  • I have this urge to hold him down and braid/plait that beard! :)

  • Damn he talks fast.....

  • There's a difference between curing aging and curing death. It's impossible to cure death. You'll still have work accidents(or accidents in general), murders, wars, death by child births, executions, child abuse, suicides, collateral damage by suicides, food contamination, drug overdose, starvation, attacks by wild animals, and catastrophies by the weather. So I'm not really concerned if the world becomes overpopulated...because it won't.

  • Dang first smart speach Ive heard about de population in i duno, about 2000 years

  • This is retarded, what we need is a big enough government to reduce the human population down to 500 million by 2050 FUCK YOU HUMAN SHITS I hate humanity

  • @nathernrock if you hate humanity why don't you just kill yourself?

  • Apply english subtitles and go to 23:21 :P

  • if this doesn't work out there's always the singularity.

  • so half way he is comparing the exponential industry to life span, and in the other he says it's reversable? I onlyhope my kids will live forever but death starts at birth.

  • Comment removed

  • The ending when TED came on the screen scared the shit out of me haha!

  • Even if you're not aging, even if you have no health issues, you're not immortal. You are still exposed to fatal accidents all throughout your life. The longer you live the more chance you'll die of an accident. What if I take a pistol and shoot a bullet through your head? You're dead.

Secret of immortality lies in your brain, not in stopping the aging process. Reincarnation not eternal youth.

  • @Umbrage00 True, but not dying from aging is a nice start I'd say.

  • @Umbrage00 I respectfully disagree. There is absolutely no basis that reincarnation or any other form of afterlife exists whatsoever outside of the tenets of religion. However, Aubrey's basing this whole show on various proven and documented biological phenomena including free radical theory and other studies from various biologists and geneticists. In other words, we have evidence that suggests a way out of oblivion exists, rather than putting our blind faith in our precious religion to save us

  • @Mrjmaxted0291 Hi. No it is not about religion.I thought about reproducing your brain identically in a different human body. When the hosts body is developing, you force its brain to take the exact same form, connections,... as your actual brain. You would be "copying" all your brains files into another body. so to speak.

  • @Umbrage00 That sounds nice and all, and even a little feasible, but bear in mind there's a lot of questions that spring up from a transfer as opposed to rejuvenation. First and foremost, How would we ensure it was actually my conciousness and not just a perfect copy of my conciousness after the fresh body is made? Just because the synaptic connections and neurons all match doesnt mean I've made it to the other side. I'm all for cell transfer, but certainly not body transfer.

  • So, hipithetically, if there was an immortal man or woman and they were around 1million years old, wouldnt every other human be differt from the immortal because they had 1million more years of evolution?

  • The real power of immortality lies in not letting others have it. Super-rich & politicians'll be the only ones who'll know if this tech ever exists, & the only ones who can afford it anyway. Can you imagine how corrupt immortals will be? They'll be gods, we'll be cattle. (Kinda like it is already.) Imagine the low value they'll place on the lives of mortals, who were only going to live another few years anyway? We'll be the walking dead, killed if we can't work. We'll be dog food.

  • @lazur1 Thankfully what they're talking about here is life extension, not immortality or invulnerability. As desperate as a man with everything to lose and the means to keep it, there will always be a man with nothing to lose and the means to take it who's more desperate.

Hopefully there's violent revolution before things get to that point.

  • This the opposite of what we should be doing: The feds should be passing out free cigarettes , free whiskey, free crack cocaine, & free cheap candy. National ads should encourage us to use these items. There are already too many of us.

  • He speaks like he has a rag on his face.

  • The reason we havent evolved to be immortal is because the death and reproduction cycle constantly refreshes the gene pool so that adaption to the enviroment is easier for the speice

  • @agent12803

It's not immortal, it's unaging or at least not dying from aging.

There are a few species out there that and one of them can, at the end of a life cycle revert back to the young stage and start again. Essentially could be unaging.

  • @Jogeta5 yeah i meant "not dying from aging"

  • btw all that shit with getting more money the longer you work for someone is CRAZY even in the day and age now that should not happen.

