If the existing chamber will collapse, there could be another explosion that would have enough of radioactivity to kill the whole Europe, because the reactor still contains nuclear stuff
@USAF96 This is the case with all countries with Nuclear power stations. It's just not advertised that much. Technically you are weaker with Nuclear power stations and stronger with Nuclear weapons... But several nuclear weapons hitting several nuclear reactors and the whole world will have issues......
@Convict147 it could of destroyed europe and most of Russia while it was on fire. Now the Radioactive materials have degraded but it's still harmful. Could not destroy europe now but maybe a fair chunk of Russia if it was deliberately attacked
@Convict147 There wouldn't be any explosion, since all radioactive material has cooled into a solid state in the last 25 years. A collapse would release deadly ammounts of radiation into Europe's atmosphere and part of Russia's atmosphere. There have been small reports of major releases of radiation into the sarcophagus's atmosphere. But such water leaking into the sarcophagus has cooled down the internal Uranium 235, or Plutonium core
The basic RBMK design was flawed and that coupled with the atmosphere of secrecy and performance pressure on the Soviet system caused this incident. RBMK reactors (Chernobyl-type) remain operational in different countries to this day. Scary, huh?
Finland has poured millions to russian RBMK type nuclear power plant modernisation and security systems. At least ones near my country are quite safe nowdays.

those basters still want to use this THING. I say cover it over with a mountian of concrete. just put in place a conveyor belt and cover it with concrete run the systen 24/7 365 for five years and bore holes under it filled with concrete> BUT NO WE NEED TO KEEP THE PLACE RUNNING. good i hope it happens again. "sad so sad"
i fucking agree. sept i hope it doesn't happen again. but seriously. cover the godamn thing up. never wana c it again. these stupid fucks want to do it all over. they dont seem to understand that its still dangerous to work around tht shit. cover it with fucking concrete. hell u could cover it with the ashes of all those killed bc of the first explosion. sry thts so graffic and seems heartless. but its true. C'mon guys. get a fucking grip.

those fucking dumbasses are trying to fix it up to reuse it? that just makes me wanna say WHY? WHY? i mean, thousands of people (unknown death toll) died for this, and theyre just plainly insulting their efforts by making it work again. this place had a fucking HISTORY of fuck ups.
Podczas eksplozji reaktora, wszystkie sciany zostały poprzesuwane i poprzewracane i zostały w tych pozycjach. Po pewnym czasie wszystko się zaczęło obsuwać. Jeśli te wszystkie ściany zmieniłyby znowu swoje pozycje, to sarkofag, którego konstrukcja opiera się po części na elementach starego bloku 4, zawaliłby się wyzwalając ogromne ilości radioaktywnego pyłu.

Yeah. The Finish, unlike the Soviets, are wise enough not to disable all the safety measures on their reactor before a test.
That's exactly what the Soviets did at Chernobyl.
In essence, *everything* that could go wrong went wrong at Chernobyl.

How do you fuckers managed to breathe i never know!
They arent trying to make the plant operational again, they are trying to seal the radiation by making a new sarcophegus.
