While I certainly appreciate and have a soft spot for other famous singers with their own unique strengths, Barbra Streisand always be my vocalist numero uno. So, so glad I've gotten to hear her voice in my lifetime.

Notice how it took about 50 seconds for her to warm up into the performance and the song- she has always said she sang higher when her stagefright was hitting her, then she would get comfortable and relax, and the Barbra we love and idolize would come forth to dazzle us.

Compare this performance to the June, 1963 Ed Sullivan performance (here on YouTube)- her 1963 version is so much stronger, so much more emotional and stronger- probably because her stagefright hadn't hit her yet, and she wasn't yet singing 8 performances of "Funny Girl" on Broadway. What a difference 2 years makes. But they're both incredible, indelible performances- noone in the last part of the twentieth century compares to Barbra. We are honored to witness this gift.

Thing is with truly great singers, no 2 performances are EXACTLY alike! I love all her early stuff. No recording tricks, no fakey overdubs etc all of which even Barbra fell vivtim to as years went by to try and remain current. This early music is the pure talent which is RARELY seen today.

I love how at the end of the performance she has to take a moment to compose herself and catch her breath. This is true singing...when you give every inch of your soul to expressing the emotion of a song. Barbra is one of a kind, a truly masterful vocalist. This gave me goosebumps!