  • Very interesting. Also couldnt stop watching Aubrey "dancing" as he gave the lecture he he!

  • I want to kill off 90% of the global population, Fuck humanity Fuck Liberals

  • Decay theory mean anything here?

  • Aging isn't a disease and we don't need a cure.

This is one example of how science goes askew.

An age old and natural process, that is: aging, is put into the enemy category

and we need to cure and defeat it ! Wow

  • @DracoAquarian1

Then you can go off and die of old age. That's your choice.

  • @Jogeta5 The only way anyone alive today can -choose- to not die of old age is to willfully die of something else before they reach old age. Plenty of us will die of causes other than old age, but it's almost never a choice. Unless you know something deGrey doesn't, in which case, tell ME;-)

  • @Jogeta5 Choice ? What choice ? Idiot lol

We're all gonna die of old age; unless you decide to snuff yourself out in flury of teenage angst and self-centered terminal uniqueness.

  • You Sir, will get very old then die.. Brilliant mind nevertheless...

  • Nice talk...keep talking and you are aging.

  • I hope the New World Order is a reality, I support this idea of reducing the population below 500 million, I am sick of seeing so many humans, Fuck humanity you disgusting pieces of shit. Every time i see children i grow sick. We were never ment to live past 50 years. Medicines are the biggest mistake of mankind.

We should ban all medicines, surgeries etc.

  • @nathernrock Are you willing to die to see that goal achieved? Or do you feel like you should be one of the 500 million left? I used to think like you when I was an angsty 15 year old but then I grew up. Your ideas are retarded. It's much more practical and less selfish to regulate birth rates. But all in all nothing will work except colonizing another planet. And god knows when that will happen..

  • @unicice you are a clueless fuck. Regulating births won't lower the population down to 500 million by 2050 which is the goal. Some people will need to be killed off. We should start with the mentally and physically disabled.

  • @nathernrock

    Start with yourself you lunatic.

  • Human beings are a cancer, a virus if you will, you shits don't deserve life.

  • @nathernrock

Then that would include you wuoldn't it.

If you can see the positive things in life, then you've got a journey ahead of you.

  • @Jogeta5 Hope you fucking die, you liberal fucks just keep coming up with excuses to protect humanity. Fuck Humanity.

  • @nat:It's been tried: See "WWII". If it happens again, depending on who's got he power, you can't be sure what side of the "mentally defective" line they'll put -you-, since all it really means is: "Not one of us". Be careful what you wish for.

  • This is disgusting, who are we to mess with the natural order of life! Medicines to cure diseases and life expectancy has doubled, what next they going to find a way to live 2000 years? Fuck Aubrey de grey. We infact need to find a way to reduce the global population down to under a billion. What the scientists should be doing is finding a way to shorten our life spans, to age faster.

  • @nathernrock

What is this "natural order."? People seem to use this term to defend their claim when it holds absolutely no basis. Technically, over the course of history, evolution has pushed for the extension of life through more advanced repair mechanisms...So basically we would be doing that very same thing but much faster. Please, don't speak out of your ass because it does nobody any good.

  • MAN that dude has an awesome beard!!

  • Prof.De Grey is actually 97 yrs old

  • @jozsefkacsa hes 48...

  • @Pwegoable LOL It was just a joke.U know hes he's teaching ppl how to stay young,so I thought it would be funny saying his 97 yrs old,but I guess it's not!Sorry But hey thsanx for thelling me his 48 I didn't know and I was kind of wondering.Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! Cheers and Peace

  • Peasants don't need to be allowed to live long.

  • @akko439 Which is precisely why you don't have much time on your hands.

  • @QBisbest If I can't step up my social class enough to gain access to immortality I'm not worthy of it anyway.

  • @akko439 If someone finds a way to achieve immortality, there will be some serious problems in society.

