film scores that Edgar Froese wrote are great pieces of work in their own right. Thanks for viewing
Loved the concert and great photo's in the slideshow....I know how difficult low light conditions can be for such a subject so well done for getting these images...you have done very well.
A tremendous concert...wish they were still in the UK as I would go and see them again.
@N0Limbo Yes this band has seen dozens of line up changes from 1967. They go through various musical phases, the one they are in now suits my ears. It's a pity they wouldn't allow video as it would have been a little more forgiving on the motion of the performers arms etc. I could at best only get 1/30 @f5.6 at iso1600 sometimes i was at 1/10 second - ok the camera is still but the performers were moving. Still I captured the atmosphere and have the whole audio!
Good stuff Graham. We were considering going but the ticket cost was a little off putting..... still, its not every "year" you get the chance to see TD live i suppose.
Somewhat amusing to see them using soft synths and have them showing on the TV screens ! spose it saves on haulage expense not having to lug the Modular's around.... hell of a lot more more reliable too ;-)
Some pretty decent shots there... admirable given the conditions !
@mrrandom177 Thanks, its years since i went to a live show. with all the videos on YT i just assumed it was ok to video. I guess it varies from venue to venue. I wish the lighting guys would put some front spots on now and again to get some good lighting. All the atmosheric blues and reds are the most challenging for our cameras. There were people spending upto £100 on cds at the mechantising stall, still you can only get TD online sales now. Edgar is looking old and a little slow now!
Is that an Arturia Moog Modular V I can see on the right hand Monitor at the back? that's a good endorsement if ever there was one

logos my favorite. :)

The ultimate line up for most TD fans is Froese, Franke and Schmoelling/ Baumann , some of their best works were from that period.

A cracking Gig I agree with reworkings of Exit & Logos plus a corker of a new track called Cycle of Eternity from The Island of the Day Album. Superb!
The girl on Violin was Hoshiko Yamane by the way...
Nicely put together shots :-)
Cheers
