direct contact with God is the promise of the new covenant and what the Holy SPirit it for.
THis has been flagrantly abused by the likes of Foster et al, but if you are going to deny such then you are pharisees that have nothing but dead letter, unbelieved doctrine, fruitless lives and an impossible law code.
you dont want direct contact with God? so you scream blue murder at those who counterfeit it, rather than have the real thing yourselves.
@Strefanasha If I may be so bold as to answer on behalf of the speaker, based on this video, my assumption is that he's not saying that we as believers should not energetically pursue a personal relationship with Christ but his concern is the METHODS by which these apostate teachers such as Doug Pagitt and Brian McLaren are achieving "direct" contact.
He's saying that using things like meditation, contemplative prayer are actually achieving contact with demons, not God.
gayfreewill I guess you are one of those that thinks God should make everything perfect in this world becasue what??? you deserve it? The rain falls on the just and unjust alike. Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. This world is in the condition that it is in because of sin. Sin that human beings commit.
I've just written a book about Hell & eternity that will be out soon. It talks about what the Scriptures actually say on the subject. Join in the discussion....
I am reminded of the Apostle Paul's example to the true believers who lived as a self-sufficient tent-maker and refused to be a burden on the emerging churches in the first century for personal gain in preaching the Word. Unlike today the emerging churches are a stumbling block to believers. You know these by their fruit for financial gain or false doctrine contrary to the Bible because they are dead to sin and spiritually live in darkness. When we read the Bible we walk in Truth and Light.
@Catawegmann I agree with your statements except I would not refer to the first century churches as "emerging" even though I know you didn't mean it that way.
That word is now forever tarnished.
In fact I'm thinking of creating a video of words that are a sure sign that false teaching is ahead... here's just a few:
Where is god's love and help when calamity comes and tsunami's separate babies and screaming children from their parents arms? When 100,000 or more die in such disasters? Where was his protection of all those religious folk down south while katrina drowned many christian folks? Where is his hand when babies are born with hairlips and deformities and twins heads cojoined?
If god acts like hes's not there we should treat him like he's not there.
ATTENTION christians. A recent study shows that non-believers such as atheists know the bible better than you all. That is why they becaome atheists because they know how ridiculous the book is and they know the errors and contradictions. They examined it. SO when you baby christians recite scripture it shows just how infantile you are in your thinking. It reveals you as robots who are programmed with verses and that's all you use for conversation. Can you reason, or use common sense?
@BereanBeaco Why are you so afraid of a real conversation? All you have recited is scripture verses. That's faith not facts. That's useless against common sense logic and reason and reality.
Take a few months off from your religious drug trip and educate yourself in reality, science and books that clearly point out the insanity of christianity. Hey! I just come up with a good one! Christ-insanity.
Got to remember that one. "THE INSANITY OF CHRISTIANITY" Sounds like an excellent title.
"In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing."
"A man is accepted into a church for what he believes and he is turned out for what he knows."
"The Christian god can easily be pictured as virtually the same god as the many ancient gods of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites."
"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man."
@BereanBeacon1 YOu believe in hell? You should know it makes no sense.
Just think how ridiculous the idea is: A loving jesus who claims to have unconditional love is making conditions. He says accept him or be thrown into the lake of fire. What a terrorist that bum is. Any person who claims such B.S. should be crucified.
I used to believe that non-sense too but found later we were lied to. I began a three yr quest to examine my faith closely and i found it did not add up to truth.
The most important idea i can impart to those caught up in religions is that they should understand that the human mind is so very, very gullible. From an early age we believe in many far-fetched stories because they are told by people we think we can trust. We believed in Santa and the tooth fairy when kids. We were also told about spiritual ideas such as jesus or mohammed and so on. We believed whatever religion we had thrust upon us. Without questioning it. Religion poisens the mind.
Religion in the world is sad. Amazing that we live in a most technilogical age yet people still believe in silly bible stories. SOme folks refuse to be educated. I say start thinging and learning about all the errors, contradictions and false prophecies in the bible. They are all online and easy to access.
Use your common sense. Religion is a virus. It is a drug and yes it makes you feel good and alters your normal state of mind. Religion is not natural. It is unnatural.
@Gayfreewill Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:21,22
@BereanBeacon1 Not impessed. Once again one of those verses to target thinkers and real wise men who know that religion is a tool to control one's mind and the masses. You got to be a smart cookie to see thru it but you are not a smart cookie. Just another sheep, brainwashed and deluded. but that's really ok if that is what makes you happy. That is your drug so enjoy it. If it makes you feel better than the rest of us, and all holy and pious then fine. You have a right to your illusion.
@Gayfreewill You are correct. We don't have a religion, we have Jesus Christ. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19
@BereanBeacon1 No you have a religion. Study religion in college or something and you will find christianity in a religion class, not science, history etc. Pure religion.
