For those of you who really want to keep data secure: Buy a USB flash drive. If you need to download something really private, just get out your flash drive and put it there. For something in which you can trust someone with, store it on the cloud. I hope to buy this as my laptop for portable computing. For productivity, I will use one of the web apps. Of course, there is no way I'm using this as my MAIN PC :)
Can you Edit\Store Video on this? what about new age games???
google and Verizon are slowly taking over the Internet and they will eventually regulate everything involving downloads\uploads,Data Speed, and viewing content.......good bye internet free speech!
oh this is getting really scary... I don't trust somebody else with my data! For a number of reasons!! The cloud is a dreadful, dreadful idea, it's akin to bolshevism.
When did the Google chrome pilot program start? I'm guessing recently, due to the date of your video, but i was wondering when it started to see what chances i had to get one after applying for the pilot program.
@TheGeneralTV1 Correct started the day I posted this video. They're giving out about 60,000 of them so I would definitely still apply if you wanted to.
@TechTechManTV I signed up on Dec 7th, and received my CR-48 "Mario" notebook today. It was a complete shock. I received no confirmation at all about my acceptance into the program. Setup was a breeze, but I have all ready discovered the limitations of this device. Couldn't ask for a better internet device, but that's it's limitation. I'm using it right now, but don't expect to do anything that's not on? in? the "cloud".
I just applied for the CR-48 and would like to ask some questions. When did you apply and how long did it take? Did they contact you before you received the cr-48. If so how did they contact you. I noticed people are placing videos on youtube giving an argument why they should be in the pilot program, is this necessary
According to engadget, this takes 15-20 seconds to come up from a cold boot. My PC takes 30-40 seconds.
Let's see.....a maximum of 20 extra seconds for a full fledged desktop/tv/gaming/pc replacement vs. shitty web oriented OS....wow what a tough choice!
@sulhaq If you lost your full fledged computer and it falls into the wrong hands you are dead! Your entire life will be in their hands. If you lost your Chrome Computer, you are safe, your online identity (data, passwords, applications, etc. etc.) are safely hidden in the cloud, provided of course you protect your online name and password combination.
@zekigpr Another thing: The Chrome Computer should be dirt cheap, so you may buy a bundle of them for the same price. If one breaks down, just grab another and keep on computing. Plus, your service provider may give you one for free, provided, of course you sign a one or two year contract!
@zekigpr I can't speak for anyone else, but to me at least, this is an extremely weak argument. There are many other solutions available to secure your data. Encryption is one. Remotely disabling the machine as soon as it connects to the Internet is another. There are countless others.
They may not be as proficient as moving your entire storage online, but at least I, and many others, would sacrifice that for full OS functionality.
@sulhaq A careful, security conscious end user should be able to secure his computer without great difficulty. But for a careless end user, there should be a login process to generate an unbreakable password, Chrome or not. The big thing about the chrome computer is that it should be a dirt cheap, buy by the dozen, replaceable computer. You lost/broke one, no problem, just get another one, log in and keep on working, that is its main selling point. It lives or dies on that.
When they are ready, do you really think these laptops will be able to compete with hardcore PCs running Windows 7, and with MacBooks??? And will the laptops have dedicated graphics cards???
Yes, but I was wondering if you can add more MBs to the 100 in the contract by paying some more money each month to Verizon to help the economy and don't get a 1000$ bill at the end of the month, because with my mobile phone I use much more than 100/MB month so I can't imagine what that would be with a computer
@fishgish509 Tell him this: IT IS THE MOST USED WEB BROWSER OUT THERE!?!?! ITS LIKE PIE AND COOKIES MIXED THATS HOW GOOD IT IS!!!!???? I WILL DIE AND TURN INTO A UNICORN IF YOU DONT LET ME!!!!!!!!!111!!!!ONE11~~~!!!!! >:(.....Just sayin' :D
