They had just converted those big ass boilers into a size of a barrel or a propan tank at late 1918 and beginning of 1920s, they could made Steam engine extremely powerful and smaller
Hello Shipwright, Yes there has.I recommand joining a local M/E society. You will need a lathe and milling machine +silver soldering gear and a load of smaller tackle..It takes me about 4to5 years to build a T/E -- I have 45+years of experiance and all the tackle to do the job,so it is not a short term activity. You may have to spend £1000+ to equipe a workshop.
Say, does anybody know where I can find some resources (books, dvds, etc)on building something like this. I admit I don't have a lathe, or much of a machine shop, but I'd like to try my hand at building a miniature steam tractor, having already built a locomotive from a kit.....How hard can it be, given enough time?
Hello, The answer to your question is impossible. You have no lathe, milling machine or pedastal drill, welding or brazing tackle, and very little knowlidge or experiance on how to use them Can you read drawings ? and where will you get them,if you could can you re-draw them to a miniature size you wish to build. Can you make patterns? Some of the original engine still exsits in Canada, but any information you would want is almost nil.
@alberthsell I think there's been a slight mis-communication here. I'm not intending to build that particular steam crawler, I'm just looking to build something powered by steam to go riding around on just for the sheer hell of doing so. I've got a welder as well as a garage full of tools, and a lot of salvageable material to work with, but no lathe...
So, can you offer this poor beginner any help?
Brendan O.
P.S. "Impossible" and "can't" don't exist, so far as I am concerned.
Hello fangus, Yes as you say pretty cool,no good for roud runs but for people standing by it passes so slowly they see almost everything conserned. Albert

Alll I am going to say to you Richierich1285 is that the best part of you passed down the loo last time you sat on it.
You apparently have no brain power or you would appreciate the amount of skill the gent who built the engine has.

so you started it up an let it run by its self where it can hit shit

This engine was produced by a Model Engineer from his own drawings and patterns, they have not been put out to other users.
