  • Very nicely performed and well suited for the counter-tenor voice, although I have heard it sung by females and even the great Dietrich Fisher Dieskau (in German).. Surely one of the finest arias in all of music :-)

  • @MeehanJunction And no women can sing this aria, and can't sing at all as beautifully as the best countertenors in the world, like Jochen Kowalski!:-) Happy birthday maestro!

  • Marvelous recording, although it must be a concert performance - it sounds so bravura, and not sad at all. I remember Kowalski sang Orfeo on the eponymous DVD, it was brilliant. I love pictorial sequence of this video, all on the theme, although Rubens looked a bit as a copy of the original? Anyway, a pleasure.

  • I especially like his Vivaldi Latin pieces... Euridice is my supreme mourning, letting go song.. I even like it in German...

  • Nicely done - impressive to say the least !

  • A great shame that Herr Kowalski isn't more extensively recorded, especially in his prime!

  • Das Lied ist sehr schön.

  • Found this song by chance from the Chateau de Rambouillet's website which I looked up due to reading about the Princesse de Lamballe. Totally fitting since Marie Antoinette was an avid supporter of Gluck. I feel like I'm in the 18th century when I hear this masterpiece.

  • Stunning, though it's cut in the end! Great aria! Great Kowalski! Bravo! I suspect that it was recorded before 1991. Thanks for posting. Can you tell me from which album it was taken and the year of recording?

  • Such a smooth yet grand listening experience. Very beautiful and appropriate imagery as well. Lovely!

  • Fantastic.
