Like you said, this probably isn't many people's cup of tea, but when used correctly it doesn't sound that bad. I quite like your piece. I also did music for GCSE, and I reckon I was on Edexcell too.
imagine being tied up in a poorly lit room with this music playing, and then a clown walked in holding a sea bass and a gas mask and said it's time to play HAHAHAHAHA
hmmmmm....i really dont see what the exams find interesting about this style of music? - its hard to get a bad mark for it though coz its so easy to compose and all serialistic music sounds shit anyway!
Serialism had to be the biggest waste of time I did for GCSE music, luckily being a drummer I just did an african drumming piece with an expressionist type score using a series of scribbles to syombolise certain drum patterns and the size determined how loud they were. Good luck guys I got my A so keep up the work :)
i am learing about this type of music in skl now n i think this peice if quit gd compared 2 the 1s i hav listen 2 at skl ... i was just wounderin wether it is spossed 2 be a sort of scary ... if so i think it is bril :D well done :D
this is really interesting. i havent considered this cause i though it would be too hard. We on WJEC board. weve gor Musical Structure, Music from Stage and Screen, Musical Evolutions, Music from Wales and Music for special occasions
When I was doing GCSE it was under the section of Expressionism, but I think I was on the Edexcell board. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be so long as you know a small amount about serialism and how to put the same line of notes together in different ways, etc.
My music teacher was an absolute genius and he helped me a lot in terms of figuring out a structure, but yeah, if youre interested you should go for it, though Im not sure how it would fit into your sections. :/
serialism is a style of music that is basically more understandable when its read rather than listened too. It uses 12 tones, so its atonal, and it is written with a few techniques (im not sure of the actual names) which involve reversing the pattern of 12 notes, inversing it, and inversing at reversing it. I know there is names for it but i cant remember. it was started in the early 20th century by schoenburg.
you have to use something called a note row - a grid whereby you fill in the notes of a chromatic scale in any order on the first line, and continue downward going up a semitone each time, but in any order in the rows. You have to base your piece on a melody or chords from the order of notes in any of the rows - but you are not allowed to mix up the melody/miss out any notes from the note row. Therefore your piece has to convey a mood more through use of dynamics/tempo etc. It is REALLY hard
Lol its ok, just in music i been told its always the Tone Row and on videos its always so that to so yeah lol, just thought i would correct you if you didn't know the proper term.

It's reminiscent of early Schoenberg - the atonality has hints of Bach's later compositions and splashes of irridescent beauty that can't help but suggest the wondrous extemporality of Giotto.
I love this type of music so much thank you for putting this up.

why did you choose serilism? it sounds crap and you have just demonstrated it.
mikeyrose94 2 years ago
Because it's relatively easy to get decent marks and I wasnt held back by musical ignorance.

What image did you use to call this 'serialism'? because this has been made using SoundOfAnImage and is a fraud.
