The purpose of these riot is to bring attention to the mistreatment and genocide of Tibetans in Tibet especially now when all eyes are on China (Summer Olympics). There won't be any coverage with the normal protests and even so, Tibetans were killed. The Chinese government rejected journalists and forced tourists out so that their brutality won't be exposed.
