  • BTW, I wanted to say thanks for your tip. We took a bottle of sweet white wine, which was perfect for the FOUR different FISH dishes that were served :-D What a fabulous meal - I only had a sampling of everything. I know the wife spent the whole day cooking for us. The wife then told me of a superstition they have of leaving the left-overs out on the table, with a spoon or fork, for the dead relatives to come and taste after everyone has gone to bed. (spooky)

  • sorry, I just saw your question, hope it's not too late to reply! Yes, you should absolutely bring a gift -- traditionally a gift of flowers (an odd number of flowers only), chocolate, or champagne / wine are the best gifts. Have fun, and don't fill up on the first course, there will likely be many!

  • We've been invited to a Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner. Here in the U.S. we say "can I bring something". However when I asked that of our Ukrainian friends they always say "no". What's traditional in Ukraine? Should I bring a gift? candy? flowers? ??? Thank You!
