  • One of the great cello concertos, often played too slow. She was amazing, technically, of course, and musically. What a huge loss!

  • this is so hard, i just got these notes, wow :P but so beautiful

  • she's such a boss.

  • Thank you. Her best Saint-Saens. :-)

  • @Flashmilkis ik who u r lololol

  • GO JACKIE! She's amazing! whenever I play anything I always listen to her and mimic her phrasing, its magnificent!

  • @Lau1793 You bet! I was checking her bowing in the Elgar a couple of nights ago! ;-)

  • @lisamc1991 lolol your dumb... mode? lol

    also... it says a Minor.

  • @Flashmilkis yup exactly me 2 i wish i can play like her

  • Jacqueline Du Pre is super player. But f___ing orchestra closing her sound all time!!

  • I know someone who could play this... She is sitting right by me :D

  • @lisamc1991 btw its in the title...

  • I discovered this concerto on Han-na Chang's first album in 1996 and was smitten by it!

  • Greate Jaqueline! And compare this stupide blonde of Gabetta with her, is trully a nonsens. Vive Jaqueline!!!

  • @lisamc1991 It's minor.

  • Which orchestra is performing this and who is conducting?

  • @ProfundaetImmensa

    Barenboim + Philadelphia Orchestra, here is the disc: h t t p : // is.gd / yY44U2

  • beautiful interpretation

  • beautiful interpretation

  • I'm so sad that she died before I was even born. I would have paid anything just to see her perform once :(

  • I feel like the only reason this is just a picture is to make sure I'm not scared she didn't hurt herself from her movements lol. Just kidding. I love this. Great upload. Thank you!

  • this concert is beutiful

  • oh, and suriname is my favorite country in the world. i can send you landing and taking-off pictures of the runway if you'd like.

  • ya. thirteen

it has been hard especially in the 3rd movement but it sounds great. but nowhere am i close to being a great as jacqueline du pre. she is the all-time goddess of cello. i am already finished learning, and i am now preforming. U really shouldn't be amazed since i started playing when i was 5. so... i am actually behind. thanks though QwertyAzerty2009

  • I am 13 years old and currently playing this. I am not nearly as fast or in tune. But I got the notes and expression down. Out of all pieces I have ever played, this is my favorite. I would also recommend listening to Romberg my favorite composer of all time.

  • @amitayshahar

You're only 13??? Wow that's incredible! Good luck with this concerto, some of the parts can be devilishly difficult :)

  • @amitayshahar Have you listened to the Elgar Concerto much? When you play it, don't let anyone discourage you by saying things like "No one could possibly play it like Du Pre", because you wouldn't want to play it like DuPre. Everyone develops their own style. The same goes for any piece. Good luck in all your playing!

  • @amitayshahar Romberg. do you know his double concerto?

  • Who would dislike this?????

  • Complete artist: superb technique, energy and such imagination!

There will never be another cellist like her. This concerto really suits her but in Elgar nobody comes close to her performance!

  • I am 5 and I'm 6

  • im 13 and... shut the fuck up we don't care kids all over the world play this. you probably play it like shit, it's so rare for a 13 year old to have the maturity to play this the way du pre does.

  • @yeashow123 That's really not constructive; a lot of children play this concerto very well, and many have amazing maturity too. Not that many people could play it in the way that DuPre did, but the only way people can is if they improve. I didn't play this concerto very well at when I first started it, but now I love playing it (along with both Haydn concertos, Dvorak, Shosti, and the other Saint Saens Concerto), and I definitely don't compare myself to DuPre. Do you play this concerto?

  • very good !!!! thanks for uploading!! :)

  • Única .... Jacqueline Du Pre

  • Sense paraules....aquesta cançó és fabulosa!! És moolt bonica! Jo toco el violoncel i ja tinc ganes de tocar-la. (:

  • I'm 1 yr old and I am playing this really really well.

  • im 4 and im playing this.... *cough cough*... pass that shit over here man

  • @TheLittleBekki94

it might just not be their style of playing and they don't want to see another... Different people, different playing styles... For example, I know a friend who plays it more gently than I do and i disagree but its not like i can do anything right? Hey its free speech man... haha...

One thing i really hate people doing while I'm trying read good comments is useless comments like telling people that you're playing this and practicing? Just say you like the piece dammit

  • i'm 13 and i'm playing this.

    this is so great!!

  • @fiilipata why do you tell us that you are 13 and play this?.. thats nothing special.. nerly everyone who learns cello plays it with 13.. if you were 9 and would play it it would be special.. and then just if it sounds good..

  • @johannwegmann #maravillosa ..#deleplay #eso

  • How could thoose 3 persons dislike this?!

  • My sister played this song this song this year. She's 14 and of course it could never be as good as jacqueline du pre but listening to this I can tell she copied alot of the stylistic elements from her

  • @yellowjanie never ever copy something from jaquilne !.. that is the worst thing you can do.. noone can play it like her and if you try it sounds terrible.. every teacher loves her playing, but hates her because everyone tries to play like her.. ;)..

  • @4321jojoba Ye everybody nowadays play the cello in upright position just like she did. There is no originailty anymore.

    :)

  • j'adoooooooooooore !!!!!!!!!!!

  • She's the one cellist who really milks it for all it's worth. The emotional content and complexity is fully voiced in this recording.

  • I'm playing this right now, i'm 17. It's just so much freakn fun. It's so amazing. I'm gonna have to practice it still a little more. Hopefully i;ll be as good as she is.

  • @jotiw1 that's one great attitude... do keep on...

  • I would like this 500,000 septillion times if i could...

  • so freaking epic, seriously the phrasing and her fiery interperation energizes me throughout the day and night. Damn that shit is good!

  • The person who disliked this was joking right?

  • She Is A Rock Star !!

  • She Is A Rock Star !!

  • Just got into a State competition playing this piece. It is INTENSE. So exhilarating and satisfying to play, and listening to Jackie is transporting to a different world.

  • SHe is just flawless. that triplet bowing on the first page leading up to the high E are just flawless with INTENSE vibration and i love her slightly anticipated descent to the low not

  • thanks

  • Pacat ca nu o si vedem. Era un adevarat regal!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...and i thought i was really good...

  • there is a certain way that she plays that is soo recognizable- like the way she slides into some of her notes.

  • Ahhhhh....

    One of the best performances.

  • @-@ ahh!!!!!!!!! I have to play this and ive only been playing fore 4years/ LMAO

  • @BrutaldollProduction haha, me too!

  • Her play is greatness beyond all imagining Her glory will not fade. The music is there, for all the centuries, to tell those of the future that it was possible and that it was real and someone did do it.

  • That is because there is no film of her playing Saint-Saens. Unfortunate for us. :(

  • this is wonderful... I be starting to play this soon, and I'm so excited, I can't wait!!! omgomgomgomg, and I'm going to go to music camp and be playing this and be the youngest person there (i'm 13) and whoa, that's gonna be scary... and I'm so excited to be playing this, it's one of my favorite concertos ever in the universe and Jackie is such an inspiration!!! She's the absolute best cellist in the universe!! I love you so much Jackie, why did you have to die??????????

  • @ChucklezTM how old r u? im also 13 and i play the cello and im going to IU Summer String Academy camp in bloomington.

  • @LightningSpeedRacer I went to Luzerne Music Camp in Luzerne, NY... nicee, I saw that program but I already knew someone who went to Luzerne... so yeah.

This concerto is so much fun to play. I should practice my All State etudes more than this because of the audition and everything, but it's just so irresistable!!!! <33333

  • i love her

  • 7:52 is ultra-LEET.
