@callofdutyisgreat1 - To fight for freedom, peace, and justice. Sometimes those are things you have to fight for. Agreed. War should always be a last resort though...
My aunt says that she doesn't really feel sorry for the soliders because they knew what they were/are getting into. And my dad is her BROTHER and is in the military for crying out loud!
Whom ever these two people are who dislike this upload, do yourself a favour and take a trip overseas to france and take a walk through battlefields and see all the Canadian graves. If you are not humbled by the amount of loss that this great country of ours endured, you take to much for granted.
The only war worth fighting is the one in preservation of liberty. Sadly, we have not fought such a war in quite a while. For the most part, these soldiers, these brave men and women are nothing more than pawns to those who move them.
Hi! I just saw Sarah live, and it was great. She played a song that I really liked, but I don't know the name of the song. It really rocked, it was a lot heavier than most of her songs...I'm sorry for the poor description, but, does anyone have any idea of which song it might be?
@alph96 Matters not what side we stand and die on as all soldiers are Brothers (and sisters) and loved by someone somewhere. Its a beautiful song and its good that it moves you so much
@GrimSqueaker1985 Agreed comrade. It matters not side we are on we all fight for what we think is right. Like we Russians. We fought to protect our homes from the german invaders and to enact revenge for the lose of so many who were killed. This song is very heart breaking but for many russian soilders after ww2 they most likely did not have many or no one to come home to be loved by as the Gremans killed them.
Love this song and the movie Passendale. I went and saw it in the theatres with my history class, and I wanted to cry at the end of the movie when Michael Dunn died, but I managed not too. Anyways, point is that I love this song and it reminds to be grateful to the people that give their lives everyday for the savety of Canada and other countries around the world
I took a "Yankee" to be inspired by the pains of my people. It took another "Yankee's" voice to express the compassion, the agony, the pain, the love to the wretched people that are mine
I love my "Yankees"
Thank you. why it took so long for me to find out about this jewel?
i can't believe that not every one in Canada saw this movie this is a great moment in Canadian history, those who haven't should be ashamed, and don't deserve this great land.
everytime i listen to this song i almost cry my heart goes out to all who have lost relatives in the wars and i send out courage to all canadians and americans across the seas

This is tough to listen to, I'm 21 and preparing for my first tour. I also have a wonderful wife and a 19 month old son. Im currently home and this is my first time home and seeing them in 7 months, about to head back out to Wainwright, AB until Christmas now. My son may look up at me one day and call me his hero, without ever knowing that all along, he's my hero.
God Bless All my brothers and sister in the Armed Forces.
God Bless you sir. May the Light of the World shine upon you and your family. It is people like you whom keep myself believing that there is something good in this world.
God bless you son, and may he take good care of you and your family. Please don't forget the rule. Don't die, come home to your family, your country, and all those who love you.
Good luck and God bless! I've just watched Paschendaele, an awesome movie, made after a real, bloody and tragical event with the art touch that definitely makes it a masterpiece!
I really hope that your son will live in a world of peace, with no vain heroes, with no vain ideals and no dying for some mad men's fantasies. God bless humanity!
Good luck and I send my thoughts and prayers. My father's working at the Wainwright base currently. I remember how hard it used to be to see him leave when I was a little kid...
To all my fallen brothers and sisters, you are missed. you are honoured, you are Remembered. Never will we forget the sacrafices of these few brave, some came home traumatized, some maimed. some blind, deaf, and crippled.....Some just didn't. This song strikes a chord in my heart. For every Canadian Soldier...from The Great War, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, The middle eastern conflicts and all those at home and abroad today. Pray for us, we do it for you..
God, I feel the same way as you, ponygurl. This song was really sad..
I have a preference for war movies like this one and others because I love how storylines are woven in between. These storylines may be based on something true, like Paul Gross's grandfather here, or maybe they're fiction. Either way, they could've been true.
@FedoraStudios My advice is you fight to put an end to the conflict, NOT to defeat and humiliate your opponent because that is how WWII started. France and Britain have been such BAD winners that they made Germany suffer for the first war and that gave Hitler the advantage. Don't forget that.
The movie was wonderful. With the Kannaskis as a back drop for the more tender moments the scenes there and those of the war provided the viewer with high visual stimuli. A tender movie about love set in WWl, Gross' efforts and that of his cast delivered a visually stunning and emotionally moving experience.
Oh and that song, After the war, what a beautiful song delivered with passion by Slean. Think I'll check out her other offerings. Beautiful song .
After your boots dry And the tobaccos all but gone Along with all those postcards youve carried Under your arm After I remember All the words I couldnt say And after this long night fades away Chorus After this blackbird Lifts up from off your chest And after your soul takes its final rest My love, I forgive you You never planned to die And love, Ill place two pennies over your eyes Chorus
After the guns are silent After your wounds have healed After those crosses Have been planted in all those fields After that long boat ride All the way across the sea And after this train carries thee Chorus: I will love you After The War Ill love you for always, forever more I will love you After The War Forever for always and more
i join the army on the 28th of november ( i hope) and if i die overthere i will have this played at my funeral. but hopefully i dont stop a bullet lol
I saw Passenchendaele in the theatre, and everyone stayed for the credits with the war footage to this song. This is the first time I've ever witnessed people stay for the credits. Very emotional experience. My great Uncle Ernest Loney was part of the 10th nd died on Hill 70. Peace and Love all! Thanks to all those who gave their lives and to those who survived but gve up limbs, minds and their faces for our freedom!
Everyone should give there thanks to their soldiers current and past and never forgot what they have gone through, They are amongst the toughest people ever.
I've always loved this song and Sarah does it brilliantly. It fit in so well at the end of the film, what can i say Paul Gross is amazing. Thanks so much for the link
I was able to see the movie without shedding a tear, but when this song started, I totally fell apart. Someone asked me a question, and I couldn't answer for quite a while.