You obviously are a baby christian because you would rather spew forth the venomous scripture then have an intelligent conversation.
Do you believe in Noah's ark story? You really think penguins, panda bears, crocs, and anacondas where onboard? Chew on that for a while. Educate yourself.
Imagine just how every Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and so on feels about their beliefs. They have peace and comfort in it. They believe they have the exact truth. They sincerely believe that. So do christians. If you were born in a christian environment you most likely we be a christian. The same goes for the other religions. This speaks volumes to those who think. Everybody is an atheist to a certain degree. All you have to do is go one god further and you are a complete atheist.
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:13-15
@BereanBeacon1 It's one of those fear and terror verses again designed to proclaim that everybody else is wrong and only jesus is right. Which is a lie and complete bullshit. Jesus threatening all other ways/beliefs with DESTRUCTION. Oh how wonderful is UNconditional love is...yeah right...bullshit.
I have learned alot from you xtians; That brainwashing is so easy to accomplish. I have learned how great a delusion can be and how people are so gullible. Wake up and think.
The bible is a book of terrorism. In the OT God murdered countless humans by his own hand or had others do it. read it. Then religion created a Jesus and he came and terrorized the people with the concept of hell. He said he loved everyone but if you dont bow down and stroke him off you will go to hell. ANybody with a brain can see right through that. Problem is, christians are braindead, brainwashed and delusional. To terrorize is to strike fear into people and threaten them with suffering.
@BereanBeacon1 Sure. There's a catch to that verse. FOr god so blah blah blah.... we heard it a zillion times. The catch is what if you don't believe in god's son?? Ah ha, your book of worship says nonbelievers will go to hell. Which christians believe is fire and brimstone, a fiery furnace, separation (abandonmnet) from god etc. Do you know how many people are petrified and scared into believing? Christianity is a threat as Islam is. Believe or burn. You got to be the dumbest to believe that.
@Gayfreewill Well, Bible Christians are compelled to tell others about the free gift of God by faith in Jesus Christ. What people do with it is up to them as we don't to threaten with physical harm.
@BereanBeacon1 Right, yeah you just tell the "good news" and let people find out the bad news once they start reading that book of terror. Jesus was very clear about his message of terror even though it was wrapped in beautiful love and sheep's clothing. Inside is the most insaneidea ever to hit the planet. The idea of hell. But i admit the invention of hell has scared millions into accepting the faith. People with no guts, who can't think for themselves. No common sense, logic or reason. Sad
@BereanBeacon1 How do i know? Most people who attend church have a very real subconcious fear which has been pounded into them through the church's fire and brimstone teaching. The "turn or burn" threat. The "reward and punishment" idea is the bible's theme. "Accept and believe" or else you will be hellbound. Therefore people who are churchgoers have that fear and terror to keep them in church and believers. It is almost impossible to escape that fear unless one has the guts to question/think..
@Gayfreewill We believe in eternal security, so we serve our Lord Jesus Christ with love and not fear. Jesus promised peace and freedom. 1Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him [Jesus]; for he careth for you.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
@Berean.. I know all the verses. I wore out 3 bibles. I would recommend you to spend 3 yrs studying the opposing views. The problem with you religious folk is you only look at one side. When i did that i was as you are now. Braindead. But i dared to look at the otherside and educate myself.
There are Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists etc who find great comfort and PEACE in their beliefs. They know deep inside them they found the truth. The only problem is they decieve themselves like you have.
The bible is a book of terrorism. In the OT God murdered countless humans by his own hand or had others do it. read it. Then religion created a Jesus and he came and terrorized the people with the concept of hell. He said he loved everyone but if you down bow down and stroke him off you will go to hell. ANybody with a brain can see right through that. Problem is, christians are braindead, brainwashed and delusional. To terrorize is to strike fear into people and threaten them with suffering.
A warning to all christians: Wake up! You all have been brainwashed and are deluded. I was in your shoes at one time. It took me three decades to snap out of the delusion. I did it by education and examing the faith with the highest level of scrutiny. With the age of the internet and easy access to information we no longer have an excuse to not look at both sides of what we believe in. All religions are false. We simply are not required to follow anyone. How foolish it is. Wake up!!
Matthew 7:13-15 True Christians are the few.
@BereanBeacon1 Yes i know that verse well, but i had the balls to wipe my ass with it, because i will not be threatened into submission to any religion whatsoever. Yes, weak-minded and sheepish people are terrified of not getting through the little narrow gate, but people not buying the delusion are intelligent enough to see through christianity which is a religion of terrorism. To strike fear in others and threaten them with violence as the bible does, is what terrorism is all about. Wake up!
All religion is poison, The religious fanatics are greatly deluded and oh how great the delusion.
Despite all the evidence about the bible being riddled with errors, contradictions and false prophecies, people still follw this shit. I once did too but i woke up and got educated. Lose your religion and be truly free. Oh how great the delusion.
