@Sturmmann This was from a sitting position, which is a difficult position. If you can adjust so that the rifle has its natural aim at the target, it becomes a little easier. a 98 is a very good score. Considered a master score or high master. I've seen a 100 with 10x though.
there's 3-4 variations to the sitting to fit whatever body type, it really just depends on the buttstock length and how much eye relief you can get comfortably.
Thats why I pick M1s all the way instead of the black rifles
I hear you, thats exactly why I dont want to be on a military rifle team. The oldest rifles they seem to use are the M14s. In my opinion everything interesting was made 1938 and prior.
Everything went to hell with the invention of detachable magazines, rails....
Shooting the M16A2 was interesting before everyone began being issued an ACOG, some battalions are even allowing grip pods to be used in the prone during rifle qual
@Sturmmann Go on Flickyr.com, search 200 yard rapid fire the MB1Genie target is mine and there's a set on the right that has some of the other shooting stuff I put on.I think both the M-1 & M-14 were great competition guns, I preferred the M-1. I fired two bolt guns one in the Leech Cup at Cp Perry 1k yds. Bull barrel, Unertl scope 30/338 cal and the other a Mod 70 in a 200yd rapid fire. Being left handed it was a real treat, the split eyebrow from the rear sight wasn't. Prefer the "gas pipes"!
oh yea the ol M1 doesnt baby anyone. I consider it a badge of honor to end the range day with a bruised nose or a swelled up cheek
thats a well centered group, I think you have the same problem as I do. First shot can be dead center but I sometimes find myself hitting lower inside the bullseye with subsequent shots. I get my face closer to the aperture and center the post lower than usual without thinking. But I can complain about 10s, or even 9s in the standing.
Very unusual to score in the pits at Panola, usually we run at least three relays. Lots of shooters deerhunting or taking a weekends off. Usually we have three relays and more than 30 shooters, our Regional fills the range capacity for 16 targets and three relays with standbys. We have some of the biggest LEG matches outside of Perry as well. At the Service Rifle Championship at Camp Swift this year we had 100 shooters and we gave seven LEGS on Sunday.
am i the only one that things thats a helluva grouping?
thats a 12in target right?

@Sturmmann My time in the high power was with a M-14. This was before the pea shooters took over.

I shut up because I was under the impression I was talking to another Marine, that wasnt so apparently.
I will spare you my bullshit since you did your time, eventough it wasnt in the infantry field like it was with me.
We didnt have time to shooting sports, but we do qualify annually on a XTC type course

having a strong standing position is always a good trump card in a Garand or XTC match
if you dont do well enough at the 200 standing, you shouldnt even bother continuing to the 300 and 600.

Nice views of the way it's done it Texas. Never saw scoring kept in the pits, a good way to keep people honest. Krags Rule!
