people keep saying that L should have stayed in the series, but he couldnt. If L didnt die, he and kira would still have been locked in their duel. The battle would be too prolonged, in order to keep the characters concistent and story intense, Lhad to die

While it is pretty messed up that L died, without that death, it would've been impossible to present Mello and Near in the story. Mello was extremely badass and Near was just awesome...especially when he told off Light at the end...though Light never should've lost in the first place. Thanks Mikami!

The whole point was of the entire series was light being Kira and L trying to figure it out. The series would be nothing with out L because there would be no obstical for Kira and it would all be to easy for him. Killing L and replacing L with someone just like him was pretty much pointless, so why kill him in the first place? I think L should have stayed even though someone had to die :(
