Someone came from British Columbia told me that there are lots of oil wells that are capped and no company wants to use it because it would force the price of gasoline to fall below $0.50 per litre. Greenpeace would be using their resources better if they told people to install CFLs in their homes. If everyone one in America replaced one incadscent bulb in their home with a cfl bulb it would be equivalent to taking 7.5 million cars off of the road. Their is lots more things the oil in fort Mac is used for then just to make gassoline the oil produced up their is a key ingredient in solar panels, as well as a lubricant for the bearings on windmills.

The oil sands is needed for Alberta and Canada's economy...I agree more needs to be done to offset the environmental impact but it can not be stopped.I have worked in the area many times and have seen it first hand unlike most people that bash it over the Internet having never been there.

The process of getting soil out of the dirt is CLEANER than drilling for oil in the Gulf. Greenpeace, you need to learn more about what is clean and what is not. Greenpeace would be using their resources better if they told people to install CFLs in their homes. If everyone one in America replaced one incadscent bulb in their home with a cfl bulb it would be equivalent to taking 7.5 million cars off of the road. Their is lots more things the oil in fort Mac is used for then just to make gassoline the oil produced up their is a key ingredient in solar panels, as well as a lubricant for the bearings on windmills.

Still though, even if every single person only rides the bus or carpools, we still need oil for them, and thus, the oil sands must continue to be used. Which is why I recommend instead of protesting the use of oil, we eliminate the need for it through greener technology, bitching solves nothing.

The biggest hypocrisy in this is that Greenpeace has never given more than luke warm support to electric cars. In Germany they have even campaigned against them, calling them Klimaschwein (climate pigs) and greenwashing. Even with present electricity sources compared to conventional oil electric cars represent an improvement. This climate episode we are experiencing is a naturally occurring event according to centuries of historical data. Not because of one spec of human output of "gases" in Northern Alberta. this whole campaign is a crock of shit. water and sand is the only thing coming out of these pipes plus they reuse all there water thats why they have giant tailing ponds to RECYCLE. Its only our fault as people demand oil, everything runs on the stuff and everything is based around petroleum products the only one to blame IS OURSELVES ME INCLUDED. PS I live in Edmonton AB, Canada and I see no problem with the Tar sands. Its our giant V-8 V-10 engines that are killing us. not oil producers.

@andy24722 You can find plenty of scientific papers on contaminates in the athabasca river due to Oil sand development. Its not our fault oil is in such high demand - Companies like these keep it in demand for the profits. We could all be driving electric cars by now if they weren't snubbed out by oil and many other companies

More study must go into other proven methodes of fuel before we just convert to Electric cars. Liquid Flouride Thorium Reactors for example. This is a proven source of fuel that creates fractions less waste than Light Water Reactors and is 10x more effective at creating power. Why have you never heard of it. Because of these oil companies.

Funny how no one mentions that CANADA is the only country dedicated to producing bacteria in order to eat and process the toxic waste in tailings ponds such as this. Also the never mentioned all the tailings ponds reclaimations that have occured in the last decade. If you visit the tailings pond disaster mentioned in this slander campaigns you would never have known it was a used as such due to the incredible efforts our people put into it. Oh btw, how is the Gulf doing? Ya thought so...

The process of getting soil out of the dirt is CLEANER than drilling for oil in the Gulf. Greenpeace, you need to learn more about what is clean and what is not. There is NO lake in Fort McMurray where you THINK 'dirty water' is put into our drinking water. Alberta is a very clean environment. Lived here all my life. I suggest you drill your efforts toward BP and leave US alone. Greenpeace is sometimes the most ignorant movement of all time. U were not invited to the plant to get real answers.

The oilsands were discovered in the early 1900's. Pools of oil dotted the surface amongst rivers, lakes and forest.
God made the oil sands not man.
If man or Albertans had accidentally dumped a trillion barrels of oil the greenpeace would be yelling "CLEAN UP YOUR MESS"
But Albertans didn't spill the oil, we are only trying to clean up what God left for us.
