OMG WHY?!?! This looks so much better, why take so much out. I feel like I would have enjoyed the game so much better if they had just let it be and released this instead.
I dont get it, everything in this video's covered in the final game as far as i can remember. I don't see anything that I haven't seen before in the game...
OMG I cant beleve this shit. First C&C 4 and now this. Im done with EA, Im never going to buy any game from them. Maybe it is cruel against the developers, but it is the only way to destroy EA, so they wont bring down other game series.
Im also very interested, if there is beta version somewhere. Going to search right away.
@RashekeeG1 Betas are always better then the finished products, but Beta's never get released. Most betas after being cut, are scrapped, and never mentioned again, sadly.
Ive never understood how game developers and what not keep making the same mistakes. If they would have had all of this in the game, or even redo the game to fallow the beta I am absolutely sure they could make just as much if not twice as much as they did with Madness Returns. Taking out all the bad ass shit of a game just to release it on time means your releasing a less amazing version of what I personally would spend 100 dollars to play. It's like their shooting themselves in the foot here.
Yeah after watching this and reading the art book it's rather depressing how much had to be left out because of time.
Pretty much the only flaw with this game is the repetitive gameplay, and they had really nice ideas to add more depth into the worlds and the story... it's a shame everything EA wanted was just the money (how ironic, considering the poor marketing the game had).
Yep, not only EA were complete hypocrites but they also can't take responsibility for their own actions while they blame the consumers for the lack of sales.
I think the "Alice what have you done" quote fits better with her being wanted for murder. That way they could have toyed with the idea that maybe she did do it.
Para los que hablan español, dijo macgee que no agrego el material beta por trabajar en consolas caseras (xbox 360 y ps3), dijo que no volvera a trabajar en eso por que le quito mucho tiempo
It's a sad thing they took the White Rabbit out of actual gameplay and put him into the mini-games. That was unfair. And frankly, I would have preferred the whole 'wrongly-accused-for-murder' setting for Alice rather than being taken into an orphanage under a pedophile's care.
And of course, save for a few things that need polishing (I know this is the beta), lots of things in this trailer would've made the game quite the experience. Not that it isn't in its current version, but it lacks.
This looks awesome! I love AMR but honest the platforming was pretty redundant :/ Therefore the things like 0:47 where Alice is swimming and 1:07-1:12 that was a twist that never happened in the game would've made it so much more fun because of the diversity. And 1:19 - 1:21! that looks so thrilling! I'm so disappointed right now because I only just found out about this beta version. -sigh- They better make a third game and put all of this in <333
in the beta version london was suppose to be a level because when nurse pris starts to turn in the jaberwockee instead of alice going straight into wonderland she was suppose to push nurse pris off the roof therefore her having the london police chase her on the rooftops where they show her fall and in turn fall into wonderland
The actual explanation as too what happened too her family as a tad dark. Im just on the dollmaker and im struggling too defeat him. The graphics on this game are stunning, although after a while the gameplay can get a bit repetitive.
Of course which is when she goes to Radcliffe to retrieve Connor's report and the Rabbit which is where Bumby murders Radcliffe to set up Alice to make it look like Alice got pissed off and killed Radcliffe out of rage (well maybe they originally have Alice find already Radcliffe dead when she get's into his office).
@dessan18 That's such a negative thing to say, not everyone is interested in your money. Some people are passionate about making games and I'm sure there are plenty of other people passionate about other things. So are you happy about the finished product that was completely ruined by EA because they gave it a projected release date, they cut so much content such as other weapons, swimming and lot's of the story.
@Frostfeera One of humanity's many sins is greed. It's in our nature. Things not allways go the way we planned them. Technical issues, time contraints, unpolished sections in games are not uncommon for me. There are a million things in this world that one can have and a million that a person cannot have. We either deal with it or we suffer. I'm still happy with the game I could play. Sadly I don't think there will be a sequal since the game sold very poorly.
@Frostfeera But I do. It's no use denying it. Money has allways been and will allways be the root of everything. Don't attempt to embarass me by wanting to change my opinion on the game. And why would you argue with someone who isn't your enemy
Dude! This looks so much cooler than the final products--especially the real world running from cops and being in the actual house the murders took place in. So daring and edgy!
I think they were originally planning to have Bumby much, much worse which he could have have been serial killer killing everyone Alice knows (Priss Witless, Radcliffe, maybe even Nan Sharpe) for some unknown reason (probably Bumby was trying to incarcerate Alice back into the Asylum permanently by setting up murderers to make it look like Alice did it since Alice is going against his wishes of turning her into a prostitute.)
