(: Just thought I'd contribute, haha!

  • where can i buy this video?

  • The best christmas song ever..

  • Ah - the time when there was a tune and people were talented enough to actually sing instead of just talk a "song" in gobbledygook ("rap music").

  • @Cyberacc: Just because it doesn't do anything for you does not mean it is without merit. There are a lot of very talented people working in rap, especially in the earlier days, and it speaks to a lot of people.

  • this song is amazing

  • Sorry to jump in here.. yeah this is a great song, I do love it and all; but just wanted to ask you guys- is that person performing in the beginning (after which I think is Paul McCartney) with sort of reddish kind of hair and sort of mascara make-up Boy George.. or someone else?

  • that is Paul YOung that starts out the song (not paul mcartney) and yes that is Boy George right after him.. then its george michel.. Simon le Bon (from Duran Duran..) lol and so on :D

  • @judgesdaughter

Thanx, that helped me to sort out the characters.. what a great song isn't it?

  • Paul Young was the first singer and yes Boy george was the one with a reddish/orange hair..

  • @VirtualDude67 1st guy is Paul Young then Boy George, yes

  • Thats the unique thing about festive songs.. they are solely for the festive period. Weird listening to this outside the Christmas season

  • i love the drums at the begining

  • hahah perfect song!

  • sting is freaking hot and stoned... sexy!

  • Ironically most Ethiopians are Orthodox Christians and celebrate Christmas in January. So for them it really wasn't Christmas.

  • @antonc81Only Orthox christians who use the old calender celebrate christmas on the 7th of January! Most Orthodox christians use the new calender and celebrate christmas on the 25th December!

  • @mertonparka I was specifically speaking of Ethiopians (to whom this song is largely addressed). It isn't the individual Christians, but the calendar of the church to which they belong that decides when religious feasts are celebrated. The Russian Orthodox Calendar, for example, is based on the Julian calendar and all Russian Orthodox Christians celebrate it on Jan 7th. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church uses the Ethiopic Calendar (with 13 months), in which Xmas is celebrated on what we call 7th Jan.

  • this in English means

  • @xxxdids

...that's so true the few changes over the last 25 years and good intentions aren't good enough. Today we celebrate water global day and the people is more limited.

  • i think when this video was shot Duran Duran might have been the biggest band in the world,or it would be bloody close lol.

  • Einfach nur geil....

  • This is one of the best songs ever. I am not that old but love the 80s. ROCK ON

  • Tons of talent that came together for the cause. Very rare that we will see this much talent together ever again. This is talent not the crap they have today.

  • I am 40 and love music from 50-60-7-80's but would have no idea who half these people are.

The American live aid had far more talant in it..Who do you really have here ,Paul young and Phil Collins

  • Excuse, me... who's jacko? This song brings a message of hope. I don't think that saying those things is a good idea.

Congratulations to BAND AID. This song seems completely new... timeless! Great!

  • Love this video- love Geldof (he was in the Wall- he's cool for that alone)

Also @loudnm- I agree. I lol every time Stings sings that line.

  • love the hair :)

  • The first, the one , and the best of the feed the world videos. Now Haiti beckons, and pleads. The world will respond in flying colors, thanks to Bob Geldoff, and his huge discovery of a drought ridden Afrika in the 80's. He started the musical aid videos. He is a true saint in Human History. The American vid ( We Are the World), is lavish, and great in its own right with tons of icons, but this is somehow better, as is all originals. Thank you Bob Geldoff for your spirit and generosity.

  • got a custom ringtone 0:00-0:02 on tub e2tone{.]com

FYI: Jesus is in the Q'ran... Not everyone on the planet believes in Jesus, but followers of Islamic Religion do.

  • @maiacaemmerer they dont believe in him as a messiah, they believe in him as a prophet. As do jews.

  • hilarious that the closeup is of Sting singing "...the bitter sting of tears ..." 1:19

And Bono can barely contain himself stuck singing with Sting and Le Bon - until he get's his solo ...

    THANKS for posting!!

  • who is the girl with red hair?

  • hats guy called Boy george haha

  • nunhat jemand lust zu schreibn oder pic tausch mir ist soo langweilig

  • This song is so much better than We Are The World, the American response to the African Famine. There is just something more simple and organic about it. To me, We Are The World has more of a fabricated feel to it.

  • @howen77 i agree

  • Tears for fears slowed down sample from their song "The Hurting" in the introduction.

  • fuck off you cunt your dancing is just as bad...dont hope to take it anywhere

  • dont watch the video or comment if you dont like it

  • That's absurd! You have to watch a video before you know it sucks, which is what I did.

  • @MisterDanceMachine excuse me, i find that very offensive, i was the editing producer for this video

  • Well you shouldn't have fucking bothered.

Case in point. 0:34. Come on, seriously ...

