  • Acker Bilk is the BEST

  • What's the name of this solo??

  • i hope i get to this level oneday without the damn squeaks lol

  • @pikachops haha same here bro

  • You are awesome. I took lessons from Jerry Stowell, 2nd chair in the Chicago Symphony in the late 1950's.

  • what and no squecks

  • I play clarinet. she is really good.

  • @vinnothelizard i wouldnt say that unless uve played over 30 or 20 yrs but clarinet isnt easy u have to know how to do flat sharps good articulation good embouchure and tons of other hard things

  • @vinnothelizard Actually No, Clarinet is not as easy as you think it is ,you need to know how to read sheet music, move your fingers in a miraculous fashion , and also learn shortcuts, accidentals , laggato , staggato , I play clarinet, and have for 5-6 years, and still dont know how to do everything on my instrument, if its so easy, do it yourself.

  • @corasingsbad So true... I played the clarinet for 6 years and I'm trying to pick it up again. But it took me years and years of practice to get to a good level. It's not an easy instrument to play, but it sure is fun!

  • @corasingsbad well no shit its the same with every instrument.

  • Superb. Interesting acoustics too.

  • This is So astonishing!

  • @ippokratis94 that a clarinet actually doesnt sound like crap for once?

  • @gayhorseseathaaay i think u watch to much spongebob

  • @MixMasterTheBomb im in an actual band and the clarinets are terrible. even the ones who do play it right. clarinet really just sounds crappy all the time.

  • very nicee :)

  • 1 chair 1st band clarinetist. She just roflpwned me.

  • Not trying to be mean or anything but, am I the only one who think she has no emotion in her playing?

Also, this piece is way to diminished, they are some pretty parts but then right afterward it's ruined by nasty placed notes.

I couldn't even get a feeling out of this song, what's it supposed to be?

    Sad? Scary?

  • @TeddyBaca As the performer of this piece, I respectfully agree with you. I appreciate your honesty. I performed this 3 and a half years ago as an undergrad in college and as a 21-year-old college student, I still had not fully learned how to convey emotion in my playing, especially in a live performance setting.

The piece is entitled "Arlequin", which is a French clown/jester, so the mood of the piece is playful and jovial.

  • i play clarinet in 1st and so far i cant play that.. great!

  • I am the best in the band and I dont even am close to her

  • impresive

  • I love how she does "Arlequin" so well. She has such way with talent. I play the clarinet, too, so that, I want to practice that.♥

  • Bullshit aside, i felt nothing listening to this. But excellent work. Bravo.

  • HOLY SHIT. damn girl, you're talented. I envy how fast your fingers move. AND how amazingly clean the transitions are!!

  • I play the clarinet and Im am 1st chair and I dont sound this good!

  • Abosultely wonderful!

  • Wonderful! I Use to Play! Lovely!!

  • mmmm you play good but that is not the original version in december i play the arlequin,i record that concert, good sound =)

    Thanks for the video !!

  • its wonderfull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Really great! I can't wait till I can play like this!

  • This isn´t a wooden reed , is it ?

  • u rok!!! this is amazing!!!

  • thats so cool i play clarineteand i had to play that for a sola compitition

  • You are good :) Excellent tone!

  • muy buen sonido.

  • lol, i play the clarinet but i can't play that good

  • i play the clarinet too and hope to be this good too

  • Omg She's amazing and beautiful.. oh ye and her clarinet playing is good too

    xD

  • my clarinet teacher is EXTREMELY GOOD

    sounds like this

    im lucky to have him

  • who is your clarinet teacher?

  • excellent! I play the clarinet too but not nearly that good.

  • Nice Job! are you using a strap and microphone? I probably listened about 20-30 time by now. Probably fun to go faster but I think I like it best at the speed you took it.

  • This is amazing!!

  • wot grd is this piece its excellent :D

  • It's a very pretty solo, and a good preformance. :)

  • She is so beautiful... this is amazing. im in high school an di play clarinet and i gotta do a solo. i need help.

  • but where would it hook on to?

  • Sorry.... this is a bit slow lol

  • it's all about interpretation.

unaccompanied solos give the performer more artistic liberties.

  • Yeah... except taking it so slow, I fall asleep. Besides, this piece isn't too hard. Have your liberties. Have your slows, but have your fasts as well. Cahusac was a showman, and this is a clown piece. Play it like that.

  • I am in love :)

  • This is very good, I can't believe that so many comments have been devoted to the question of neckstrap or not. I've been been playing clarinet for 15 years and I don't use a neckstrap, just because i've got used to the weight and my technique hasn't suffered.

I haven't heard this piece before and you've inspired me to go and buy the music so I can learn it! Have you got any more clarinet videos?

  • oh no wonder. florida state is amazing for clarinet players. this is beautiful, keep up the great work! do you want to be a performer or teacher?

  • AMAZIN!

  • i wear a neckstrap..big deal. my wrists hurt and i dont wanna deal with carpal tunnel in the future.

anyways..wow this is amazing! who is this and what was the recital for? a college performance?

  • Thanks for the nice comment! This was a Friday afternoon performance for the School of Music at the University of Florida. I was a junior when this was filmed and now I'm currently a grad student at Northern Illinois University. Glad you liked it!