@zonilo1 So amazing! It would have been bone chilling! They should remake it WITH all the grit. Not a spec of it removed what you described and what's in the video is what would have been a more fitting sequal.
Well it's only a speculation but it's the most logical thing I can come up with of what's going on here, of course it also fits what Bumby said in the Asylum section at the waiting room where he had given Alice a false dilemma which "either the train or back to Rutledge" which I thought it might fit with my theory with Bumby originally being a serial killer trying to put Alice back into the Asylum by murdering the few remaining people that Alice knows.
Just by knowing that Alice failed to collect the pills from high street chemist like he instructed her to which might originally made Bumby to become paranoid and fears to face retaliation from Alice (which he knew Alice is going to find out one way or another what really happened) so he tries to put Alice back into the Asylum by murdering all those people Alice knows just to get rid of her. Just my theory what they might have originally planned for the story.
Of course Bumby would have been more clever exploiting Alice's history being a crazy lunatic in the Asylum and murdering all those people (Priss Witless, Nan Sharpe, Radcliffe) would have made her look like she has gone mad again and now a murderous lunatic "in the search of her stuffed rabbit and what happened during the night of the fire despite ow" (as if Bumby is manipulating her hence the Puppet strings in his Dollmaker form) on the loose who needs to be put down accordingly.
Of course the Puppet Strings symbolizing Alice being manipulated and being set up while she trying to find the "truth" and her stuffed rabbit which leads Alice into those murder scenes and with her being there at the wrong place in the wrong time, Alice is now framed faces danger of being put back into the Asylum again (especially after the third or second murder).
they should've left in the running away parts so there'd be more interaction in the london scenes, and at least some of the swimming parts, which would just be cool :D other than that, it's still a good game
Damn you EA! This is actually would of made the game a hit D:! It had some action scenes like running away, swimming and more blood. GARG! The final version is good but it feels repetitive at time ._.
@PaintedAsh Agreed, If they ever do rerelease the game, (which they probably wont) i hope they dont change her london look. The beta look just looks to...clean i suppose.
What's really amazing about the discussion here is that, really great games, take time, Alice Madness Returns is a great game, but it felt really incomplete compared to the first one, yeah they used an existing engine, but if you put attention to details, you can see the game is rushed towards the end, going from a really long Ch 1, to fast and short Ch 5 and 6.
So yeah.. be it EA's fault or SH's the game is great but deff. could be better
I can honestly say that when I look at this Beta demonstration, I feel really, really, REALLY cheated on some VERY good stuff... Farking EA, they should have a Vorpal Blade shoved up where the jabberwock never whiffles for forcing McGee to give us the watered down version that we got... *rises a bottle of Drink Me* Here's to the hopes of a sequel and/or some greatly compensatory DLC. Cheers.
I'm afraid they won't. See, if memory serves, that was part of the main plot where Alice pushes Pris Witless off of a rooftop after she turns into the Jabberwocky.
The entire scene was completely cut due to time constraints. I'm more upset about the weapon restrictions... Only 4 weapons? Not including the Bomb and Umbrella as weapons... That's pretty weak.
i love the game actually but i really i really want to kill PRIS, WE WANT THE WHIP, SWIN INSTEAD OF WALKING UNDERWATER, THW WHITE RABBIT, SUPER FAST ALICE AND ALL OF THAT......but actually the face of this alice is way better than the one of the BETA
Instead of blaming EA for having this game rushed out, you could be thankful that a big publisher like EA was willing to take a risk and give a decade old IP a 2nd chance. You wont find activision doing shit like that. Madness Returns turned out amazing int hen end, im sure all these bits wouldve made it even more amazing, but the final game was 15 hours long so you cant really blame them cutting stuff
@an1m4l Sure you can. It's possible that some of the stuff in this section were taken out and replaced with stuff that's already in the game. For example instead of the swimming section (which could have just been PART of level 2), they replaced it with more walking around under water. The London parts could have been cut, and then another part extended to make up for it. There's no reason to believe that these were cut from the game, but nothing else is different.
Were it not for EA, there would be no Alice: Madness Returns. Instead of thanking them for giving Spicy Hoards the opportunity to develope the sequel to a 10 year old game that didnt sell too well, you are cursing at them for not giving them unlimited ressources and time. They gave them huge amounts of money and gave them a certain amount of time to develope the game. Spicy Horse agreed. EA knew this wouldnt be a bestseller, yet they gave SH the money to make it.
