The new gate (SGU) looks weird because it's one of the first generation of stargates.

FIRST: Destiny (whole gate spins, heat vents, bulb locks symbols, etc)

SECOND: Milky Way (inner track spins, "bulb" became top chevron, etc)

THIRD: Pegasus (lit-up computer inner track, faster, more modern, etc)

yeah. i dont get why its different colours between the two shows. i thought it might have summat to do with the fact tht its in another galaxy, yet the gates in the asgard galaxy n the ori galaxy are also red. i wonder if they'll change the colour of any stargates in Stargate: universe?

The chevrons of the gates will be white in SG:U.

They never showed an Ori stargate. When O'Neill went into the Asgard galaxy in season 2, they didn't know they will begin new spin-offs later. So new show, new galaxy, new gatesystem. :)

wtever bout the ori gates. they really shouldnt have changed the colour. yes the blue looks as pretty as the red, but it lacks continuity. they didnt no back in series 2, but they shouldnt have changed it in atlantis cuz of tht

that might be because the ones in the Pegasus galaxy are the newest ones, Pegasus was a lot further away from earth that the Asgard galaxy so the Atlantis ones are probably like Star gate V.2 and SGU will most likely have star gate V.3.

@livstar93 They are different versions of the gate.. Stargate Universe gate is the socalled "Prototype" and was the first. Then the Orange lighted milky way gates. Then they went "digital" with the blue Atlantis Gate

It's probably possible to manually dail the Universal (destiny) gates with a power source as the whole gates spins, just have the desired chevron(s) stop where the seventh chevron would normally be at. Well technically, the Destiny crew are doing such with the Kino-mote (Yes I did combine Kino and remote as the Kinos as dubbed by Eli, are mostly controlled by them) when dailing off-world gates, although it's much faster than using your bare hands and own strength.
