  • I love this song. it reminds me of my girl.

  • In spanish Candida is stressed in the first syllable

  • how many knew it was yeast without looking it up?? lol.

  • i remebmber JOEY CONTRERAS of iloilo city dancing his head banging to this tune and dancing with all his might 39yrs ago

  • this song bring back memories of the 80's..love it...

  • Yes, Candida is the name of a yeast, however it is also a proper name for a female, meaning "dazzling white or brilliant". The name was most likely given to the fungus after it was seen under a microscope (many microorganisms are named after their color). So, when listening to the song, lets try to think of a luminous, dazzling woman.... and not a yeast infection. LOL

  • old school maori pissups gats out and one good singer with 50 flat koros and kuias haha memories

  • I was listening to a classic edition of "American Top 40 - The '70s" w/Casey Kasem from October 31st, 1970 yesterday. Right before the #8 song "Candida" played, Casey mentions "four guys" made up Dawn, none of which mentioned Tony Orlando, Joyce Vincent & Telma Hopkins, who were actual members of Dawn! I wonder where Casey got his misinformation from? I remember Tony Orlando mentioning in an interview there was a "fake" Dawn performing around the U.S. at the time "Candida" was popular. Strange!

  • thats my name!!

  • This song is about a girl with a raging yeast-infection.

  • @octopus59 You are the only raging infection around here. If you don't like the music you have our permission to go elsewhere.

  • <3

  • You can't hear this song and sway with the music. A real feel good song from a

  • One of Tony Orlando's back up singers played Harriet Winslow's sister on"Family Matters".

  • Lost season 5 - episode (La Fleur) :)

  • great 70s song

  • Sure beats rap doesn,t it .I love the late 50s to 70s music.

  • @buddimack

Me too. I always felt it was all down hill for music after the 70's.

  • @gendres1

Actually, I think good music started going downhill starting in the 90s, except for several artists. The 60s to the 80s were eras of great music. Forget most of the stuff from the 90s to now.

  • What a cool flashback! Tony Orlando & Dawn were the first live act I ever saw, In Ft. lauderdale, FL in 1976. Love this song and loved their TV show.

  • can·di·da /ˈkændɪdə/ Show Spelled

    [kan-di-duh] Show IPA

    –noun

any of the yeastlike fungi constituting the genus Candida, members of which may cause athlete's foot, vaginitis, thrush, or other infections.

    is this true?

  • I really dig this song when life was tough it enabled me to dream. Tony sings it with feeling,. Great stuff.

  • ok! how do i get to see him live in concert? in branson? totally funny, he was my first concert with my parents at the spectrum in philly. which any day now they r demolishing it!

  • One of the few complete cuts on this great song by one of the real greats of Rock and Roll. Tony's still at it and he is sounding just as good now as he did then.

  • memories, memories and more memories. I'm happy again.

  • So cool.......fantastic clean music

  • This just goes to show that the crap on the radio today is just that

  • I've been waking up at night with this beautiful song in my head. What's up with that?

  • @tribecop Funny, I just had the same experience. I woke up early this morning to a vivid dream where my friends and I were all singing this song. I had to immediately listen to it on YT. It made me smile. I miss the 70's music so much sometimes.

  • Great song! enough said, lol

  • Can't believe this one has been forgotten Tony really had a great voice

  • always one of my favorites!!!! my dad made me start precussion with this band. now i know why!!!! Love you dad!!!

  • always one of my favorites!!!!

  • Yhe pipes in the apt. I used to live in Jersey banged loud all winter long , Tony would've gone crazy running up and down in vain, no girl waiting at the stairs! :)

  • A good example of how to write a hit song....

  • realy like this song

  • I got my middle name from this song!!

  • just take my hand and ill lead ya..

  • Better melodies in the 70s compared to today ?

  • @Aqene1000 I think so, absolutely :)

  • I work with someone named Candida....and I torture her with this occasionally...but she takes it in stride...

  • Tgis is one the best songs that I remember from February from 1971 when I was a little chlid what a woderfull season

  • Super nice tune!

  • New Yorkers are the greatest people in the world. LET'S HEAR IT FOR NEW YORK!!!!

  • @tomthefunky

    This Londoner loves New York!

  • This song was first recorded by The Corporation, which was actually a group of black songwriters, who wrote and produced songs for Motown

  • LMAO!!!

  • @vicster1962 I believe you're thinking of another Sexually Transmitted Disease, called clamidia, or something like that.

  • voltei 30 anos q belezzzzaaaaaaa

  • I remember getting ready for elementary school and hearing this.I think it was a gateway to heavy metal.

  • @NDulge1

how many detours were on that gateway? lol

  • tuneeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

  • Yeah, it's a good song--but it would be better if it weren't an almost perfect copy of Orlando's other big hit of the time period, "Knock Three Times."

  • you're exactly RIGHT! Great tune, but i was listening to this in the car and singing the lyrics to "KNOCK THREE TIMES" :o)

    Good ear!

  • @endora60 Keep in mind that Candida came out before Knock Three Times.

  • This is one of the best songs of the

    1970s!

  • you said it!

  • @MRJAZZMAN1985 Damn skippy!