1.They definetely didn't give them huge amounts of money.You're clueless.Sorry.
2.Wow, really.The only reason EA were the publisher was because McGee had worked with them in the past and he thought he'd do it again.Little did he know what a gigantic mistake he was making.
3.EA gave no support to SH and is now giving no support at ALL to players.
Good to know you stand behind a company that treats both their developers and customers like shit.
1. Obviously you have absolutley no idea how much it costs to produce such a relatively big game. Just to produce all the DVDs, BRs and packaging costs millions, let alone the millions it costs to develop the game at all.
2. Yes, that is my point. They worked together in the past and McGee's games bombed. Not always quality-wise, but they never sold too well. Even Alice, which was regarded a success, didnt get into true Blockbuster-territory
Go find a dictionary and learn what "support" means.
It's far from just referring to the money, kiddo.
Don't talk about things you haven't got the slightest clue about.
Do you have any idea how much content was cut and how much the game had to be rushed because of EA giving SH too little funds?
Do you even know that EA NEVER helps their developers at all? Just whines and stalks them and makes them rush as much as possible, because they want to stuff their fat faces with money faster?
3. Yes, other than the millions of dollars it took to produce the game, they didnt give any support. These greedy basterds. An on top of that they even included a free HD-copy of the first game! HOW DARE THEY?!
They gave SH more than 2 years to develope the game, which is way more than what most other developers get (or take). If more than 2 years arent enough to develop a game (without having to develop a graphic engine, as they used Unreal Engine 3) , then SH did something wrong, not EA.
@UshiromiyaReiji Isnt that sweet :) "Kiddo", as you said so nice, i've been working in the gaming industry for 4 years now. Namecalling wont get me mad, wont make you right, it will just make you look like a jackass ;) If you have an existing graphic engine, an existing universe, existing characters and existing gameplay mechanics allready established in the predecssor then yes, 2 years are more than enough. Most EA franchises and CoD games get 8 months - 1 year.
Most EA Franchises and Call of Duty get 8 months - 1 year, because (most of) the games are absolutely terrible and consist of rehashing 99 percent of the previous game's content.
Just because Spicy Horse used an existing engine doesn't mean they had to complete the game in two years.
You've got no idea, but just a tip: Most developers start off without their own engine, boyo.
If they're successful, they develop an engine of their own, until then, they use another company's.
"Oh, I have two jobs and am 23!" Oh, I work in the gaming industry, you faggot!" "Oh, I'm part of company X!"
No, there isn't, boyo.
I own the 360 version of the game as well.
You do indeed get the first game, however, other than native gamepad support, there are absolutely no differences. (excluding a virtually unnoticeable palette swap on Alice's hair and very few other things.)That's it.
@UshiromiyaReiji You do know what "optimized for HDTVs" means, right? It means its been optimized for HDTVs. The resolution has been upped. Thats all i said.
Because EA are capitalists and all they care about is the money (therefore themselves which the entire system is individualist based and leads to selfishness) and just use and exploited SH to make this game for them just to make a extra buck because they own the copyrights to the series. I think this is the reality of the situation.If Mcgee/SH bought the rights to Alice, then we would have gotten a much better game because there would be no publishers pushing them.
He and his team wouldn't be pressured constantly, forced to cut out huge chunks of the game and given no support.He would have been able to make the game just like he wanted to.(And if you've read exactly how much bigger it would have been and exactly how much content they had to cut, you'll know exactly what I mean.)
However, he'd have had to pay an exorbitant sum of money. (We're talking about EA, after all.)
Spicy Horse couldn't afford to do that - they're a small company..
It's actually much worse to realize that it was EA's decision to make a sequel (since they own the copyrights which they can do whatever the fuck they want with it and no one else will) and they pushed deadlines on the developers which is clearly evidence of exploitation. Which is almost like saying "I want you to make this painting for me and I want this certain amount of time to have it completed" and once your finished, they ditch you and use it for their personal gain.
Alice: Madness Returns is a fantastic game, period.
Oh boohoo, you don't get to play an underwater swimming level. It's folks like you that ruin games, not EA. Buzz off. Don't piss on EA or Spicy Horse for cutting out shitty game design and making a better product.
@tomimn2233 In the previous game, she could swimming also too. The game after 10 years is much better, but this, I thought also this gameplay but too bad!!!!