@Gayfreewill Please read the Gospel of John (KJV) and send me three "errors". You are correct about religion and as such we are enemies of it. We tell others about the FREE GIFT of God by faith in Jesus Christ and then it's their decision what to do with it.
@BereanBeacon1 Google bible errors/contradictions and false prophecies. I can't do your homework for you. If you truly are seeking honest answers then you will research on your own as i did and countless others who dared to question their faith and examine it without bias. You will be surprised if you are not too far gone.
I was a christian for decades and it tokk me several years to get off the "drug" of religion.
@Gayfreewill You were never a Christian according to the bible.
They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. I John 2:19
@EIGHTYNINENINERS The bible has those "built in" verses to threaten those who leave the sheep flock (don't forget how dumb sheep are). I was sincere as a christian with all my heart soul and mind. SO don't tell me. I just have the balls and the guts to think for my self. I had the courage and boldness to examine my faith and i found it to be false like all others. I was strong enough not to fear the message of hell and damnation and see through the lies which your religion spews forth.
Amen! This is a great sermon. Thank you so much for sharing the truth with us. The Bible says that wolves in sheeps clothing would come in and cause the flock to scatter. Also that there would be a great falling away before Jesus returns. That's just the way it's going to be. I understand your plea with us to defend the faith, indeed we should, but we are not going to change anything that GOD said was going to happen. GOD bless you and yours. All glory honor and praise be to our Lord Jesus
And without the Spirit even those who here you testimonies and believe on Christ if they do not receive the Spirit, they will be deceived and led astray again!! This is what has been going on for the past couple of years and we all see how powerless so called Christians have become. They are all deceived and gone astray for lack of the Spirit or grounded knowledge of who he is.
I bless God for your ministry but I just wanted to bring this to the forefront !
I simple make this inquiry because I have been waiting for you to introduce the person of the Holy Spirit who is Christ with us but you have not. I believe God did a great thing in you and has used you till now, but I also know that buy now you should be aware the you must introduce the Spirit to those you preach to very aggressively!!
Without the Spirit, there can be no power to convert, heal and shed light on Gods word.
Excellent exposition Sir! I thank God for what he has and is continuing to do in and through you since he brought you out of the church of satan! It is indeed by grace alone!!
Are you aware that satans biggest deception used against christianity is to send false shepherds who will avoid telling the sheep anything about Christ in the person of the Holy Spirit sent to help us? Did you notice Pauls concerns for those who had believed but had not received the Spirit??
Great video thanks for sharing. The more I go on in studying this movement the more I see quite a bit of Universalist Unitarian beliefs as well as a huge touch or restorationism
Personality doesn't count ---- Lol, all the people complaining about how "dry" he is. So what? Truth is truth. That's the trouble with America and us Americans...gotta be entertained at all times...Lol
This guy does not know Christian history or Tradition of Orthodoxy and what the new testament church was all about. He thinks in the Western mind and that of protestantism. But he is who he is. Pray for him
Very typical response. What must we do to be emergent? Take philosophical ideas and movements, redefine them since most do not know the origins or a proper understanding of several movements In Christianity therefore your Christianity is based on Hellenistic thought(still trying to figure what this is) and do not holcd the truth as originally delivered by Christ/Apostles-definetly a restorationist view that many cults also adopt.
It is pretty simple: We DO experience Christ in the new birth and as we grow in maturity. The only thing is that all experience must be rooted and grounded in Scripture. "The Charismatic experience"
My fellow Christians, must we sound so hostile? Why must we insist that we "agree" as a condition of loving each other? Can we not allow others to have wisdom and possibly even insight that any one of us doesn't have? Didn't Jesus condemn the Pharisees for having zeal of rules and accuracy? We were called to be known by love, not accuracy. Of course we all should long to understand God better; but as soon as one of us thinks we understand God "best" we are really far away from him
This is non sense and stems from a blindness of heart....the christian church for whom the blood of the saints was shed was to defend and up hold the truth....what would christianity be if Arian was allowed to deny the divinity of Christ....the errors in christianity today are so severe it is over throwing the entire church into severe decay...and ignorance like the hinduistic relativism such is lets all love and be love is taking hold
> We were called to be known by love, not accuracy.
OUT WITH THE TRUTH BECAUSE ALL WE NEED IS LOVE, LOVE, LOVE - WHO CARES IF IT'S TRUE OR NOT. GOD LOVES US UNCONDITIONALLY, SO I CAN CONTINUE TO LIVE IN SIN AND STILL RECEIVE HIS LOVE BECAUSE TRUTH DOES NOT MATTER.
(I'm being totally sarcastic! How on earth does ACCURACY/TRUTH not matter?! Give me a freaking break!)
@mjperkins2 God is Holy as well as loving- Jesus spoke more on deception as a sign of His second coming than any other- if we are living in the days of strong delusion then who will stand up for the Truth of Gods wrod which people have died for over the ages- sentimentalism is not Biblical
I find it hilarious on 5:30 where he is listing the attributes of God B, the man skips over "mutuality" because as it appears he can't pronounce the word or doesn't know what it means. Now, do you honestly think I'm going to take this man's understanding of a movement serious?
