when violence is gendered, and when its institutionalized and systematic against women, then yes, women are in need of special protection against violence. when a recent news article came out that 18 women have been raped at one of the Occupy protests, that means that YES, women need special protection against violence. because its not MEN that are in danger just by *daring* to be out on the street by themselves and being attacked, then yes, its needed. Rape is a problem everywhere, but in some communities it isn't talked about. It's important that everyone know that this is a crime that can happen to ALL women including black women. This is just saying that there just hasn't been much research done about Black women and rape.
