Caravaggio's style is very hard to replicate. As an artist myself, I know it's healthy to do a master copy every once in awhile. It keeps ya on your toes.

I definitely wouldn't call this a master piece, it's good and fun, but no master piece. I agree that if Caravaggio were alive today he'd use photoshop; and spray paint and kinkos and tag up the whole of Rome with poster and stencils under the name "LocoVago."

you unlocked the artist's restrictions to create, in whatever means and mediums for the sake of expressions.....u really have ur own skill yet u still inspire me w/ my own limitations :) i am a mixed media artist, a lot of things i cannot do w/ my hands, knowing limitations will open thousand doors of what else you can do..other creative processes are already accepted, it is not less than any art......It is art, by all means as long as u rare rue...... not all magic can be performed by all..

@SpirittoWeb You can do it however works best for you. You can check my channel for tutorials. Sometimes I paint on only a few layers, sometimes I use more. I usually always have my background on one layer, and foreground on another, though.

Why not? Photoshop is just a tool no more than a Brush is. If the great artists of the past had it you can bet they would have used it.

Its a very amatureish thing to worry about HOW a piece of work is created. A real artist will use the tools available to him/her to get the result they want.

Wrong,... not 'any photoshop technician' can do this. This was not a result of photoshop, but of the artist painting skills. Photoshop was merely the tool,... just like a brush or a pencil. Such statements are generally rooted in ignorance.

@darkie1973 I agree that it takes a skilled artist to recreate such a dramatic piece of art, even in PS, however what is missing in the digital translation of technique is the organic experience of the painter engaged in mixing and creating their own color palette. Photoshop literally puts at your fingers thousands of premixed digi-colors :)

That is certainly true, however, I think it takes more hmmm effort perhaps to use actual paint. I have made a video speed painting (it was an old video and is not very good), so im speaking from experience I think. Nevertheless, this work is still amazing

'photoshop work' is something of a misnomer, because it implies photo manipulation or digital trickery. His process above is very similar to how one would work with oils; only the peculiarities of the medium are different.

Mimmo surely can paint exactly like that - or better - with oil on canvas. I saw many of his fantastic vids and he uses many different techniques. This is speed painting with PhotoShop at its best. It's incredible how deeply this man understands shapes, texture and light. I am slack jawed! Most of his paintings are basically "done" already after a few brush/pencil-strokes. Then it keeps getting better! He is fully in command. His style is very tasteful. True genius! That's what matters.