  • Hey wow you sound awesome

how long have you been playing??

    And yeah neckstaps are cool

don't listen to those immature players!!

  • thanks! I have been playing for 11 years. I'm glad you enjoyed the performance.

  • how would a neckstrap attack to the clarinet?

  • You can buy it,affcourse.

  • i play ten years know and i wear a neckstrap to , it gives a better sound i think and less pressure on the thumb and more agility and speed to your fingers xxx nice playing ;)

  • can you buy clarinet neckstraps?!

  • try to play sevdah sometimes, and you wil find out how diep does it go

  • very nice

  • Very interesting performance

  • Thank you to everyone for all the nice comments!

Not many people know this, but I'm actually playing on a Legere reed, which is made from synthetic materials. Some call it a plastic reed. I'm interested in knowing if anyone can tell I'm not playing on a cane reed.

  • Hi there! you play beautifully. I have just started to play clarinet about 5 months ago, I use a plastic reed too becuse I am allergic to cane reeds, my plastic reed doesn't sound as good as this though, why do you use a plastic one?

    Take care

    xxx

  • Very awesome :)

  • ooooooo UF!!!

I'm hopefully going there and majorin in music.

    nice performace

  • Great Solo

  • omg u rock girl How long have u been playin???

  • hy you have id or email yahoo...send your adress ..I;am clarinetist from Romania

  • I saw you when you performed in the clarinet ensemble when I was at All-State. Amazing. I hope to join you guys in the Kansas City trip over the summer.

  • neck strap for clarinet? weird...- good job tho :-)

  • Yeah, lots of people wear them because of tendonitis.....like me, for instance. Anyway, great job, Marjorie, you're really good. :)

  • i play clarinet and i wear a neck strap too!..they really do work!!...go nerds!! lol

  • It is possible for people to have thumb problems that are out of their control. Much like people with scoliosis can't control the pain in their back, many can't control the pain in their thumb(s). My thumb tends to hurt when I play clarinet for an extended period of time, and I don't know why, but I haven't exactly found comfortable relief.

  • thank you...someone who understands.

  • if you let your hands soak in warm water 15 mins before you play, they should be more relaxed. afterwards, the pain should be delayed if not completely gone. I also recommend using proper moisturizers to sort of comfort the skin (as sometime you may stretch in an awkward way while playing). I hope this helps!

  • it just doubles as the worlds best necklace ;)

    Great Job :D

  • Not wimpy. Just like getting carpel tunnel from repeated motions, you can get the same thing from extensive practicing. The strap allows for greater dexterity also. If your thumb is "doing all the work" your hand movement is restricted. Besides think about it, a pro level clarinet, such as a Buffet R13 is quite heavy compared to others. all that weight is sitting on one tiny bone.

  • Any device to take pressure off of the thumb/hand is good, not "wimpy"

  • if you attended live performances instead of sitting around and watching youtube videos, you would notice that many professional clarinetists use neckstraps. Our hands and thumbs may not hurt after one practice, but after practicing 3 hours every day of the week, injuries can develop (ie: tendonitis, carpal tunnel).

Our clarinet professor was in the New York Philharmonic for 20 years and uses a neckstrap. Should I tell him you think he's wimpy?

  • I'm not a big fan of unaccompanied pieces but, I really like your tone. =)

  • I'm the one playing in the video. Thank you all for the very nice comments. In response to the neckstrap question, I'm playing on a BG elastic neckstrap. I use it to relieve tension in my arms and hands and it works great. It also gives me more control in my fingers. I highly recommend using one for both technical facility and the prevention of longterm injuries such as tendinitis and carpel tunnel.

  • She appears to be using a neck strap. (Not that there's anyting wrong with that) If so, what is she using and how did she come to use it. (I'm experimenting with them myself and I'm looking for info.)

  • Hi Bstuts, I play the clarinet too. I've played for about nine years (I got my Bachelor's at Bishop's and I'm at Western now), I just started using a neck strap last summer, and I recommend using an elastic neck strap at first, and moving up to a rigid one when you feel you need more support than an elastic strap provides. The only problem with a rigid strap is that it's more restrictive than elastic one, so if you move a lot while playing, it might not be for you.

  • arliquin by Louis Cahuzac. The piece can be interpreted a bunch of ways. Its alot of fun!

  • Shes pretty damn good, AND good damn pretty

  • LOL!!! That comment just made my evening. Good damn pretty...HA. I LOVE IT. (on topic) I enjoyed your playing. I also enjoyed the piece. I love pieces that sound random, but musical at the same time.

  • very good. very good. ... is the auditorium empty?

  • nope, there are people sitting in the back. i was taping towards the front..

  • Shes pretty dang good. Ill give her that. And coming from a clarinet player who never gets less than first chair in anything he does, its quite a compliment.

  • And also the most modest clarinet player who has ever lived.

  • Thank you for that.

  • what clarinet is she playing on?

  • a Buffet R13 Bb clarinet

  • @UFxKevin I'v got the same type xp

  • good

  • wow how old is she?

  • damn, she fine.

  • whats the title of this nice piece of music?

great job, best greatings Tom (clarinetist)