I'm really not sure why you would assume either one of those things, but it's a little insensitive as English is apparently not his first language, and after listening to at least 5 minutes is that really your biggest complaint? This is a well informed, thoughtfully prepared, valid and important warning that people need to know about. As for the skipped word, he could have easily missed it in his notes, it doesn't substantially change the message, and it's not scripture. Please get real.
Dude, that's just not right. Mocking someone for mispronouncing a word is really mature - in fact if Jesus was around, he'd applaud what you're doing. Give me a damn break!
You are free to disagree with his assessment of the movement, but to say that his assessment of the movement is wrong due to ONE slip-up is a little on the ridiculous side of things...
"His assessment of the movement is wrong due to ONE slip-up...is ridiculous"....you may be a little bit more emergent than you realize. That's pretty much what alot of the emergents are saying. In that one's own interpretation is always a slip up wrong here and there. Whose really proud enough to say that they have it all figured out? That's why an open discussion is needed. Not this close-minded text ripping.
Dude I am as anti-Emergent as air is invisible, so please don't attach me to their blasphemous movement. There is a difference between inability to produce a word-type slip ups and intentionally attacking cardinal doctrines of the faith. A WORLD of difference.
By the way, how many of their books have you read? I've read quite a few - they are out to make Christianity palatable to a world which is DEAD in sin.
Isn't Christ out to make God palatable to a world which is DEAD in sin? And I mean palatable in the sense of approachable and someone when taken in as a living embodiment. (This metaphor works really well with the Eucharist.) And I had always thought that Christ's reference to being palatable was good. "You are the salt of the earth..."
And I'd be anxious to hear what cardinal doctrines of the faith the emergent movement is attacking?
To begin with, the Eucharist has nothing to do with our justification - so I fail to understand the relevance to the cancerous actions of the Emergent Church. Jesus, if you read the Gospels, said hard things, as well as parables which purposely hid the meaning from those whose hearts were hardened (e.g mankind's general disposition - Rom 3:9-20)
As to doctrinal attacks, read Bell's comments about the Bible being a merely human product (then 2 Tim 3:16-17 and 2 Pet 1:19-21). Look up Doug Pagitt's interview where he denies literal eternal conscious torment (then read Jesus' words in Luke 16:19-31). McLaren is the worst among them - continung blurring the lines between truth and error. But it's OK, right? After all, "factual certainty is an illusion", ain't it?
It seems to me..this is the crux of the problem. That you don't truly believe that salvation is by faith alone. I mean, you say that. It's a nice little creed that you wear. But you really don't believe it. Because for you, salvation seems more about a person's understanding lining up with yours."Oh, if that person doesn't believe in a literal (since when in the Bible did anything otherworldly be literal?) hell, then that person is a false teacher" Such a thought proves where your faith lies.
I got a good laugh out of that. My salvation is by grace through faith - no debate there. BUT Scripture also tells us to hold to sound doctrine. You can be saved and disagree with me - depends where your disagreement is. Some things are peripheral and open for discussion. Others are NOT - things like the existence of God, the Trinity, Scripture, etc.
I'm Baptist - I disagree with Presbyterians, but they are still my brethren, because they hold to the essentials...unlike the Emergents.
I'm a little confused. If the few things that one must hold to in order for you to consider them your brother or sister is the existence of God, the Trinity, Scripture, etc. then I don't know why you are so against the emergents because they follow these same beliefs.
The difficult thing is that you can't lump emergents together and categorize them as (fill in the blank with one customized doctrine). Rob Bell doesn't even label himself as emergent. But even with these considerations, they would all basically say that Scripture is God-breathed. That God exists. And that the Trinity is.
Redefining terms isn't negating what lies behind the terms. It's striving to come to a more perfect picture. All terms are shoddy and can become incomplete if latched onto.
"Redefining terms isn't negating what lies behind the terms" - so if I redefine gravity to the exclusion of the classic understanding of it, I'm still right? That postmodern Kool-Aid most Emergents have imbibed doesn't fly with the Word. What about their denials of hell, the penal substitutionary atonement, the inerrancy of Scripture? What about McLaren saying Mohammed had an encounter with God or his denial of a literal return of Jesus in favour of hyperpreterism?
When Newton came up with gravity he was very much redefining what was already the classic understanding of it. And that's taking into mind empirical science. How much more mysterious is theology.
Besides with the emergents who mentioned "excluding" the classic understanding of it? Bend your head around this: Maybe your hyperfundamentalism is an exclusion to the classic understanding of the gospel that existed before 1500 AD.
Well I happen to believe that you can find many of the teachings I hold to as far back as the Early Church Fathers so I don't think your case holds much weight to me.
Pray tell, did the idea of a literal return of Jesus only come around in 1500? A literal hell? The authority and sufficiency of Scripture? Doubt it...
No, I believe it holds sufficient weight. Just as the Reformation was bringing in new ways of looking at the gospel, there were those strongly opposed to it just because it was something "new". The important thing is that we don't start roasting each other on spits of fire because our understanding is different. Plus, I really don't think it's a good intelligent discussion just to hurl a bunch of accusations at the other. It sort of misses the point of the epistle of I John.
