Thats is a hard ass hit right there. :54 you can see Sadler was going to go low to miss him but when he saw Fike lift the brake and start to roll down the banking Hermie cranked it back to the top.

Fike was starting to drive down the track, and Hermie (who was slowing down) must have gotten confused as to what he was doing and ran out of time to react. Just a racin' deal!

What evidence do you have that he wasnt slowing down? My "evidence" is clear in the 2nd replay that the car was slowing. Still moving pretty fast, but clearly slowing. Remember that 3400 lb. stock cars dont stop instantaniously when the brakes are applied.

probably a combination between him running his best line on the track, and miscommunication with his spotter. Its hard to say for sure, but its obvious that he wouldn't intentionally do that.

He was slowing down. he was on the outside of a bunch of cars that were also slowing and maybe since he couldn't see the crash he had to go wide to avoid rear ending the cars he was following. On top of that if he hit the brakes that also would push him up high.

He got -3 because its obvious the guy was not going full speed. This was a racing accident, and it happens. Even if you have a spotter, communication devices fail, and fail often.