  • You rock Mr De Grey. I am totally in love with the concept of eliminating aging once and for all. Don't listen to any of those pesky, narrow minded skeptics out there who tell you you can't do it. Simply throw them away like yesterday's trash and then when you've finally unlocked the secret to defeating aging, they'll all feel so damn stupid but you'll be so rich and famous (if you aren't so already). Keep moving forward. I support you 110%=)

  • Malaria & aging ARE good things, IF they don't happen to me, my friends, loved ones, etc. Those in power feel the same way, & do their best to keep longer lives away from the genpop, by monitoring current experiments & financing the most promising ones."You've lived 50yrs & haven't contributed much to the one world society. We don't see what good another 100yrs of you would be." The next newborn will likely contribute more: Subtract 1 adult, add 1 child."

  • @fuiop2008 Actually, he does, although there are definitely aspects of SENS that are rightly controversial.

  • This nearly 5 years old, how much progress has he made?

  • @daveypassey Check out the SENS5 conference videos so that you can decide for yourself.

  • @daveypassey

Progress is difficult when much of the world is against him. Research is all about funding.

  • he loves beer, didja know?

  • Tech Review went over this a few years ago and found the ideas not yet well supported enough to say that de Grey's proposals can definitely be achieved. I'm going to be going over the relevant research related to SENS myself for a final project in my scientific writing class. I really hope it turns out this stuff is viable. And if it is, let's hope the world is ready.

  • The end of this video scared the fuck outta me - VOLUME ADJUSTMENT PLEASE!

  • While I know it's frowned upon, please visit the SENS Facebook page to support the cause. I am not related to SENS, though I am a fascinated onlooker who supports the cause. Just go to Facebook and search for SENS!

  • living forever is lame and selfish

  • @ThePlatoon4 Not quite. Its the most fundamental need for a every single being - to survive!

Flourish, keep living is very natural and as I said,it is led by survival. If we would not want to survive,we would not make medications or healthy excercises or stuff whatever...its 100% basic need to stay alive.Living forever is not lame.Living to short is painful because there is alot to see and feel and taste and smell,and...People just want it.Its their right and its their free life.

  • @DeathShooterZ meh i just dont see it. if we were meant to live forever then we would have been born immortal.

  • @ThePlatoon4 Or maybe it’s a right to be claimed

  • @ThePlatoon4

But we are meant to be so much intelligent, that we can try to find a way to overcome our natural limits. So I think that we have the right and the duty to use the intelligence that nature (or God, or anything else in wich you believe) generously gave to us.

  • @paesanot they thought he same thing when the europeans colonized america, and look what happend to the natives.

i get what you mean though, but if we were meant to live forever we would have been born immortal

  • @ThePlatoon4

Then why do we have the capacity to actively address it?

  • @ThePlatoon4

We are talking about saving lives, not about killing people! If we follow your reasoning, we should not use ANY medical treatment, because they cure diseases that naturally affect us. Anyway, I respect your opinion: if an anti-ageing treatment will be developed, you will be free to decide to not use it. It is a free personal choice.

  • @ThePlatoon4 That's a silly line of reasoning. The way you are born has nothing to do with who you are "meant" to become or the choices you are "meant" make. Case in point: If I were meant to study cell bio, I'd be born with a textbook in my hand, right?

  • @StormZephyr cell bio is an idea not a genetic code that you can change to live forever -.- quit taking my words out of context

  • @ThePlatoon4 You said that if we were "meant" to live forever, we would be born immortal, correct?

  • @ThePlatoon4

Huh? What do you mean it is not a genetic code. That is EXACTLY what cell biology is based upon.

  • @ThePlatoon4

Does that mean we weren't meant to defeat cancer? Fail logic is fail. Our bodies WANT us to live forever. That is why we have repair mechanisms. The environment, however; eventually wins out over our body which is why we die.

  • @Rafedile one way or another, life will end. all we do is delay it.

  • @ThePlatoon4 and you know this how? have you been to the future? no you haven't and your and idiot

  • @Omnipherant i'm a complete stranger, I could be an alien for all you know, don't assume too much, and come on, since when in history has a single life never stop ending, ever?

  • @ThePlatoon4 well there are bacteria and jellyfish that are immortal believe it or not, and who is to say we wont solve this problem in the future like we did to so many other problems??