So let's take one of those accusations hurled at the emergents and actually discuss it, instead of foaming at the mouth condemning them to hell. Hey wait, that's a good start. Let's start with Hell. The literalness. But the funny thing is, you just admitted in previous posts that the existence of God, the Trinity, and Scripture are the only parts nonnegotiable. So why does my interpretation of hell have to line up with your "exact" and obviously faultless..hem, hem...interpretation?
These Emergent Church leaders are either knowingly or unwittingly tools being used to draw more people (especially Christians) into the New Age/ New Spirituality/ One World Religion.
Hay I am a fan of God B as well ! Does not the Bible state that Jesus 'upholds all things by the power of his word' in Hebrews, and this shows who inter-connected everything actually is !
This man presenting this seems full of hate !
By the way, experience is at the heart of the Bible. Abraham discovered God through experience ! The Apostle Paul discovered Jesus from hus experience ! Experience is at the heart of all meaning in Language ! John T
He claims to have the of God resting on him, the same love that God had for His Son Jesus Christ, yet proclaims "how can he not burn in hell for such apostacy." Bennett is a hypocrite. If hell is a litteral place as he obviously believes, then we shold be able to see it, because according to Christ its just outside the south wall of Jerrusalem.
I'm not sure what he's against and what he's for. His list of apostates covers a very broad spectrum -- Dallas Willard bracketed with post-modernists? Are you kidding? In any case, I found his anger and bitterness so disturbing that I couldn't persevere to the end of the tape. I'd appreciate it if someone would explain this guy to me.
Well, here's the explanation. Some people have such a concept or formula or "idol" in their minds of how God is that if something that doesn't fit inside their little formula is presented to them, than they must attack it with all they have. In the N.T. you see the Pharisees had this idea of God, but Jesus came along, very unexpectantly, and challenged their understanding. The religious leaders were enraged at this heresy and had Christ crucified. The same aggression is happening here.
i did used to have respect for the berean beacon, in many ways I still do, but what this man has spoken here has shown to me that he has not tried to understand the meaning and the context of what was said by all the people he quoted and referenced. I do not support the emergent church, there are far too many falseties within the movement. That being said, they also have a few good ideas. the emergent church may have good intentions but in general are too far deviated from the narrow path.
He is very correct about Thomas Aquinas! A great source of false and deadly ideas, proudly exalting the merely human mind. I came to the realization of Aquinas' falsehood from his effort to prove the existence of God. I know it seems ironic, but look: "Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' "" (Matt 4:7) The word 'test' here can also be translated 'prove, scrutinize, examine'. Satan tried and failed to get Jesus to do this. Praise Jesus the LORD!
It is good to unveil false theology and rebuke it, BUT when are we going to start to CHANGE something in the APPLICATION of our GOOD theology and missiology, since it is obvious that Christianity is dying in Western Europe and North America. The emerging church might be wrong theologically, but for one thing I have to give them credit, they are doing what we, the true Christians, are supposed to do - looking for new ways to express Christianity so that our western world will respond to it!
we dont need a new way to reach the lost. the way Jesus did it still works today. The Bible gives the reason why the u.s. and w. europe are dying/dead spiritually. Jer 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.---all of this searching for new ways to do things blurrs the message and gets the Church off track
True Christianity has been dead since the 2nd century, in fact it was very much dead in Asia in Pauls time, read your Bible. The reformation was just another deception from Satan, an even more insidious subtle deception. Protestantism has almost as many heresies in its doctrines and teachings as Catholasism. No wonder we have these satanic movements like the emerging Church.
Refoemation revealed one good and great ting- THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH and this is not Satinic. How will they know if a preacher is not sent and JESUS-The same Yesterday, Today and Forever.
I'm just sayin!!!
Check out my site for Excellent example of the emerging churches heretical leaders and Pentecostal Popes.
Mike Perschon's description of his spiritual closet sounded a bit out there with his 'alpha brain patterns'; I've heard of Rob Bell taking some passages of scripture & turning them into something that isn't there. But to accuse EVERYONE of being involved in evil is too much. One question: it seems like the speaker has something against being alone in silence & praying to God. What's wrong with that? Taking time to read the Word, talking to God & having a direct relationship with Him is bad? Help
This is just another attempt of Satan to reinvent and destroy Biblical Christianity, and replace it with a counterfeit! Once again, people are seeking 'experience' instead of experiencing God in coming to know Him through reading His Word!
Well exposed....Mike Perschon's description of meditative prayer or whatever he calls it, is Nothing More than Occult/New Age filth from the pit of hell.
I've done it & it's pure evil.
It's the age old techniques used to put yourself into a trance & open yourself up to the demonic realm.
direct contact with God is the promise of the new covenant and what the Holy SPirit it for.
THis has been flagrantly abused by the likes of Foster et al, but if you are going to deny such then you are pharisees that have nothing but dead letter, unbelieved doctrine, fruitless lives and an impossible law code.
you dont want direct contact with God? so you scream blue murder at those who counterfeit it, rather than have the real thing yourselves.
you are no better than they are

