  • Wow that brings back loads of memories! I used to have those Clarks shoes :p wanted them cause they had a key in the bottom..lol.

  • I loved the Magic Steps advert! So memorable and I had pair of black ones if I remember rightly that had a picture of a key underneath the shoe! All the shoes did in the magic steps range! Lol I emailed Clarks to say I loved them and they sent me a photocopy from a catalogue showing the Magic Steps shoes!!!

  • I was only 3 in 1988 and I remember the Monster Much ad and the Magic Steps. I always, always got the latest Clarkes Magic Steps shoes for school, I loved them, felt so special in them!

Oh and I just realised that big pink Monster Much monster looks like the neighbour I have now - won't be able to say hi to him again without grinning!!!

  • they should bring back the monster munch advert

  • @johnykoop do they even still make monster munch??

  • @TheAutumnAyane Yes, basically. I ate some today.

  • Was it me or did Clarks always wheel out those elaborate shoe ads toward the end of the summer holidays, just in time for the upcoming school term?

Worked a treat mind, I wore nothing but Clarks shoes in primary school!

  • Oh yes my son got a pairyou had to lift a flap in the shoe and there was a car and got a free book aswell. No it was a pic of akey if I remember it disappeared if you stepped in a puddle?

  • ah haha, remember the lot!, the girls went nuts over those shoes. but what about that lego eh lads?.... proper good memories but, oh the cheese.........

  • yeah man fucking right!! sweet

  • @weekendoff I was just thinking the same thing!

  • I was born in 1988 hehe! They look so aged... yet we're only talking 20 years ago!

  • I used to love that Clarks shoes advert when I was a kid....

  • Remember the computer game one?

  • yeah clarks hardware, the adverts are on here somewhere. you got a free badge with them. every kid in the uk had them

  • I remember when Matthew Corbett's brother Dave - who did alot of the music, especially for Sooty and Co - came into our primary school with some of his instruments and recording gear. Must have been about 1991 when that happened. Quite random, considering the school is in the middle of nowhere!

  • Ah, The Sooty Show! That brings back fond memories :)

    Magic shoes?

  • I know. That ad wouldn't particularly make sense now. But it certainly did at the time.

Sooty of course was never off TV for half a century until the decimation of CITV did for him. I *may* - the memory is indistinct at this remove - have actually seen Harry Corbett when he still sometimes did the stage show (he'd retired from the TV show before I was born): if so, I'd certainly have been among the youngest people to see him.

  • I think you mean Matthew Corbett. Harry Corbett was his dad, the original creator of Sooty and he died a long time ago, in the 70s I think. I vaguely remembered seeing Matthew Corbett in a live stage show of Sooty but I thought I had dreamed it. After reading your comment the memories came flooding back and it was real! I must have been about five years old so that would have been in 1979/1980, probably at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.

  • Pretty sure I saw Matthew do the stage show (and I *definitely* saw the dreaded Connie Creighton do it), but I think I saw Harry as well, when he was semi-retired (and mostly doing stage shows at Weymouth). Harry did not die until 1989.

  • We lived in Peterborough so only ever got Connie Creighton. Who to be fair, was very good at it.
