@BroadcastJohn He did not use anything for the missing chunks. That's why he used the 80/20 mixture so it would stick. He used the same mixture for the 2nd coat. The adhesive was part of the drywall compound.

@lektorlondon In His original framework for mankind, God gave Adam a “help,” a companion, so that he would not be alone. This companion would be “one who works alongside.” And the companion God gave was a woman. God made woman, who was “meet,” suitable, adapted, complementary for man.
Update: Some have asked what he was using, so I finally gave him a call to find out. For this first layer in the video he was using a combination of drywall compound (80%) and moulding plaster (20%). He often uses more moulding plaster but advised that the more moulding plaster you use the less time you have before it sets.
If you've ever attempted this, you know what an art form it truly is... and seeing an expert doing his thing is just relaxing to watch. I'm here because I've yet to approach even a mediocre job at it and frankly, have become near homicidal. Watching this master has at least temporarily restored my sanity.

Such smooth and graceful motion. If you had a trowel in each hand, you could fly.

Thanks for posting this video. And thanks for the detailed info about the first layer. However, I have a few more questions.
Before applying the first layer, what did he use to patch the missing chunks of plaster?
Did he use the same 80%/20% mixture for the second layer?
Also, he mentions that the material is thick because of the glue. Did he add adhesive or was it part of the drywall compound or moulding plaster?
Thanks.

I always use slaked lime with slow set and/or gauging plaster. Gives me more time to work it up to a sheen, similar to eggshell finish

Great work, was on youtube trying to watch good videos of how to skim coat, this is one of the better ones.
I'm attempting this on my own, and so far it's working out good.
