Guys, this is a shot in the dark, but I think this EP was made using FL Studio. He never likes to talk much about his software, and he did say once how he would use fruity loops if he could. I believe he said he would use just about anything in his reach to make music, and I find it interesting that this EP never evolved further than it did, also, it's called pattern + grid world. hm
Its gotten to the point where no matter what the beat sounds like, if Flying Lotus did it everyone jocks it. Flying Lotus is one of my favorite producers, but this beat is whack.
@KamKomissioner his aunt was john coltrane's wife so he was brought up around a very musically inclined family. And im not necesarilly saying he studies music but whatever he is doing creates very complex sounds with a lot of jazz influences
@thephan1113 oh, i thought you meant it was possible somehow to be able to know if something was made w/ theory in mind just by listening to it. because i personally have listened to (non-)theoretically accurate pieces and can't really tell the difference.
@Dschaylizy How in the world is this even remotely close to "Dilla influenced". Point me to a single track of Dilla's that sounds anything like this.
Not really mad at you per-se, but I'm so sick of people saying Fly-Lo sounds like Dilla, especially this late in his career. Maybe 5 or 6 years ago you had a point, but nothing he's making now sounds like Dilla, not even a little bit.
@arise257 i agree with you generally, because i know what you mean. flylo really sounds different but i said this because he used samples in this song dilla already used too. maybe the word influenced is wrong but flylo def. trys to give dilla a lil hommage here, in my eyes.
@Dschaylizy What track is that? The closest I could think of is "Step Up", which Busta rhymed over. Most of his stuff just isn't this electronic and frantically-paced.
@arise257 i thought it's on champion sound by jaylib, because i remember madlib raps on the beat. but it's a "demo" song, so it's rare and unofficial. and it should appear on jay's beat tapes somewhere.
The tracks from this EP were definitely made around the same time as Cosmogramma... FlyLo said in an interview that he made about 5-6 tracks around the same time as Computer Face, all with the same kind of energy, I think this EP consists of those tracks.
Yeah I'm getting that vibe as well from it which is good because I reckon Cosmogramma was a brilliant set out album everything was smooth and yet mellow for the moment.

1st. thanks for putting this up. even though if you're tech saavy and know where to search, these tracks are nothing new. but not everybody is as such. so maybe this is moreso for them than for me. i have almost 5gb of flylo on my media player. but thanks nonetheless. it's from people like you that i got my 5gb of flylo. and a ?, why do these seem like left-off tracks from los angeles and cosmogramma> something to think about...
@per4mnc100 they sound nothing like that these are all experimental drum an bass tracks cosmogramma was an experimental space jazz album and flylo wasn't on this level when he was doing la but i could see why you would say that he used some similar sounds
