  • I love the liberties she chose to take in this! absolutely gorgeous!

  • Great quality recording and I think she has a very charming voice for this role. I just can't understand why with such a light, agile sounding voice her scales are almost as choppy as a Rossinian mezzo-soprano. Except for the coloratura passage work her sound is absolutely dreamy and, as usual, the high note is well executed..

  • traduc svp

  • Who are the two men? I absolutely recognize their voices, but can't place them.

  • Today I read that Dessay will be singing Elvira at the Met in a few years. Has anyone else heard this?

  • that's GREAT!!!!!! WoW!

  • i like this a lot! but you should all check out joan sutherlands i puritani!!!!! shes amazing!

  • I love this recording! I wish that she had recorded "Son Vergin Vezzosa".

  • She is amazing, but her voice doesn't thrills me.

    But really brava :)

  • Schitterende zangeres, ga volgende week kijken naar haar opera "La sonnambula" in kinepolis. Live uit het MET in New York

  • Puro bel canto.

  • not quite, her legato isn't that good. But it is fine, yes.

  • People like you cannot fully enjoy music because you always need to correct everything instead of closing your eyes en just feel the music.

  • I thought that was lovely. I hadn't known she'd ever done Elvira, but her power and control and delicacy and vocal beauty make her an ideal match for the role.

  • Voce piccola, piana, poco espressiva.

SUBLIME

  • She is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

  • No kidding. This is why I love Dessay!

  • no the agreement. the voice is reduced to its simpler expression. Where are Anderson, Devia, Callas, Aliberti, Sutherland, Scotto. Ok if one forgets all these last = Dessay is well, even very well.

  • what is the section that begins at 4:30....I love this part and it kills me that most sopranos omitt this part. Why is that?

  • It's my favorite part as well!

  • It's a lovely ending :) I have no idea why some omit it...must be one of the most fantastic endings ever composed! (at least opera-wise...)

  • I find it interesting that you say at least opera-wise. what's better than operatic endings!!!!

  • Movie and book endings are a whole other ballpark!

But you're right...other endings don't really come close to this one opera or other! And Dessay sings it best :)

  • The high note at the end is amazing! I love her.

  • I miss the absolute ease with which she used to sing everything. She's struggling too much with the music for my taste, and her vibrato is too loose. The middle is is still beautiful, though.

  • way too slow at times, especially the very end orchestral part. dessay's voice has gone through considerable decline, as it's overdone and nasaly (in an almost throaty way) now, and it was once soooo beautiful. i think at one point this would have been great repertoire, but now it isn't at all. sad, but true, because i'm a huge dessay fan, just not of her voice now. i'm a fan of what was... kind of like the callas fans who were at the '64 tosca at covent garden. you're there for what was, not is

  • Her voice is less high-pithched and not as powerful as she was. However all professionals agree to say her voice is more colourful, more lyrical. I understand you miss the queen of coloratura she was, but I think you can't say her voice is less beautiful.

  • I agree. I love her newfound passion for bel canto repitoire. It really shows a new, passionate side of her. Personally, I LOVE her then AND now. Though her voice has changed, it's an interesting change and I don't think or a second she's a "what was" Callas. If anything, she's a "what's now and awesome" diva! I agree it's a little slow in some parts, but Sumi Jo goes even slower!

  • @JuillHope17 Okay. There is space for you being a fan of what was. Personally I liked what was, but for me it was very little compared to what is. What was never brings me to tears. What is does sometimes.

  • The best part she does the best is the part with the quick coloratura.

  • I mean the part she does the best is the quick colorature.

  • She does it VERY well, French or not. She is one of our greatest operatic singer!!

  • Not my favorite Elvira, but she can certainly sing it. Her voice is just too French sounding to do this...or maybe French isn't the word I'm looking for. Anyway, I prefer others but she does well here.

  • OMG!!!! I have been waiting years for her to sing this!!!! Bring on Rossini and more Donizetti: Semiramide, Norina and Rosina for starters!

Lol :P

  • Merci bcp!
