First off kudos on your work! Scions and customizing seem to go hand in hand! Can you move/remove it when you have a passenger?
The two main features your setup shows of playing mp3s and GPS, are the exact reason I am looking at a Mitsubishi.
The Mitsubishi Lancer, Outlander, and Lancer Evolution all have an available 30GB hard drive music player and in dash touch screen navigation system. Just insert any CD and the music is automatically scanned and stored in the 30GB hard drive.
Yes, it's possible to not only remove the monitor, but you can also swing the arm back into the dashboard to it is out of the passenger's way. I bought a special hardware setup that allows me to slide off the monitor for safe storage. Every night I take it off and into the house. That scan and store in the Lancer sounds cool, although, with my MCS setup I am able to install any size drive. The next expenditure will be a 500GB drive, which should just about fit all my MP3s.
Ooops -- I accidentally hit the mouse. I was saying... Keep an eye out for a new video I will be posting in the coming weeks. It shows how I ripped out the entire system, rewired it, added some new cosmetic touches, and added a camera+DVR setup.
I was actually going to install a bunch of USB sensors, but your idea sounds better. Got any links on where I can find the cables to interface to my computer?
And yeah, it is doing more. I just added a camera and plan on adding a second one, to record the front and rear view. Thanks for the comps.
What mount are you using for the screen?
