Many teachers are abusive and deny basic human rights to students. The union defends all teachers. No teacher can be fired and our children pay the price every day in the classroom.
@daveskates11 Exactly which "basic human rights" do you believe teachers deny their students. Let me take a shot in the dark here. You consider it a "human rights" matter that teachers do not allow middle school and high school students to go "potty" 14 times a day during class time. Of course, in high school, 85% of washroom requests are actually code for, "May I please stroll the halls for 15 minutes to avoid some class work, to meet up with my BFF, and peep into my friends' classrooms?"
Oh... and also, it might surprise you to learn that teachers in Ontario CAN be fired, and many have been. It might also interest you to know that teachers' unions do not hire and fire teachers. School boards do that. Unions merely ensure that all prescribed procedures are followed. This is important to prevent witch hunts, which some parents are fond of waging against unfortunate teachers. E.g. "Mrs. Smith wouldn't let my precious Bobby go pee during a test and he had to hold it for 10 minutes!"

What is worse? A criminal who has violated you sexually or this organization that allows sex offenders to teach? Shame on every teacher who supports this Union!
@Annwashere1 To which "Union" were you referring specifically. You evidently aren't aware that the Ontario College of Teachers is not a teachers' union. May I suggest you actually research matters before running your mouth? Peace, and have a wonderful day.
I agree that we need to acknowledge social media and teach netiquette. However, it's not right to integrate classroom instruction with Facebook. Keep advertisements out of our schools.
I am confused by why the media is fixated on the message "don't friend students on FB." The larger message seems to me that teachers should be using and experimenting with social media in a professional way.
Where am I?!

This is very slick , especially the insincere announcer, but it does not define "social media".
