This is without a doubt one of my favorite songs sung by Ernie. I watch this video every night and just get so excited about Jesus. I know I am going to be with Him one of these day and I praise the Lord for that. Thanks guys for making this song so real for me.
One Great Savior and 1 terific guy singing Oh What a Savior..no one can touch it by far.. Ernie Haasee one of the best tenor singers around...What a Great God we Serve...Amen
What a song! The Cathedral Quartet is gone but to see him sing this keeps them alive in our hearts. His group is just a treasure God is really proud of.
Earnie's desire to revive those old-time powerful songs in an elegant, polished way just makes him most special among the rest of the artists in Gospel music industry today!
Just a few observations about your post. There is nothing wrong with the way Brian Free sings this song, but in most cases, you have to judge a musician or singer based on the genre in which they sing or play. There is no denying that Ernie Haase has a better southern gospel voice. Free does make the song sound a little bit more effortless, but there is less power and less of that classic southern gospel tenor quailty to his voice. He is a fine singer in his own right, but his style isn't there.
Ok then ill just make a couple observations about yours. First, Brian Free is the most recognized and most awarded tenor in ALL of southern gospel music. Including favorite male singer, favorite young artist twice, and favorite tenor a record of 8 times. Brian's voice has always been recognized as THE "classic southern gospel" tenor, and he puts more effort and power into every song then Ernie could even come up with. Which is obvious by the way southern gospel fans have awarded Brian.
Brian also has the sincerity and genuiness in his life and in the way he sings that Ernie never has, which is evident by comment my friends and i have heard Ernie make ourselves. Brian was raised on southern gospel and has been singing it for almost 30 years now. He has never sang anything other than southern gospel and his group has been nominated for Traditional Quartet in the fan awards this year and several other years, and also nominated for Traditional Male Quartet in the Diamons awards.
Brians style is and has been for the last 30 years southern gospel music. He will always be recognized for this song. So there's your southern gospel history lesson for the day!!
*And since when did dancing and jumping up and down like your pants are on fire become a style of southern gospel
I didn't want to get into a big thing here. The real point of the song is it's message, not the performer. But as a teacher and a crtitic of music, including three music degrees (jazz piano performance, vocal performance, and music ed) I was just giving it to you straight. Fan awards are great, but many times don't give it to the most deserving candidate. As I said, both singers are great in their own right. As for the history lesson, anyone can copy and paste the BF &assurance website info.
@Cardsfan671 I didnt take that from the website. I got it from Brian. And you're right Fan awards dont give it to the most deserving person sometimes, but the deserving person would never be Ernie. Im much to involved with Southern Gospel Music to think that. And i wasnt trying to be mean about it, but you're we'll have to agree to disagree.
Also, in regards to "style" I was simply referring to the music and the voice, not the stage presence. The actions of a performer on stage are more often then not, not nearly as important to me as the talent. Also, I need no music history lessons lol. I've got overload on that subject. In the end, it comes down to personal preference. We're not going to change each others opinion by arguing about it. We'll have to agree to disagree.
An older Ernie sings this song with such emotion. With Signature Sound makes this song beautiful as it did with The Cathedrals. Ernie seems to get really excited at the last refrain. Gwen Weaver
If you can sit in your seat after that performace, I feel soory for you. Because that will send chills up and down you if you just listen to the words. Fantistic job Ernie.
What can i say that Ernie is amazing and no one but Ernie can even sing this song or come close to it..This definatly is Ernies song of a lifetime....
These are the best musicians known to man kind.I could listen to their music every day for my whole life. They can just go up on stage and praise god while having fun.I will miss Ryan so much since he is leaving.Ernie Haase and Signature Sound will never be the same.ALl though the new guy sounds like he could be good but no one can replace Ryan.

God bless your heart!

wats good is Brian Free, who does this song so much better than Ernie! So so so so so much better
bfafan1 1 year ago
Just a few observations about your post. There is nothing wrong with the way Brian Free sings this song, but in most cases, you have to judge a musician or singer based on the genre in which they sing or play. There is no denying that Ernie Haase has a better southern gospel voice. Free does make the song sound a little bit more effortless, but there is less power and less of that classic southern gospel tenor quailty to his voice. He is a fine singer in his own right, but his style isn't there.
Cardsfan671 1 year ago

Cardsfan671 1 year ago

Gwen Weaver
