  • Why didn't sing in their language at the Eurovision, maltese must be proud of their first semitic natural language?

  • actually we thought of sending Joe Demicoli to the Eurovision, but for some people it is useless. if we do go for eurovision next year I would suggest a Maltese Song so all Maltese can have a laugh XD

  • I'm Assyrian and I'm pretty familiar with how Arabic should sound...this (Maltese) doesn't sound anything like Arabic

  • Urdu sounds nothing like Sanskrit, but it comes from Sanskrit. Same here.

  • WOW , I can understand its just like Arabic

    6سنين ورا

  • No you can't unless you study it,because Maltese is totally different from Arabic.Perheps some few words but not all.

    'hsibthom se jissuttawni bil-bajd'!!!! =D

  • lolz!and Maltese comes from Arabic Italian and English coz of all the ppl that ruled Malta in the old days!and our culture was very affected by the knights of st john so we have more European influence than African's!

  • Atcually Malta doesn't have anything African about it.

Malta past is Semitic: Phoenician, Arab and Jewish. The knights came and subdued the population and engraved their brains shame of their Semitic past.

  • LOOL I ddn't know Colonel Qaddafi was a famous singer in Malta!

Maltese sounds like colliqual Arabic (Tunisian), I like who they Arabize the Latin verbs we do the same in Arabic street dialects.

i hate d maltese language even tho i am half malti! i still use it tho!

  • Wow!!

How could this be considered an independent language?!!

This IS Arabic but with a very bad accent...

  • Yep, slightly different

  • You're totally wrong! Maltese is a different language than Arabic, it sees is basis in Classic Arabic which is highly influenced by Italian and even more Sicilian words. It's a language written in the Latin form. SO NO Maltese is not Arabic and Arabic is not Maltese.

  • but in maltese language you use many arabic words , and i can understand sometimes what about speak the people

  • Yes it is. It is a dialect of Arabic. Linguistic research proved it. If it is written in Latin script it does not prevent it from being Arabic. Turkish is written in Latin script but it is a turkik language. We can use any alphabet to write a language. Arabic is a great language and Maltese is like other spoken arabic spoken dialects is the result of culture contact and it is very similar to Tunisian Arabic. The basic structure of Maltese is like Arabic and not like Latin.

  • Yep, you're right. Maltese is derived from Siculo-Arabic - a dialect of Arabic spoken in Sicily for over 500 years. It's similar to Maghreb Arabic (spoken in North Africa). However, Maltese has been changed a lot over the centuries, so it now contains a lot of words similar to Sicilian-Italian.

  • Maltese is an independent language, although was derived from Arabic, and Arabic is derived from Syriac.

  • 4 yohanun

XIZ ZOBB JIPURTANA AHNA IL MALTIN

  • And that means?

  • Maltese is a sialect of Arabic.Even though it written in Latin it doesn't prevent it from being semitic.Giving an example of this is the turkish language.ARABIC IS DERIEVED FROM ARABIC AND DIALECT OF ARABIC.Sorted.Daqshekk hu.

  • "A language is a dialect with an army and navy".

  • true

  • That was fucking hilarious!! Not so much because of what he was saying....ghax bil-malti kiennet! Ive been to malta twice but born in Australia, so things in maltese are a rarity here and as a result, very funny! This is from Xarabank? My mother who has never been will wet her pants! Miskina!

  • Tunisian Arabic came from Bedouin Adnani opposed to the Yemeni dialects in Algeria and Maroc.

Malta was settled by Tunisians (Aghlabids), today Tunisian is different because Banu Hillal invaded Tunisia in the 1050s. and Malta ironically enough preserved Bedouins words! more than North Africa.

  • Maltese and North African Arabic also has Canaanite influence: Phoenician which is very hard to trace, because its very similar to Arabic.

  • But isn't Adan part of Yemen? Are you saying that Tunisian Arabic is different from Moroccan and Algerian Arabic?