  • @ThePlatoon4 I respect your view but I believe we were made to be selfish otherwise we would have a collective mind

  • @jconnally0 There is a difference between selfishness & self-interest. In short, Darwin suggested life is self-interested, and seeks cooperation whenever it is mutually beneficial.

  • Dear Doctor Aubrey de Grey.

I do not want to lose anymore people I love in age-related diseases.

Or see their dreames and lifes ruined because they're too old.

Sincerly, I wish you much success in your quest to develope therapies that will allow people to stay young and healthy for a longer period of time.

    Thank you and godspeed.

  • everything I have lerned is that his beard must be annoying while he is eating a soup... that's fact

  • God is great, he gave us life, stop trying to defy him. There's so much lies floating around the internet, anything from defining marriage to the lie that we came from monkies. we do not look anything like a monkey, clearly we didn't descend from them. If we allow same sex marriages to happen, our children's minds will be wrecked.

  • @Scattnam

Comment on my page one more time I dare you.

  • @Scattnam The "great ape family" and humans shared a common ancestor about 7 million years ago. Also, we didn't always look the way we do today. It's in our fossil record. Lastly, if you just go to google and type in "mice and anti aging", you'll see a lot of scientific discovers. The aging process will be defeated within the next 100 or 200 years. If your religion can't handle that idea, than deal with it in your own way.

  • @Prolite Hopefully someone fucking kills you. Worthless faggot.

  • @Scattnam

    TROLL ALERT! Threat level midnight!

  • Amazing talk

  • Scattnam=speech and freedom depriving hypocrite. If you do not like this video then why even watch it. I cannot belive how stupidly dumb some people are. This is their state of HEALTH that is being discussed here and it is like saying that they want to be disease ridden inactive and dying people rather then being healthy, alive, and active. Pity. Disease is not natural you cultist numbnuts. Get a clue.

  • @jmario232 Libertarians and ron paul supporters need to be taken to the bushes for a couple of years until they are ready to return to society. When will people like you understand. Medicines, condoms are destructive in the eyes of god.

  • @Scattnam

    Communist fuckhead

  • @jmario232 i hate communism you fuckhead. It's cunts like you who want to cure all diseases, ever thought they were made for a reason?

  • @Scattnam

You sound like a communist to me and if you sound like a communist and act like a communist then you are obviousely a communist so screw off Stalin loving scum and go fuck some Soviet gayass. Commies suck and you are an insult to call yourself an American you prejudice hypocrite extremist pile of crud.

  • @jmario232 You are a sick piece of shit, no body should have the right to be young forever, that's not the way god made us. Hope you die a miserable death.

  • @Scattnam as a person of religion, you should refrain from pointing profanities at those who may not agree with your views. And you should certainly not hope for miserable death upon someone just by a YouTube comment, regardless of what their views are, and show compassion and an open heart.

  • @Scattnam

Sick piece of shit huh? I am not the one trying to violate people's freedom of speech and right to make decisions. This is a free country fucktard. Some patriot you are. All I see is a Nazi or a Commie. One of the two.

  • @jmario232 I just don't think the average people should have the right to be young forever, this has nothing to do with communism ya fucking idiot.

  • @Scattnam Don't have the right to be young forever? What right do you have to hold that opinion?

  • @MentalHygieneMusic God created the way we are just fucking accept it. stop playing god.

  • @Scattnam And where has he been not here I guess theirs a vacancy glad someone decided to fill it

  • @Scattnam

God this God that. I sense a cultist. Go and shove your musty old dark age tomes up your asscrack. Humanity should have the right to live. It is the moral obligation of mankind to save lives.

  • @jmario232 I just don't believe people should have to right to live as long as they want. It's just morally wrong. Think about it you idiot.

  • @Scattnam

    TROLL!!!!

  • @ThePlatoon4 if you listened to anything, it's under development

  • @McGby128 problem?

