Actually, looking at this closer it looks like he's looking up at something every so often...watch his eyes. They might be lyrics, so I doubt they rehearsed this at all which makes it even better. He adds some of his own words to the official lyrics and all that back and forth in the end is impromptu between them. And check out those dancers behind them! There's just energy all around.

This is a great performance & Tom is right there with Janis. Contrary to some comments, Tom had already become a star w/ his huge hit "It's Not Unusual" so he wasn't intimidated by Janis. They probably barely rehearsed too. He was known for his strong vocals & moved & grooved away, became a sex symbol, and steered to more commercial hits.
