I dont agree with some people saying that perming you hair makes you want to be white. Have you ever tried to take care of natural hair? It is so hard. I've told my mom so many times that perms are just another way to assimilate into European ideals (because I, too, used to think that) and she just stared at me and said no. She had natural hair all through college and law school and said it took SO long to style and look good (it was an afro). Permed hair is just easier and I'm still 100% black

I dont agree with some people saying that perming you hair makes you want to be white. Have you ever tried to take care of natural hair? It is so hard. I've told my mom so many times that perms are just another way to assimilate into European ideals (because I, too, used to think that) and she just stared at me and said no. She had natural hair all through college and law school and said it took SO long to style and look good (it was an afro). Permed hair is just easier and I'm still 100% black

And yes there is this idea that "nappy" hair is "ugly" and "soft" hair isn't, which is a very old idea and has come from slave days. You're more likely to be part white if you have "good hair", according to their view. Of course some white people naturally have "nappy" hair and east Africans, 100% black, have fine curly hair. It duzn't come across like they are tryin to be anything other than what they are, they just add length and body to a hair type that is already natural to them. Black women, when wearing weave, usually opt for "that brazillian hair" or say "i'm wearing Indian hair". It's hardly ever a hair type that matches their own. @ScreamxxRadio It's not so much weaving as it is the perms (some do it to toddlers, and we know early chemical exposure--like relaxing--is linked to a LOT of neurological issues,some that become behavioral). Because of the "kitchen" where the new baby hair grows in, people perm so often they do as much damage often by the time they are 35 as a year of bleaching can do; the damage is *different* but it doesn't make it better. The weave is pure wear & tear, *hair* damage, perm/relax *organ*damage.

I agree with everything you said. It is definitely a toxic mind state and bleaching will not solve your problems. BUT I just want to clear up what "skin bleaching" really is.You don't actually burn your skin, You temporarily stop the production of melanin in your skin. Once the top layer of your skin sloths off either naturally or chemical, a new brighter skin emerges. Its dangerous because melanin protects us from UV radiation and constant usage makes us vulnerable to skin cancer.

Anyways, in either case, skin bleaching is most def. not acceptable. Be proud of your dark skin. Be proud of your pale skin. It's all beautiful :)

And lol on the mary massacre thing that is so true! I take a look at her videos (which she probably still edits color on) and compare them to her pics and I think to myself "hmm, how does this chick go from black to white?" and she denies ever doing that kind of stuff. Then it just pisses me off when she says she wants to support black, mixed, and hispanic scene kids that have darker skin like her.

Dude Amen! You just took the words right out of my mouth. I agree with you 100%. I have had an experience like this before with my own sister. Out of my whole entire siblings they all came out darker complected and I came out light. I remember one day my sister and I were talking and then out of no were she was like "your so lucky I wish I was as light as you". It's sad really, but then again we have to remember that most people are brainwashed on what "beauty" is.