  • @Scattnam things. also it could be gods will that we do all of this to help (wo)man and to have a better understanding of what god wanted. but i am buddhist and don't believe this but you are free to believe what you want but don't force it upon others since god gave us free-will and can believe what you want. i am 13 and don't believe this aspect of god in my arguement. just another view on the subject,

  • @Scattnam maybe did you think that you interpret things in a different way and if god is all knowing then god would know what we are capable of and god would have made diseases for a reason and our ability to fight them. he would have given us the intelligence to do things we do. if you live in a house, wear clothes then you would have killed some diseases since everything you have damages

  • How is he gonna beat aging when he doesn't even know how to shave

  • Comment removed

  • @Scattnam

Yeah deny people of their freedom of speech and their right to make decisions. That's very fair. If you do not want treatments like this then that is your choice but other people who want rejuvination therapies should have the right to choose so.

  • Comment removed

  • @jmario232 stfu

  • @mysql0 maybe god wants us to develop this anti-aging? and you can think he is the devil, lucifer, beelzebub, 616 or anything but don't force your views so what gives you the right to say that what you think is true since i am a buddhist but i can explain why i think that buddhism is true and don't just say something without evidence or proof its true since where in the bible does it say the devil wants us to live forever on earth? since i believe that all gods were aliens and we thought they

  • @mysql0 were gods because we could'nt understand and did you know that the church acctualy agreed with darwins theories of evoloution? but god might be the devil and the devil might be god but god reversed the story but we don't know. god gave us free will so maybe we're meant to do this. and if you want to die then die and be judged since the anti-aging therapy would be voluntary, so its they're choice wether to follow the devil. and then why do you live right now? since you would have died

  • @mysql0 from all the disease since we prevent disease which i playing god by messing with how long we live so even taking cough syrup is playing god.

  • he talk so fast... he can be a rap singer, anyway very interesting talk.

  • What don't we understand? That everyone needs to fucking die, or else the world population will explode.

  • @ajnode aubrey says we should make minimum births so life can expand

  • @GameboyCW

LOL. Oh yes, that sounds like a perfect idea, and I'm sure it will work with ZERO complications and we will all live in fucking fairy bread houses with candy chimneys that marshmallow fucking clouds drift peacefully out of.

  • Comment removed

  • @ajnode yea how come your still alive?? you should just commit suicide and lead the way you fuckin asshole lmaoO ..... nah dont im kiddin i dont want another person on the news dead because of some other asshole telling them to kill themselves xD

  • How is dying barbaric?

  • Why would the first 150 year old not live to 1,000 as well. Would they not also be able to reach LEV?

  • @Krutchtacular

Because they are not reaching the point where they are given the medical technology advanced enough to keep them alive. Assuming the technology steadily advances either slightly faster or slower than the human aging process.

  • who want to live forever?

  • why does he talk so fast?? sounds like he's on something

  • @mdavi2009 He talked so fast because he had a limited amount of time to get his point across. We all have a very, very limited amount of time as long as we are wired to age.

  • Immortality is more valuable than a Private Jet. So it's safe to conclude that it will cost more than a private jet. There would be less imortals in the world than people who own private jets in the world. The average man on the street won't get near. (good thing i'm rich)

  • Comment removed

  • @DamionCrane

For what its worth I see what you trying to get, at but think you are wrong: presumably companies, medical, pharmaceutical or whatever, will want to make as much money as possible from such advances.

They will make a lot more money from selling affordable treatments to everyone rather than expensive treatments to a few (think in terms of Microsoft in the 90's wanting a computer in every home, not just universities and millionaire mansions).

  • @SomesCuriousities Come on man, tah wouldn't make sense. The system would break down. HAve you ever seen the movie "Int Time??" where would we put all those people??

And also, look up the maening of valuable. You will see that private jets are more valuable than bottles of water. As a rule, the less you need something the more valuable it is. Just think about it for a ssecond. if you don't agree, please message me saying why. i like this discusiion.

  • @DamionCrane val·u·a·ble /ˈvælyuəbəl, -yəbəl/ Show Spelled[val-yoo-uh-buhl, -yuh-buhl] Show IPAadjective 1.having considerable monetary worth; costing or bringing a high price: a valuable painting; a valuable crop. 2.having qualities worthy of respect, admiration, or esteem: a valuable friend. 3.of considerable use, service, or importance: valuable information.

