He has several professional books and dvd:s about it too. Aaron Spears: black groove at it's best. Peter Erskine: Just saw him live at his jazz gig. The best groove I've heard live. And there's a bunch more.

Well, thomas is obviously a monster player, but I think he is more of a session drummer that can mutate his styles to fit most any paying gigs. However, as far as the underground death metal tradition, that was not it. I dont know, something was missing that bands like crytopsy, meshuggah, cephalic carnage, and suffocation do so well. There is just so much more depth, passion, and realism with drummers who study death. IMO.

Yea, I know, you can tell Lang has the best understanding of music, arguably in creavity, but most of all in technicality, he probably could sight read from sheet music Buddy Rich's hardest solo and get it 95% right the first try. Polyrithims are like flams to him.
It's solid, he plays it well, but for the style of music it's not particular impressive. I'd love to take that song and knock it up 15 bpm and then play it at that festival right after him. That'd be fun

I mean I love Lang as a drummer, but this proves what metal drummers have known all along, its a very difficult Genre to play and here is a truly great drummer trying his hands (and feet) at it, and sucking quite badly, his blasts were weak, he over used that quad/split fill down the toms (mike Portnoy anyone?) in the middle of the song he starts a drum solo, it doesn't fit, its not playing with the music, its just masterbating over a click and guitar track.

wow just fuck the meinl cymbals who cares the drums sound fucking amazing....i wouldnt think this is a cymbal show considering the drummer himself and the drums are alot more impressive than the cymbals.
Its cool the way he uses his trademark accenting within double stroke rolls with the feet although it doesn't sound as consistent as single strokes, but then again he isn't using trigger sounds on the bassdrum (Like Derek Roddy) which is cool because you get some variation in dynamics. He has written the music for this track himself (Metal fatigue), but although he's a great drummer I don't think his songwritting-skills are that great... But he's great anyway!
You are probably right that he hasn't spent a lot of time blasting in comparison to some of the fulltime-grinders. I don't know if it's maybe the sticks. I play the Thomas Lang signature sticks myself and you can play really loud and have great control because you have such a big surface of the stick touching your hand, but they are pretty heavy so it takes some time to get consistent speed while staying "brutal".
thomas is an amazing drummer. my favourite anyway. but he will never be as good as roddy or kollias at blasting, because they spend most of their time doing blast beats. but he is a much more educated and technical drummer.
its really to you're preference, i like thomas lang's blast beat cause the snare is quieter and doesn't sound so loud and obnoxious but Derek roddy is still an awsome drummer.

Well, first off what Thomas is doing in this video (or any of his others for that matter) certainly aren't "tricks" just raw skill. Secondly, when it comes too death & black metal drummers, VERY few of them actually innovate and/or develop new ideas to play to their own music. The majority of them play exactly the same.. only aiming for speed and power. Like I said, what Thomas is doing here is taking the initiative to pioneer new ideas to apply to these type of genres.
altough thomas lang is a master of chops he won't teach tricks to someone like hellamer concerning blast beats or playing death or black metal. hellamer will play with more speed and precision and technicality in these genres.

wow just fuck the meinl cymbals who cares the drums sound fucking amazing....i wouldnt think this is a cymbal show considering the drummer himself and the drums are alot more impressive than the cymbals.

Its cool the way he uses his trademark accenting within double stroke rolls with the feet although it doesn't sound as consistent as single strokes, but then again he isn't using trigger sounds on the bassdrum (Like Derek Roddy) which is cool because you get some variation in dynamics. He has written the music for this track himself (Metal fatigue), but although he's a great drummer I don't think his songwritting-skills are that great... But he's great anyway!

You are probably right that he hasn't spent a lot of time blasting in comparison to some of the fulltime-grinders. I don't know if it's maybe the sticks. I play the Thomas Lang signature sticks myself and you can play really loud and have great control because you have such a big surface of the stick touching your hand, but they are pretty heavy so it takes some time to get consistent speed while staying "brutal".

thomas is an amazing drummer. my favourite anyway. but he will never be as good as roddy or kollias at blasting, because they spend most of their time doing blast beats. but he is a much more educated and technical drummer.

its really to you're preference, i like thomas lang's blast beat cause the snare is quieter and doesn't sound so loud and obnoxious but Derek roddy is still an awsome drummer.

The only reason Derek and Georges' snare's are louder is because they play with more power. i appreciate you're way of going against my opinion unlike some other idiots that feel the need to insult everyone in their quest to rid youtube of people that arent like them.

Well, first off what Thomas is doing in this video (or any of his others for that matter) certainly aren't "tricks" just raw skill. Secondly, when it comes too death & black metal drummers, VERY few of them actually innovate and/or develop new ideas to play to their own music. The majority of them play exactly the same.. only aiming for speed and power. Like I said, what Thomas is doing here is taking the initiative to pioneer new ideas to apply to these type of genres.

altough thomas lang is a master of chops he won't teach tricks to someone like hellamer concerning blast beats or playing death or black metal. hellamer will play with more speed and precision and technicality in these genres.