@Strefanasha If I may be so bold as to answer on behalf of the speaker, based on this video, my assumption is that he's not saying that we as believers should not energetically pursue a personal relationship with Christ but his concern is the METHODS by which these apostate teachers such as Doug Pagitt and Brian McLaren are achieving "direct" contact.
He's saying that using things like meditation, contemplative prayer are actually achieving contact with demons, not God.

what horrendus apostasy? all we had up to now was religious hypocrisy. WE held sound doctirne by legalist force. none of it was honest.
so we scream apostasy simply for being more honest than we were?
we hanker for a past that never was.
well? did they ever love one another?

gayfreewill I guess you are one of those that thinks God should make everything perfect in this world becasue what??? you deserve it? The rain falls on the just and unjust alike. Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. This world is in the condition that it is in because of sin. Sin that human beings commit.

Catawegmann 11 months ago
@Catawegmann I agree with your statements except I would not refer to the first century churches as "emerging" even though I know you didn't mean it that way.
That word is now forever tarnished.
In fact I'm thinking of creating a video of words that are a sure sign that false teaching is ahead... here's just a few:
1) Unleash
2) Re-imagine
3) Transformational

Where is god's love and help when calamity comes and tsunami's separate babies and screaming children from their parents arms? When 100,000 or more die in such disasters? Where was his protection of all those religious folk down south while katrina drowned many christian folks? Where is his hand when babies are born with hairlips and deformities and twins heads cojoined?
If god acts like hes's not there we should treat him like he's not there.
Oh how great the delusion. Wake up folks.

