Just noticed this (and I've seen this movie dozens of times, and saw it 12 times when it first came out in the theater), but it looks like the car didn't quite miss that golf bag looking thing to the right.  He's supposed to drive out of frame but it looks like the radio controlled car got stuck. Take a look to the small open space to the far right, you see the car getting stuck.

That's not really a mistake, because this is the first time Gizmo has driven a car, and I doubt he knows how to do it perfectly.
