this promo here shows how different the wwf was in '96 in terms of talent and target audience than it was a year earlier....(steve austin, the rock, mankind, marc mero, mark henry) i have the '95 survivor series on tape which featured (razor ramon, diesel, henry godwin, king mabel, hakushi, alundra blayze, skip, the 123 kid, barry horowitz, and bam bam bigelow)...
@TheMIZ787 I'm sorry, but I saw "The Miz" and he is nothing more than a pompous ass claiming to be "awesome". I can't wait to see Stone Cold stomp a mudhole in his ass and walk it dey. The Miz is a pathetic excuse of a superstare and you damned kids never saw the real wrestling federation before it was pussified. Austin 3:16 says Mizs' ass is gonna get whipped, Stunnered, and trashed. The WWF died with Cena, Miz, etc., etc. and suck ass.
AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE, 'CAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO!
@KissMeImPunk i been a fan for very very very long time and i think the miz has great mic skills. if his wrestling caught up to his mic skills he'd be one of the best ever. he's damn sure in my top 50 best talkers and climbing.
@ratedtriplex I..I just can't see how he's even remotely decent at the mic. Also, the whole "I'm awesome" gimmick is really childish and it's cringe-worthy. Either they don't know how to act or it's coming off really cheesey and lame. Part of it is them, part is because of the writing crew. God damn the PG Era.
Wrestling was so great around this time in the 90's. I think WWE was actually better in the years of 96 through 97, just before the attitude era got huge...
back in 96-98, when stone cold was probably the angriest superstar ever, there was no one better at cutting a promo. austin in those days made hbk and hitman promos look like toilet paper. i like both of the aforementioned wrestlers, but it's the truth.
LOL...i love these kinda storylines...it brings me back when wwf used to show up on 11 pm to 12 am just to make sure the kids are asleep but then cena came in with his damn PG spinner belts that dont look professional at all... after that prowrestling aint the same anymore..
LOL...i love these kinda storylines...it brings me back when wwf used to show up on 11 pm to 12 am just to make sure the kids are asleep but then cena came in with his damn PG spinner belts that dont look professional at all... after that prowrestling aint the same anymore..
stone cold's character was based off of a masked murderer.. originally stone cold was a heel but due to the fans cheering him, vince decided to make him a sort of face
In December 1995, Steve Austin debuted in WWF as The Ringmaster. Boring gimmick undeserving of a great talent. One year later (just after this), Austin was a popular (yet heel) semi main-eventer, on the fast track to stardom. Thank GOD somebody in the office saw sense!
@azapro911 Believe it or not, it was both Vince Russo and Austin himself who were pitching the Stone Cold character to Vince McMahon after he won the King of the Ring. For awhile, it took McMahon a long time to open up his eyes and see that Austin was beyond most of the rest of the roster in that he was special. McMahon though, to his credit, still gave Austin air time when he still wasn't 100% convinced Austin could make him money
@YoungGrizzly82 And Austin could actually wrestle. All Hogan did was close-line and run his boot into people...and shake a lot. I recommend he stop drinking so much.
austin is the shit he kicks ass even in 1996 with that ringmaster theme then 1997 he started kickin more ass 1998 kicked more ass 1999 he kicked so much ass
yea someone beat me to the punch saying 13 years later Austin is an old fart about to get one of those trophies. Also, you can actually have this match on the new "Legends of Wrestlemania" game....Stone Cold vs Michael P.S. Hayes (Dok Hendrix) LMAO
@lordcrumb07 yeah lol, cena trys to dam much thats why he sucks, austin had natural talent, he dosnt need to act tough he is tough. cena copied the rock too, the rocks always says '' just bring it'' and cena says '' want some, come get some'' its the same thing. and he also copied stone cold. stone cold flips off people and cena does hes little stupid '' u cant see me''. cena wouldnt survive one day in the old day, the OLD WWF!!!
@jeffbrister2004 Between 2001-present, the WWE fell asleep again. But not only the WWE this time, the whole Pro Wrestling industry fell asleep. In order to wake up the industry again, TNA need to be more competitive just like the WCW and Randy Orton should lead us to another era just like Stone Cold did.

Austin, guess what you are one of those old farts getting a trophy...but you know what you definitely earned it! Stone Cold made it all happen in the post-Hogan era!
Indeed, like Hogan before him, he helped launch the WWF into new heights in the attitude era. Austin was a new breed of superstar. He didn't give a rats ass what anyone thought of him. He did whatever the hell he wanted whenever he wanted, and the fans LOVED it.
Yup, I like both superstars. I hate the fact that the internet and today's "smart" fans have drawn conclusions about what went down between Austin and Hogan behind the scenes. I believe some of what's going on but egos or not if both men had their health I think we'd see it. . But that's wishful thinking on my part I suppose. I just miss the secrecy of the business dude! Either way though both Hogan and Austin were major reasons the WWF reached the heights they did in their respective eras!
Exactly, say what you want about The Hulkster, but he helped build the WWE as it is today.