Voltaire (French Philosopher, 1694-1778) He said:
"If we believe absurdities, we shall commit atrocities."
"Every sensible man, every honorable man, must hold the Christian sect in horror."
"Nothing can be more contrary to religion and the clergy than reason and common sense."
"Christianity is the most ridiculous, the most absurd and bloody religion that has ever infected the world."
How do you like those statements beanbacon?
Gayfreewill 1 year ago
ATTENTION christians. A recent study shows that non-believers such as atheists know the bible better than you all. That is why they becaome atheists because they know how ridiculous the book is and they know the errors and contradictions. They examined it. SO when you baby christians recite scripture it shows just how infantile you are in your thinking. It reveals you as robots who are programmed with verses and that's all you use for conversation. Can you reason, or use common sense?

"In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing."

Gayfreewill 1 year ago
Religion in the world is sad. Amazing that we live in a most technilogical age yet people still believe in silly bible stories. SOme folks refuse to be educated. I say start thinging and learning about all the errors, contradictions and false prophecies in the bible. They are all online and easy to access.
Use your common sense. Religion is a virus. It is a drug and yes it makes you feel good and alters your normal state of mind. Religion is not natural. It is unnatural.

Gayfreewill 1 year ago
@Gayfreewill Well, Bible Christians are compelled to tell others about the free gift of God by faith in Jesus Christ. What people do with it is up to them as we don't to threaten with physical harm.
BereanBeacon1 1 year ago

"The Charismatic experience"
appears to be grounded in the book of Acts.

I find it hilarious on 5:30 where he is listing the attributes of God B, the man skips over "mutuality" because as it appears he can't pronounce the word or doesn't know what it means. Now, do you honestly think I'm going to take this man's understanding of a movement serious?
mrfranzheimer 3 years ago
I'm really not sure why you would assume either one of those things, but it's a little insensitive as English is apparently not his first language, and after listening to at least 5 minutes is that really your biggest complaint? This is a well informed, thoughtfully prepared, valid and important warning that people need to know about. As for the skipped word, he could have easily missed it in his notes, it doesn't substantially change the message, and it's not scripture. Please get real.

