In the UK if you are reverse parking and see any hazard you must stop. This includes nearby pedestrians or a moving vehicle which might come closer to you.
Thats what I call a "love tap" lol just barely nicked him, I bet the truck driver didn't know he/she had hit that car. Probably knew it was close but didn't think a crash happened. Also, if someone was tailgatting that truck they would have crashed into that car.
@roadmonitoroz Ya, when I start driving(2 1/2 years from now)I'm going to make sure when I park I'm gonna make sure I'm as far away from traffic as posible
@cprcrack You must never had seen someone parallel park... The truck driver hit the car and *PERSONAL OPINION* the truck is at fault because you can clearly see he failed to clear completely out of the lane. If he cleared all the way over then the car never would have come close. Plus, i feel he changed lanes to avoid having to wait for the car to parallel park which shows impatience.
@jamie381 I'm with you on this one. The truck driver should have waited for the car to park and clear the lane before moving. Its bad practice (at least here in the UK where roads are generally a little narrower) to overtake a car when its parallel parking. That said, the car driver also needs to take some of the blame for not stopping when the truck started to overtake. Someone starts to pull round, stop and wait for them to pass in case they don't give enough room, as happened in this case.
@jamie381 well every one can have there own apinion but i personly think the car is at fault and i dont think the truck driver even knew there was going to be a parralel park due to no working lights on the car
The car driver is at fault. When parallel parking, you should glance around at all the hazard every few seconds between looking out the back window. The driver didn't do that.
@bugio22 actually it is the driver of the car I should know my sister did that while parrallel parking and it was here fault because you have to pay attention to the front of your vehichle while backing up into your spot and the driver of the car should fof waited until the rig was clear, and yes he would of been cleqar of the car if the car had waited but the driver of the car turned the nose of her car into the truck
@crazyAlexander23 If I did that I'd be on the phone all day. Now if the police paid me to do so, then yes... I would. I've only reported a few bad drivers to the police. One was so drunk he nearly hit the sidewalk, then centre island, then sidewalk then oncoming car. I think he must have been at least .25 - .30. The legal limit is .05 here
The unmarked cop car passed me and managed to pull him over thanks to my help.
@roadmonitoroz ok but i think it wold be a great iadea to undercover video police men it wld bpobebly be called UCVP and is a good on the save way to no pursupes hope fully this will be the future :) take ceare m8 :)
Ha ha, it's between Elizabeth and Charlotte Streets, of course. Looks to be just opposite where the new Ray White CBD office is. I used to walk across that street every day to work.
Yeah. There had been an older woman who was out jogging. Some people called about her thinking it was a man. They were concerned since she was jogging on a very main road.
I say the backing car is 100% at fault. The truck changed lane and although he was not fully out of the lane yet he still gave him enough space until the front end of the car swung out wide.
Reversing in a car is the legal equivalent of offering out blank cheques to anyone who drives near you.
This is a case where a little courtesy would have saved the truck driver some grief, however I don't think the Commodore will get a cent out of the truck's insurance.
I agree. Probably wont get any money out of the truck. The commodore was a P plater and obviously inexperienced with reverse parking.
Courtesy would have been good from the truck since I showed him courtesy letting him out. Most people I let in usually show a courteous act within 2 minutes of me letting them in. I expect it. After 2 minutes they tend to forget.
both at fault but the trucker could have waited or got into lane way better! he should have took in count that the car is turning while backing up and is probably not looking to there left! and car should have looked too! because your still in traffic!
like bryant said, they will probably be more observant after this! did you stop and talk to car? I think you did because you got there outcome! what did they say?
if they find out who would be at fault you should let us know!
I didn't stop because there was nowhere for me to stop safely so I circled around and left them a note with the rego of the truck. Wonder if they have seen themself on my youtube video.
I took the photos on my phone after I had left the note while trying to cross the road to where my vehicle was parked.
I'm pretty sure that anybody reversing must give way to ALL other vehicles and road traffic. I would say the commodore driver is 100% at fault. He or she should not have swung out whilst being overtaken by another vehicle...
Yeah maybe so although the commodore was reverse parking before the truck got anywhere near to him.
That's why it's a tough call.
When I reverse park I always make sure I keep looking around front and rear to make sure the front isn't hanging out too much. The commodore was a P plater though (new driver)
It's common sense though for someone in the trucks position to stop or take caution as not to it any vehicles.
Wow! The driver of the delivery truck could've given way, as he could probably tell the person was trying to parallel park. But the parallel parker could've probably stopped, since they could've probably told the truck driver wasn't goign to stop.
That's the way I saw it too after reviewing it too.
I think the commodore was looking backwards while doing his reverse park and was unaware that the front of his car was stepping out.
I also think the truck was being impatient and in too much of a hurry even though I went out of my way to assist him getting in to the traffic. He could have easily stopped and given the same courtesy I did. I stopped for the commodore as well til he had finished parking.
As the sedan was reversing, and they swung out, car at fault.

@CPWindsorsub True. Only a minor incident. I hope he learned his lesson while reverse parking. He was only a new driver. (p plater)

Truck driver at fault for sure - the commodore didn't leave his lane and the truck driver should have changed lanes fully.
