After seeing that guy's comment that says "this sucks", I just wanted to comment that I like this video. I thank you for putting this up. I'm in an audio production class learning how to do all this stuff, and we're making a 30-second radio promo. I was looking for a way to clean up my audio... so thank you for doing this! I found it helpful!
the most important part of audio cleaning when you have control of the recording is to record it properly in the first place. if this is done correctly your noise floor should be very low...also when audio goes to radio is smashed like a mofo by the station and none of them use the same setup so don't send an over compressed file....beginning audio folk, get right on the way in and you job is 90% done.
nice vid...but geez man back off the input levels and comp/lim on the way in, you're already clipping horribly just look at the wave....digital recording levels that loud are unnecessary unless you have a really noisy floor...you're popping and clipping all over the place, that's way more offensive than line noise.
My friend, please tell me why Audition is not recording properly for me! Have just had it installed on Windows 7 and has anyone had/have the same problem: when I record through my mic, all I'm getting is a very low distorted noise, even with faders all the way up! Have installed Cool Edit from my old system onto this one and that works fine ie mic, playback settings are correct. Surely this is just an incorrect setting somewhere else? Would appreciate the help. :)
Thanks pal. Just sort of getting into this again (at my mature age), after not doing any production for a while. Last time I did I was using the "old" Cool Edit Pro. You're clip is very helpfull, nice and basic to get some good first up results. You explained it well too, without any fluffin' about. Good to hear a fellow aussie explain it as well.
it's over 0db in the first place, so the raw recording already suffers from digital clipping. assuming a clean recording, you'd check the levels inside the compressor before processing the file. lowering the level afterwards doesn't repair the damage already done. due to digital clipping sounding awful, proper gain staging is more important than ever - yet most overlooked by beginners.
i want to put my music track in the first track section so that i can listen it but i just want to record my voice only in track two section....wen i am recording my upper first music track alos gettig recorded ....please help me
de-esser is needed. Or just link an eq to the side chain of the compressor to achieve a de-esser. Also, you compressed the vocals to much. A gate could have been used to achieve silence in between vocal parts.
This video is centered around waveform audio editing only, and is targeted at beginners with a focus on doing this task or similar quickly and efficiently in a radio production environment. In something like Pro Tools, it would be more sophisticated and time-consuming, but then again, so would the project :)
I agree, this is very helpful. If you feel so inclined, I'd love to see more tutorials. EQing basics for vocal or acoustic guitar tracks; more vocal restoration techniques (pop, click, or hiss reduction); or anything else you feel like teaching would be awesome.
how do u get the vocals to come out more real rather than raw out of the microphone or more original than just being from the microphone?????????????????????????????????????
lol "If u don't understand wut I'm talking about it's cool, u won't even care" XD I love ur accent!!!(sry) This video was rly interesting and helpful to watch. SO many people are recommending me to get this so I had to see how good the quality was, and by the sound of ur voice, I'd say it's crystal clear. THANK U ^_^!!!!!
There are no pops in the actual recorded clip, it can sound a little jumpy when I play it back inside the video (which I assume is what you are mistaking for pops, because it sounds a lot like them) because of the screen capture software I used.