Not this close-minded text ripping.
mrfranzheimer 3 years ago

And I'd be anxious to hear what cardinal doctrines of the faith the emergent movement is attacking?
mrfranzheimer 3 years ago
To begin with, the Eucharist has nothing to do with our justification - so I fail to understand the relevance to the cancerous actions of the Emergent Church. Jesus, if you read the Gospels, said hard things, as well as parables which purposely hid the meaning from those whose hearts were hardened (e.g mankind's general disposition - Rom 3:9-20)
(tbc...)
YoungCalvinist08 3 years ago
As to doctrinal attacks, read Bell's comments about the Bible being a merely human product (then 2 Tim 3:16-17 and 2 Pet 1:19-21). Look up Doug Pagitt's interview where he denies literal eternal conscious torment (then read Jesus' words in Luke 16:19-31). McLaren is the worst among them - continung blurring the lines between truth and error. But it's OK, right? After all, "factual certainty is an illusion", ain't it?
YoungCalvinist08 3 years ago
It seems to me..this is the crux of the problem. That you don't truly believe that salvation is by faith alone. I mean, you say that. It's a nice little creed that you wear. But you really don't believe it. Because for you, salvation seems more about a person's understanding lining up with yours."Oh, if that person doesn't believe in a literal (since when in the Bible did anything otherworldly be literal?) hell, then that person is a false teacher" Such a thought proves where your faith lies.
mrfranzheimer 3 years ago
I got a good laugh out of that. My salvation is by grace through faith - no debate there. BUT Scripture also tells us to hold to sound doctrine. You can be saved and disagree with me - depends where your disagreement is. Some things are peripheral and open for discussion. Others are NOT - things like the existence of God, the Trinity, Scripture, etc.
I'm Baptist - I disagree with Presbyterians, but they are still my brethren, because they hold to the essentials...unlike the Emergents.
YoungCalvinist08 3 years ago
I'm a little confused. If the few things that one must hold to in order for you to consider them your brother or sister is the existence of God, the Trinity, Scripture, etc. then I don't know why you are so against the emergents because they follow these same beliefs.
mrfranzheimer 2 years ago
What do they believe about Scripture? The existence of God? The Trinity? I've read their writings and all they do is redefine terms.
YoungCalvinist08 2 years ago
The difficult thing is that you can't lump emergents together and categorize them as (fill in the blank with one customized doctrine). Rob Bell doesn't even label himself as emergent. But even with these considerations, they would all basically say that Scripture is God-breathed. That God exists. And that the Trinity is.
Redefining terms isn't negating what lies behind the terms. It's striving to come to a more perfect picture. All terms are shoddy and can become incomplete if latched onto.
mrfranzheimer 2 years ago

Bend your head around this: Maybe your hyperfundamentalism is an exclusion to the classic understanding of the gospel that existed before 1500 AD.
mrfranzheimer 2 years ago
Well I happen to believe that you can find many of the teachings I hold to as far back as the Early Church Fathers so I don't think your case holds much weight to me.
Pray tell, did the idea of a literal return of Jesus only come around in 1500? A literal hell? The authority and sufficiency of Scripture? Doubt it...
YoungCalvinist08 2 years ago
No, I believe it holds sufficient weight. Just as the Reformation was bringing in new ways of looking at the gospel, there were those strongly opposed to it just because it was something "new". The important thing is that we don't start roasting each other on spits of fire because our understanding is different. Plus, I really don't think it's a good intelligent discussion just to hurl a bunch of accusations at the other. It sort of misses the point of the epistle of I John.
mrfranzheimer 2 years ago
So let's take one of those accusations hurled at the emergents and actually discuss it, instead of foaming at the mouth condemning them to hell. Hey wait, that's a good start. Let's start with Hell. The literalness. But the funny thing is, you just admitted in previous posts that the existence of God, the Trinity, and Scripture are the only parts nonnegotiable. So why does my interpretation of hell have to line up with your "exact" and obviously faultless..hem, hem...interpretation?

err...actually Einstein did redefine gravity and the classic understanding of it has been challenged for half a century.

aaah!!! woe is me for i'm a sinful man and a prophecy is in fulfillment right before my own eyes!!!

we should just call this what it is "a falling away" as the apostle Paul prophesied through the Spirit!!

I'm a fan of God "B"; why's this guy advocating God "A"?
mowriter 3 years ago

I'd appreciate it if someone would explain this guy to me.
kkallebb 3 years ago
Well, here's the explanation. Some people have such a concept or formula or "idol" in their minds of how God is that if something that doesn't fit inside their little formula is presented to them, than they must attack it with all they have. In the N.T. you see the Pharisees had this idea of God, but Jesus came along, very unexpectantly, and challenged their understanding. The religious leaders were enraged at this heresy and had Christ crucified. The same aggression is happening here.

In every age, there has always emerged a religious guru.. Charles Taze Russell's Jehovah's Witnesses.
Joseph Smith, Mormons
Mary Baker Eddy, Seventh Day Adventists
Campbell, Church of Christ
L.Ron Hubbard, Scientology
Oprah Wynfrey, A New Earth
And all the Charismatics : Benny Hinn, Peter Popoff, Earnest Angely, Oral Roberts, Pat Robertson, etc...

i did used to have respect for the berean beacon, in many ways I still do, but what this man has spoken here has shown to me that he has not tried to understand the meaning and the context of what was said by all the people he quoted and referenced.

BGV777 3 years ago
we dont need a new way to reach the lost. the way Jesus did it still works today.

It's the age old techniques used to put yourself into a trance & open yourself up to the demonic realm.
i've been there, i know it's true.
