I'm from Kansas and saw OZMD a lot in the 70's. It amazed me that they could be a kick ass Southern country band yet go into a beautiful slow song that didn't seem to fit their image
i was a night time dee jay in la crosse, wisconsin at LA-93 in the mid 70's...i played this song every night for a certain girl..i wonder where she is now...anyway this song was always special for that reason...
I heard "If You Want to Get to Heaven" on the radio and bought the 8-track tape (3 or so decades ago)....This whole album has so much scope....Spaceship Orion to Chicken Train!!!
Me and my Dad listened to the Ozarks growing up also it was our camping music at our trout lakes. He took the Road to Glory 5-25-08. I'm 34 now and the Ozarks Keep me and my Dad connected.
There is many great things about being twenty one. The biggest downside is knowing music will never be remotely close to what this band was, and still is. Long live OMD.
This song keeps me wondering how come these great bands made such amazing songs compared to the poor music scene today.Being a B side, this is to me one of OMD's best. 5 thumgs up.
I discovered the OMD a few weeks before I got out of the USAF in 1975. One of my students was a big fan and got me hooked. These guys are so good. Great vocals and instrumentalists. I never did get to see them in person but I wish I had.
The early 70's gave us a lot of these bands, friends that hung together, played together and wrote songs together, and it showed in every tune. Bands like Pure Prairie League, Cowboy (Boyer and Talton) and Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They were close knit family/friends who cared not for adoration or fame...only good music, good times and GREAT friendships! I'm happy to say I still have so many of those people and these songs to remind me!
This was an incredible record for it's time. Still is, always will be. Me and my bros listened to this a lot back in the day. I've lost contact with them over the years, but i still think about them often. This album brings back a lot of good times.
Good tune to close your eyes and hear the story no matter what your high was! I saw them in MPLS, in 74? The girl next to me cried during the whole concert!
i got this recording from Larry Lee;s mom who knew my mom (diane downing-lorenz) from spingfield where they grew up, I had every song memorized before thier first hit came out!! Love these guys!!
@leekasey Springfield is a great town. It is THEE greatest of ALL the Springfields in the US and the Commonwealth. It is a small business town with the coolest people - Brad Pitt - Kat Turner - Bob Barker....more.
I think I'm going to have break down & say this is my favorite song of all time...the memories this song brings to me are the most comforting I've ever felt. I have listened to this song even in the most troubled of times & a certain peace comes over me...make fun of me if ya want...I'm just sayin'...
I recently have fallen in love 70s rock and this is some of the best stuff i have heard thus far ^_^ i may have not lived in the 70s but how i love its music
@88Opeth88 how utterly right you are. This was from my time as a young guy... we had no computers then (or very few) and so music was our life. This and so much other stuff in those days was just fantastic. Pure feeling and perfection with real instruments. Nothing now compares... sadly. Mostly PC generated now.
I am from the Ozarks and hubng out with Sup aka Superman of the Devils. They were our BeachBoys. The Cate Brothers were our Ozark Steely Dans. Black Oak Arkansas ....well....they were our Ozark Rolling Stones. Better to burnout than fade away.
i used to play this song on the radio when i was a dee jay in la crosse, wi. sure wish i could remember the girls name that called me every night to request it....ahhh the memories
35 years, wow, and I found standin' on a rock, chicken train, ect. The Bomb. What memories, I'll be 53 in 2 weeks. Never more thankful for you posting.
MrOlah....I think the song is about destroying our inviroment to the point that Spaceship Orinion is transporting people to another planet....Seemed kinda far fetched when the song first came out....,now not so much!
@CheyanneLautnerx3 Stay true to your dad little one!! I am nearly 46 and I still remember my father playing OMD on the stereo nearly every day!!!! I miss him. Now I am passing this music down to my own son who is 11. There is so much "soul" in this song.
@CheyanneLautnerx3 That is sooo sweet and precious. My daughter and I are the same..... these times are more precious than you can imagine now.... but you will.... All my best to you and your Dad. Enjoy each other honey. ;o)
@CheyanneLautnerx3 lol my sis is 15 and she thinks ozarks are like WORST EXCUSE FOR A SONG! and im like amazing best thing eva and me and my dad we bond a lot through music :)
@CheyanneLautnerx3 You are absolutely correct! They are amazing and when i saw them in seattle and then met them after the show !!WoW!!! Very Cosmic group in the real sense of the word! groups like this are one of a kind!! Amazing music!!:D
Thank you so much for this post, and this is one song that is soothing to me, so I like that you simply post the album cover. I lived in Kansas City and Manhattan KS back then, so fairly close to their home base.....they definitely have the rural influence but are also eclectic were a little surprising ....this is one of my favorite songs!!!!! Thanks again for the vid.
Unbelieveable memories. I had front row seats to see them record their "It's alive" album in St. Louis at the Fox Theater which is arguably the best venue in the Midwest if not the entire USA. The back-up band was Pure Prairie League. It was the best indoor concert I have ever seen. Wait, I also saw Bruce Springsteen at the Fox. OK It's a tie.
I'm a dude that's mostly into rap and hip hop music but I stumbled upon one of O.M.D.D.'s songs last month and I really dig these boys. Thank you for the music.
Wow, that brings back memories. I saw them in the 1970's in Springfield, MO. Had a chance to talk to some of them when they came back in the late 70's/early 80's at Southwest Missouri State University Hammons Center! Good times!
It was good times indeed! I probably saw you at some of their many concerts here in springfield. I remember paying $2.00 a ticket when they played at 'Little Theater' around 72-73
The "original" Charlotte Coliseum 1974. OMD, THE CDB, and Skynyrd. $3.50, festival seating, weed smoke so thick you could eat it. Those were the daze Ladies & Gentlemen...
