  • When I was younger I heard this song, and though I can't understand the meaning I began to love the song. I was inexperience then but I can feel the emotions of the singer. Now that I grew up and had experienced pain,I truly appreciate this song and after all the experience It so marvelous how we can express our deepest feeling through songs.Indeed,Japanese songs are really good.No wonder why I love it,longer than before I have a deeper understanding of the meaning of their song.

  • This is the best and full english translation for this song:

    My Dear Love / Koibito-yo

When autumn leaves fall at dusk, they foretell the cold that will come soon.

On the bench rotten by the rain, no one sits to sing and whisper love.

My love, I want you to be by my side 'cause I am freezing cold.

I want you to say with a laughter that your farewell is only just a joke.

There's a man jogging pass by on a gravel road.

He caused me to stand still and as though he wants me to forget.

  • @dreamsfollower Thx for posting this version. It's indeed smoother than most, and conveys the poetry and gentle setiments Mayumi tries to express in this pretty song.

  • Oh my love, saying good-bye

The seasons might keep on changing

But there was a time when we were like the shinning stars

And when the glow of the evening fades, dreams disappeared, hearts broken.

My love, I want you to be by my side 'cause I am freezing cold.

I want you to say with a laughter that your farewell is only just a joke.

  • Kono uta-o daisuki nan te.

Anybody knows a Japanese song in the 80"s that starts like this "Kamome-o naku na, nakeba sabishii sa ni......"? I used to sing this but forgot the Title. Anyone? Onegashimasu. Domo arigato.

Thx v much for sharing this sad, but wonderful and memorable song w/ us!

  • I've heard this song since very small. My father often said it was Sayoonara, so for a long period of time before knowing its true name, I thought it's named Goodbye. Whatever its title is, the song is powerfully touching and spectacularly inspiring.

  • I am a Malaysian...already 22 years and i still remember this song

  • @inaz1992 me too.. :)

  • oh..my god......is tis so beautyful song....i love it.

  • Even my cat cries when he listens to this song

  • 很好听

  • i love this song

  • I would translate the final verse differently with more natural English - More like "My lover, stand by my side, come by my side, Just tell me one thing, This talk of parting ways...I want you to laugh and tell me that it's all a joke..."

Also unlike Japanese, in English Seasons 'pass by' rather than 'rotate'

  • A very powerful song. Translation is a bit weird tho... takes away the true emotion of the song. Need to understand Jap to really feel it =)

  • @bobos07 don't know about you, but i feel the despair in the music already

  • @bobos07 Translating Jp into English is quite difficult, because of differences in both the language as well as the emotions expressed, which are often subtle and w/ images full of cultural connotations in Jp. But do agree that the translation is awkward.

  • Truly a great song and i remember hearing it in the 1990's. When it was 1992 or 1995 , i remember my older cousin playing a cassette of this song in Malaysia.

I thought it was in Bahasa Melayu from the country of Malaysia , as at that time , Malaysia had many ballad and rock ballad bands that would frequently churn out sad and love songs about getting together and some about breaking up.

I truly respect her and the song.

    A wonderful piece indeed.
