  • ahhhhh, so we meet again 240p

  • Maquis Forces International has a team for seti@home . If we can help make a difference, we're going to try. :) We think this is a worthwhile cause so we volunteer our computer power to it.

  • folding at home is a lot more worthwhile

  • @platyproductions It is more worthwhile than SETI, but not necessarily BOINC as a whole. BOINC has rosetta@home, which is just as useful for mankind.

  • finally got it to work

  • Let's keep in mind that BOINC and SETI@home are two different things. BOINC is a software platform. SETI@home is just one of the many projects that runs on BOINC. BOINC is superb in its uses. SETI@home is a poorly run pipe-dream that will never come to fruition. Your CPU/GPU cycles would be much better served crunching one or more of the many different projects that run on BOINC.

  • It's ironic that the project which launched BOINC is, by far, the least stable on the BOINC network. Projects like Einstein@Home and CPDN get by pretty well, despite their huge server loads. But seti@home's servers are (almost) always down, and they're always asking for money to buy new hardware. What's more, other projects produce results. e.g. E@H has found a new binary pulsar, which S@H has tried to do and failed. Don't waste your time with this project until they get their shit together.

  • Tried it and didnt like it.

I really dont care what I helped, but I wouldnt mind some of my bandwidth and cpu power being used for other stuff than just my torrents because my computer is usually on.

What I wanted was a easy to use, medium settings default and flashy eye candy program that would work in the back ground when I was AFK.

What it felt like was like a installed a vampire that set everything to max, fiddly GUI, crappy eye candy that had optional plug ins that would prevent CPU burn.

  • The official download site seems to be down.

  • Dr. David Anderson should not trust Art Bell.

  • ya look at my super powerful 10 mb 0 core 2 mhz computer its SOO AWSOME

  • Certificate of Computation - SETI@HOME_BONIC_AMIT

  • Hi, I have downloaded BOINC, and so i just wait and the pc dos all the work? aslo i have a question, can we choose 2 proyects? i tried but it says fail system, why?

Also I would like to see how is the developing of the cause.

    thank you.

  • You can set your preference to only crunch multibeam seti and ignore astropulse.

  • I loved the old program, but the astropulse was bogging down the rest of my projects. If you had the old program I'd load it again.

  • so do scientists use volunteers computers for their memory, so they can run alot of services and processes, ooor what .

  • I hope they get funding for building the Allen Telescope Array(ATA) to 360 parabolic dishes. this year in 2009.

  • really awesome.... finally

  • I use BOINC in order to help life sciences research projects. I run BOINC and World Community Grid clients in all my computers at home, work and my friends and familly PCs.

  • Quite good.

  • I'd love to have that sort of comuting power. It'd be too difficult to parallelise for studying neural networks, but enumeration and statistical analysis of other emergent phenomena, it would be a dream come true for arteficial intelligence.

  • SETI stands for 'search for extraterrestrial intelligence'. It trawls through masses of astronomical data looking for patterns that couldn't have been caused by known natural phenomena.

  • I am making compute to my dual core PC at maximum processing capacity of one cpu for SETI, LCHatHOME and FoldingHome projects.

  • I don't like SETI. But it's up to you what you want to compute for!

I like projects that helps medical progress: Like POEM@Home.

  • :)

    SETI!

  • SETI FTW!

  • Woohoo!!! Go SETI!!!

    ~MrGray

  • This is a very good video Misfit. I have linked to it several times. It explains what the project does very well. It is good to see Dr. David Anderson speeking.

    Thank you.

    John.

  • Great!!! I was hard to find some Seti videos here, thanks a lot. I participate on 2 BOINC proyects, Seti@home and Rosetta@home; and I always participate on their official forums. Greetings!

  • BOINC rocks