OMG WHY?!?! This looks so much better, why take so much out. I feel like I would have enjoyed the game so much better if they had just let it be and released this instead.

So the story of Witless getting killed by Alice is cut out of the final decision of the game? Or is this version coming out soon?
ArticDemon24 7 months ago
it sucks how much shit was cut out and they didnt have time to put in this. it would have been so much better!
Kellough 7 months ago
Instead of blaming EA for having this game rushed out, you could be thankful that a big publisher like EA was willing to take a risk and give a decade old IP a 2nd chance. You wont find activision doing shit like that. Madness Returns turned out amazing int hen end, im sure all these bits wouldve made it even more amazing, but the final game was 15 hours long so you cant really blame them cutting stuff
an1m4l 7 months ago
@an1m4l Sure you can. It's possible that some of the stuff in this section were taken out and replaced with stuff that's already in the game. For example instead of the swimming section (which could have just been PART of level 2), they replaced it with more walking around under water. The London parts could have been cut, and then another part extended to make up for it. There's no reason to believe that these were cut from the game, but nothing else is different.
baixiaolang 5 months ago
so much stuff that was not in the game xD

what?! longer London gameplay, changing costume, swimming?!
god damn you released version!
not that it's bad, but this....Oh what could've been!
tomimn2233 8 months ago 5
@tomimn2233
Damn EA, not the released version.
EA and their idiocy.
They rushed McGee's team because of their laughably dumb time restriction, so they couldn't do everything they wanted to with the title.
You can't blame Spicy Horse, blame EA for being complete retards, hampering development and ruining franchises.
UshiromiyaReiji 8 months ago 56
@UshiromiyaReiji
100% agree....Fuck! many of the removed parts seem so cool :/
chreace 8 months ago
@chreace
Yes, agreed.
If you can get your hands on the artbook, you'll see just how many content we COULD have seen, were it not for EA.
UshiromiyaReiji 8 months ago 29
@UshiromiyaReiji
Keynwar 7 months ago
@Keynwar
Yes, I am, and with reason, boyo.
UshiromiyaReiji 7 months ago
@UshiromiyaReiji
Keynwar 7 months ago
@Keynwar
UshiromiyaReiji 7 months ago
Keynwar 7 months ago
@Keynwar
Wow, that is some powerful stupidity right there.
And did you just say two years is a long enough development cycle for any game?
Wow.
Too bad mostly every single good game ever made has had a longer development window, boyo.
The only games that come out every one or two years are, surprise! - Games from franchises EA shat on or is milking and Call of Duty games.
You're clueless, as I said.
And there's no such thing as an HD version of the first game.
UshiromiyaReiji 7 months ago
@UshiromiyaReiji Isnt that sweet :) "Kiddo", as you said so nice, i've been working in the gaming industry for 4 years now. Namecalling wont get me mad, wont make you right, it will just make you look like a jackass ;) If you have an existing graphic engine, an existing universe, existing characters and existing gameplay mechanics allready established in the predecssor then yes, 2 years are more than enough. Most EA franchises and CoD games get 8 months - 1 year.
Keynwar 7 months ago
@Keynwar
UshiromiyaReiji 7 months ago
Also, there is a free Version of the first game optimized for HDTVs packed into the console versions of the game.
Keynwar 7 months ago
@Keynwar
Haha, I love kids like you, mate.
Insecure enough to not even believe yourself.
UshiromiyaReiji 7 months ago
@UshiromiyaReiji You do know what "optimized for HDTVs" means, right? It means its been optimized for HDTVs. The resolution has been upped. Thats all i said.

That's what you said, kiddo.
And no, the resolution hasn't been upped, really.
UshiromiyaReiji 7 months ago
@UshiromiyaReiji
Because EA are capitalists and all they care about is the money (therefore themselves which the entire system is individualist based and leads to selfishness) and just use and exploited SH to make this game for them just to make a extra buck because they own the copyrights to the series. I think this is the reality of the situation.If Mcgee/SH bought the rights to Alice, then we would have gotten a much better game because there would be no publishers pushing them.
zonilo1 5 months ago 2
@zonilo1
Correct.

@Keynwar

Buzz off. Don't piss on EA or Spicy Horse for cutting out shitty game design and making a better product.

omg, that sucks :( I HATE that about publishers! it's like the same thing with Tomb Raider's Eidos publishers :(
I wonder if they'll release a DLC for this game that will have all the stuff that they couldn't originally add in.
