Killing someone and changing sex are very different. They did find a genetic marker for transsexualism in October. We also have intersex people who's genes are different.

But many of them did choose to go against societal norms and express themselves in a way that society said was unacceptable for people of their race, only acceptable for whites. There was a time when women had no choice with regards to their role in society. Now they can chose whether to work or be homemakers, whether to participate in politics, etc. Many people suffered fighting for these rights, and indeed became social outcasts. Fighting for choice may make one an outcast, but is it not a noble pursuit?

There is a reason for this. Based on what we know medically, a persons sex can not be reliably determined by their sexual organs or chromosomal arrangement. The only consistent attribute is a persons brain structure. That is why the definition is so loose.

The logic behind defining gender by the presence or absence of certain body parts is flawed. I'm sure you would agree that a woman who undergoes a mastectomy would be no less of a woman. Certainly (I hope) you would also agree that a woman is more than the absence of a penis and vice versa. Also, the existence of phenotypic anomalies where an individual is inter-sexed, or has a incongruence between their genotypic and phenotypic sex kind of blows a huge hole in that idea anyway.
You are also a couple of generations behind in thought anyway. Until the early 1900's, "true sex" was determined by only examining the gonads. Then it was quite popular to use a patients chromosomal arrangement to determine their gender (despite the fact that there are more than two arrangements; there may be six or seven of them... it's late) Anyway, the point is that the brain is the only true way to determine gender.
It was an absolutely amazing week and I was apart of every event. Monday we had a discussion, Tuesday was remembering transpeople of color, Wednesday was a panel discussion from Trans-people to SOFFAs (significant others, friends, family, allies, and I was apart of it!), Thursday was a candle light vigil where names of victims and how they were killed over the years were read, and Friday an activist came to speak at our college. It was so amazing and I hope to keep it going every year.
I go to the University of Missouri. Last week, we observed our first Transgender Awareness Week. We did it last week because kids will be getting off of school this week for Thanksgiving.

A friend of mine that goes by the nickname "Kitten" recently joined that list as well. She worked with the people at the Gender Center in Sydney for 12 years or more. Unlike most people who are on the list however, she died of cancer which was deemed untreatable within days of its diagnosis. Instead of getting treatment which would have given her maybe another year, she went without it as it would have meant that she could of no longer helped the LGBT community. I miss her. :-(

I have more friends and family than I ever have. I didn't lose anyone and they are now happy that I am happy. Sex is determined during the hormone wash in the womb. Theory states that in transsexual children the testosterone that changes a fetus into a male get to to the body but not the brain due to insufficient production. All babies start off female.

I didn't say that black people chose to be black. But many of them did choose to go against societal norms and express themselves in a way that society said was unacceptable for people of their race, only acceptable for whites. They had free spirits like all human beings, and they chose to express it, even if it made them "outcasts". Transgendered people live in a way that they are told is acceptable only for people with diff physical traits than theirs they are living true to their own spirits

While I strongly disagree with your assertion that being transgendered is a choice, I find this to be an irrelevant and specious argument anyway. There was a time when women had no choice with regards to their role in society. Now they can chose whether to work or be homemakers, whether to participate in politics, etc. Many people suffered fighting for these rights, and indeed became social outcasts. Fighting for choice may make one an outcast, but is it not a noble pursuit?

I am still waiting for a logical argument and I have yet to hear one. We use surgery and medication to correct quite a few things and yet you can't wrap you little head around this one.

I am not intersexed. You do realize that appearance is NOT always dictated by chromosomes and SOMETIMES appearance is very different than what the chromosome is telling the body to do. Genes are not the be all end all and so your intersexed argument falls flat on it's face.

Nerosurgeons have confirmed the brains of transsexuals are more similar to genetic women also as you yourself has stated they have found a gene for transsexualism. Science has proved you are not 100% male, your brain is clearly female. By logic this would make you an intersexed person. Body of a male, brain of a female. Kind of unique actually. The logic behind defining gender by the presence or absence of certain body parts is flawed. I'm sure you would agree that a woman who undergoes a mastectomy would be no less of a woman. Certainly (I hope) you would also agree that a woman is more than the absence of a penis and vice versa. Also, the existence of phenotypic anomalies where an individual is inter-sexed, or has a incongruence between their genotypic and phenotypic sex kind of blows a huge hole in that idea anyway.

You are also a couple of generations behind in thought anyway. Until the early 1900's, "true sex" was determined by only examining the gonads. Then it was quite popular to use a patients chromosomal arrangement to determine their gender (despite the fact that there are more than two arrangements; there may be six or seven of them... it's late) Anyway, the point is that the brain is the only true way to determine gender.

It was an absolutely amazing week and I was apart of every event. Monday we had a discussion, Tuesday was remembering transpeople of color, Wednesday was a panel discussion from Trans-people to SOFFAs (significant others, friends, family, allies, and I was apart of it!), Thursday was a candle light vigil where names of victims and how they were killed over the years were read, and Friday an activist came to speak at our college. It was so amazing and I hope to keep it going every year.

I go to the University of Missouri. Last week, we observed our first Transgender Awareness Week. We did it last week because kids will be getting off of school this week for Thanksgiving.

I don't know why it only recently occurred to me. I think that most of us are too caught up in ourselves to REALLY think about others even when we mean well.
It's got to be frustrating. It's always about how you look and not about what's inside. It should be the other way around. I suppose being transgendered naturally shines the spotlight on aesthetics. Ironic- we are ALL so much more.

A friend of mine that goes by the nickname "Kitten" recently joined that list as well. She worked with the people at the Gender Center in Sydney for 12 years or more. Unlike most people who are on the list however, she died of cancer which was deemed untreatable within days of its diagnosis. Instead of getting treatment which would have given her maybe another year, she went without it as it would have meant that she could of no longer helped the LGBT community. I miss her. :-(