  • dont listen to the haters... this was an awesome video. yeah and 30 years from now dance machine will be a washed up loser!

  • yeah

  • You'd like that wouldn't you?

Too bad that in 30 years I'll be bigger than Michael Jackson and you'll be begging my forgiveness...

  • @MisterDanceMacine

excuse me, michael jackson was a legend. don't you dare offence him like you will be bigger than him. do we care if your gonna be bigger than the king of pop?! no, i don't think so you moron. you better treat MJ with some true god damn respect or else just die as an idiotic whore.

  • Die like an idiotic whore?

    What, like MJ? :)

  • Oh shut up. MJ was a legend who made mistakes like we all did as us human beings. I bet MJ is watching you right now living your retarded-self life, and hes gonna send YOU to hell. MisterDanceMachine, heres a life lesson for you. STOP BEING A SYCHASTIC JACKASS!

  • what the hell is your problem??

  • I just hate this shitty song, I don't have a problem.

  • Im sure Phil collins would shit himself and be ashamed of your shit dancing to sussudio

  • This is an oldie but a goodie. A quintessential feel good song that makes you want to reach out and do something good to relieve the suffering somewhere in the world.

Funny looking at all the fashions again too.

  • 1:05 whos that?

  • Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran

  • Feeeeed immigration smugglers !!

Let them know the West is Weak !!

    Feeeeed social welfare bludgers !!

Let them scrounge off tax payers !!

  • I write this, not before watching , not after watching but whilst i watch the clip and i have to make a few points.

    1. this song has been around now for a while and it should still be making someone money !!!! so where is the money going ?

    2. My oh my how the world has changed none of the artists arose from reality shows they are all accomplished Musicians

    3. people had more heart back then due to the fact the drugs and the greed were'nt as bad as they are today

The world was sort of happy

  • so, guessing you are to young to have been around in the 70s and 80s then

  • Sorry, i was born in 65

  • @ alastair78 thats fine then dont take time off during the time, dont spend time with your family in a festive setting and just sit their being a dick twiddleing your thumbs

o yeah im not christian not even athiest i am myself

  • This is a prime example of people coming together to try and help. You are a prime example of someone who can criticize easily, but most likely does nothing to help those less fortunate. At least these artists created an amazing song and in turn an ongoing gift that still gives to Ethiopia 20 years later. Can you honestly say you have done anything to help?

  • There there ristinraccoon. Have you had your 12 O'clock? Its gotta be taken with food you know, or I hear Lexapro is great with quiet lie down, rocking in a corner.

  • ristinraccoon,

You may not be aware however this album sold in the millions around the world and proceeds went to provide food to people who otherwise would not have had any.

I have come across examples of where Christian missionaries have authoritatively pushed their philosophy on others. Still, a fair part of this song's significance for me is that an effort was made to make a difference. That difference was made and positive actions do have repercussions for the future as well.

  • I hate how Christians think everyone celebrates Christmas. I am an Atheist and want nothing to do with it.

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • @rwc20071 No

  • But this isn't about Christmas. It's about FEED[ing] THE WOOOORLD! :D

  • @FinalFirestorm Its about Christianity taking over the world.

  • @alastair: [This is in multiple parts] The entire song is meant to help raise money for the relief fund. It's about feeding the world, specifically the African nations - especially Ethiopia - affected by the famine in 1984.

  • @alastair [part 2] It was released in the "Christmas season" because that was when the problem was happening. Since then it's continued to be a favorite replayed at that time of year.

There is no other time when music is played over and over. It's not as though every year in August we play hippie music. So called "Christmas" music which is often simply about snow and winter festivities is the only genre which entire nations listen to year after year en masse.

  • @alastair: [part 3] Therefore, the "Christmas" idea of the song makes it more profitable for the relief fund than a simple "play this once and be done theme." It's not about subjecting the suffering peoples of the world to the tyranny of Christianity. It's about seeing small children eat a meal without sacrificing their lives to do so.

    [Sorry it's so long!]

  • @FinalFirestorm

Christianity is about Christianity taking over the world.

This song sucks because it is about Christianity and I hate Christians , good cause though unless they are force feeding Africans with their religion with a side serving of food..

  • While much has been done in the name of Christianity to deserve ridicule and scorn, try not to hate us. We are not all hypocrits. The world is rolling in pain, and it will never be improved by hatred. Also, this song is about people uniting to help others in need. They were trying to feed starving people, not force feed anyone any type of religion. Have a nice day.

  • @alastair: if you have any more questions as to the motives of these "Christians trying to take over the world," please refer to LoveHeartLogicHead's comment above.

  • @FinalFirestorm Leave alastair alone!! he's obviously of limited mental ability :P

  • @DestroyerWill: I'm sorry. I should have realized. Thank you for pointing this out to me