  • @DamionCrane In 1990, anything close to a iphone would have cost as much as a private jet. Now, it's a few hundred bucks. That's technological progress.

  • Not to be mean or anything, but how can you live with a beard like that?

  • @classictvguy1 How can you not live with a beard like that?

  • thumbs uo if you tried to shave him with your mind :b

  • @BrazaoV The beard is awesome!!! May it live on forever and grow a mind of it's own so that it may collaborate with Aubrey in his longevity evangelism!!!! Really though besides his genius the beard makes Aubrey quite memorable;)

  • @BrazaoV I Laughed so hard reading this comment.

  • He makes the point that we can either have a high death and high birth rate, or a low death and low birth rate, and then goes on to make the argument that we should put an end to aging because we have no right to make that decision for future generations... first off, if we decide to lower the birth death and birth rates we are making that decision. Second, a high rate of turnover drives natural selection and evolution.

  • also, people tend to be stupid, so if we stopped aging we would probably NOT slow the birth rate, and our rate of population increase would go up, and the natural control measures for that would increase as well (disease, starvation, etc).

  • @chrisstpeter2000

Evolution is driven by environmental factors that determine which species are best adapted, and will therefore be more likely to survive and reproduce. With the advent of modern medicine, we effectively ended natural selection for the human race, and started down the path of artificial selection. I am not saying this is a bad thing, I am saying our environment no longer limits us in our potential to improve our capabilities to their full potential.

  • I already know the answer to children.

The first way aging will be "cured" is machine man. Your conscious in a machine. And by machine I don't mean robot. Just a "computer" and likely countless will share the same computer. Endless server rooms filled with nothing but artificial minds. Limitless room for more and more people. New children required constantly as men of flesh and blood die and then their current machine copy is simply... activated.

The best part? The machine world is heaven.

  • The beard makes him look like a kook

  • @MissDeeCole Honestly, I don't know whether to listen to his presentation or completely disregard it. That beard, man.

  • It's embarrassing that sentience (especially of the human kind) is so desperate to persist indefinitely in its pursuits of its inconsequential gratifications and competitive distractions, that we're entirely willing to disregard the odious implications of life extension for the sake of the illusory fulfillment of our vain and vacant glory-seeking, rather than ever challenge life's presumed merit or purpose.

  • @thinedoor2 No. I want to live forever because I enjory life and want to travel and discover new things in the Universe. Life don't have a default purpose, you prett much have to make your own.

  • @thinedoor2 Life's purpose is to live. All organisms only fight for this simple goal.

But species are complex organisms. You have children that continue living instead of you. They are but a cell of a bigger organism like you, they are part of mankind. Just like the cells in your body are only a part of you.

But we are so complex we are above animals that continue on living like this. We can become something beyond. Just take the step.

  • In the past, curing aging and death was never even a remote possibility. As a result, it became ingrained in our culture that death was something to be accepted and not feared, which did comfort people back then (and still does today). Unfortunately, now, in an age when we are approaching the curing of aging, these cultural norms are holding back comprehensive efforts to research and treat aging. We need to admit that none of us want to die.

  • The universe has multi-trillion worlds. Our short lives limit our ability in almost every field including helping this world, not to mention exploring other worlds. We need much much more knowledge, so live longer, learn more and progress. Learn again and try again.

  • At least this man has a modest proposal, and a damned decent idea. Not like the rest of you or the Something Billion Worthless People living on Earth acting like their doing something and act like they know everything. Fuck..........all of you who dont have an open mind; Because you know what? You dont know shit about Earth, yourselves, or anything. And neither do I. The sooner you grasp you dont know shit, and humble yourself the better. We are still on the same plateau of thinking Learn R Burn

  • WHY THE FUCK DID IT GET SO LOUD AT 22:54 I NEARLY WENT FUCKING DEAF JESUS!!!

  • @SubjectE damn.. I read your comment but forgot until it got me :D

  • What a peculiar man, interesting though
