I used to have to deal with shoplifters all the time at a big store and this is not new. Part of the reason why you don't want to let them up is because 99% of the time, they will run and then you have nothing. Plus, other shoplifters hear about it and you get a reputation of being an easy target. I don't know what happened here but if you end up holding someone down that hard, you probably have a good reason. Lets not defend a shoplifter if that is what he is.

Auxiliary Cops can only make an arrest if "A FELONY" is committed in their presence. Shoplifting is a misdemeanor. Security guards are not allowed to put their hands on people..Especially if the shoplifter is outside the store. Only security guards with "Special Patrolmen" status are allowed to touch and arrest people.

When exactly Did he Kick or punch him? I've watched the video through a couple times and have seen nothing other then them trying to detain a suspected shoplifter. No punches were thrown and the suspect appeared to attempt to kick the guy in black twice.
Stores need a much better security system. Because many people who look like they steal don't actually steal. A person can look like a thief and not be one. When I actually see theft then I detain the individual based upon probable cause and if the suspect is uncooperative he or she gets detained until the evidence is found. If approached correctly an individual suspected can be asked to show a receipt and he or she doesnt have one further questioning until they are guilty or innocent

@TwoHands777 alot of us have extensive training and alot more then that of your regular mall cop. In my state it is a law that you have to have your state security license to do loss prevention and I have interrogation training from the state peace officer academy.
@TwoHands777 I paid $430 for the interrogation training course alone and me and my guys are required by our company to get close combat training certification within 6 months of being with the company. That combat training was $1,200 by itself, So no we actually have more rights then the average citizen. Where I am from the police actually respect us and dont treat us like security guards because we have the same training their academy teaches.

He got off rather easily compared to what happened to a male who was caught shoplifting at my parent's store. My mother witnessed the theft and locked him inside the store. When he attempted to break a window in order to escape I assisted my brother in tossing him on the floor and then I basically got to squash him until the police arrived.

Stores need a much better security system. Because many people who look like they steal don't actually steal. A person can look like a thief and not be one. Thats the problem with many security guards. Many don't have evidence. And if you don't have evidence how can you make the arrest. Security guards and stores that they work for need a better system well at least the drugmart that I shopped at. Acussing a person of stealing drives business away

A cop will treat a black person the same as he would treat a white person. Enough of this racist "police brutality" shit. Sure some cops are crooked and use brutality, but when one does, he is prosecuted like anyone else, don't worry about that. But here an officer is doing his job. If you were a cop putting your life on the line every single day, not knowing if the person you're trying to arrest has weapons or is violent, you would take the same precautions, trust me.

Auxiliary police can only arrest when in uniform and when instructed by a commissioned NYPD officer. It is against protocol to wear the badge if not in uniform.

If I see you steal then you have every right. but I don't see you steal you can't do that. Thats wrong. And until it happens to you many of you don't know how it feels. Security gurads and stores need a better security system that actually zero's in on someone actually stealing. that way a Drug Mart security guard can't accuse anyone of stealing.

When I actually see theft then I detain the individual based upon probable cause and if the suspect is uncooperative he or she gets detained until the evidence is found. If approached correctly an individual suspected can be asked to show a receipt and he or she doesnt have one further questioning until they are guilty or innocent

IF the LPO identified himself properly w/his badge and id and the suspect ran he COULD atttept to detain him ... A proper LPO though would use restraints and try to get the suspect back in the store. And do u know how many play the ur hurting me or someone help me card ...

You said he was resisting. i explained why. also the LPO has no more rights than the average civilian therefore this suspect has the right to charge him with assault. @TwoHands777 alot of us have extensive training and alot more then that of your regular mall cop. In my state it is a law that you have to have your state security license to do loss prevention and I have interrogation training from the state peace officer academy.

That combat training was $1,200 by itself, So no we actually have more rights then the average citizen. Where I am from the police actually respect us and dont treat us like security guards because we have the same training their academy teaches.

You just need to say why you are arresting them for example "I am detaining you on suspicion of shoplifting.... then say the caution" most of the time you dont get to finish the caution as they run off!! at which point you can restrain and detain until police arrive using minimal force. If your worng expect your arse to be sued for false arrest!!

He got off rather easily compared to what happened to a male who was caught shoplifting at my parent's store. My mother witnessed the theft and locked him inside the store. When he attempted to break a window in order to escape I assisted my brother in tossing him on the floor and then I basically got to squash him until the police arrived.
