These dogs are very good hunters. They can track and pin Deer for stalking, retrieve pigeons n crows from decoying, Point flush and retrieve game like pheasant and grouse and they have webbed feet and are brilliant retrievers for duck and are big enough for goose!
These days were bred to be a do it all hunting dog! :) Lovely dog mate
The best hunting dog inthe world what a statement, springers are a general hunting dog, ie all rounders, english pointers are a specialist ie grouse and labs pick up. If you want to retreive a goos get a damn big dog, chesepeake springs to mind. My father had ft chps spaniels for 20 years and i ran english pointers on grouse, so i guess i can comment.
aye mate for rabbit hunting you CAN use a german shorthair (Gsp for short) but know this once you teach a gsp to hunt for any game other than bird they can never go bird hunting again they will fail because they will get distracted while pointing and run after the other game and scare away the bird.but they work just fine at hunting anything. lol and by the way you dont teach a dog to bring back your game alive. it depends on the breed you need a softmouth to do that which is a GSP.
so just give them rabbits while they are young and squirrels and other critters while they are young and teach them not to shake them to death and to just retrieve.
but i dont see why you dont want them to kill the animal being that they just shake it to death and becuase of their breed there is no blood lol just a... shaken to death animal lol
hi mate listen i use to have a pointer my self now if i was you these are the things your looking 4 when your buying a pointer 1 make sure he has got round brown eyes and there not light 2 make sure he is the runt of the litter his legs are straight and ask the owner to take him out side if he is confident jumping on things and also comiing up to u that iz a ten out of ten pointer abd gd luck wit your rabiit shooting mate
@coreymolina im not sure about bringing back the animal alive, the rabbit could bite the dog, and injure him. the shorthair is a good retriever.. they have a soft mouth, but will crunch it, if it bites im. we used to train my grandfathers dogs for pheasant, we would take a pheasants wing, and tie it to the end of a fishing pole, and play with the dog for a natural drive for bird. unfortunatly we could never taker the dog fishing, because he also associated fishing with it, and jump after lures.
@vanluydweyde your dogs are working too close to each other to train them you should go on a walk through pheasant land wi somebody else holding one dog and you holdin anoher on long extended leads bout 20metres of lead an they will get used to not walkin together thats wat i did
i wasent trying to say anything bad about these dogs. they are beautiful and they are doing what they are supposed to do, however when they stop and point they should hold point till they are released. whoa bord training is the best medicine for a dog to hold point.i own 2 gsps that are in master hunter division and they cannot sneak after establishing a point or they fail
@leepschkin why shouldn they its a part of pointing so you dont scare the bird far away and you can get closer while the dog is not making any noise learn then comment
nooooooo mate the best hunting dog in the wourld is the springer spaniels ther good on flush on land and water and retrive on land and water and they work in any condtions and never run out of energey
cool video ! Great dogs work, excellent before and after flying. All the best from Elba Island, Italy. Ignazio.
