Hey Love your videos they are greatly appreciated and you are well spoken, where the viewer can really get used to your lessons :D
I have set everything up the same way, and have logged into the domain etc, however when my DHCP IP is given out the clients dont have access to the internet... they get IP's but no internet access... any thoughts? I tried to twitter you, is there an email I can reach you at?
@darwing36 Thanks for the comments!! Sorry about the twitter thing, I seem to fall behind on keeping up with the twitter replies, etc. I will shoot you a PM here on YouTube with my email if you prefer. I would say the problem you might be having might be related to either your DHCP scope options are not set to hand out the proper Default Gateway (router) IP address, or the wrong / missing DNS server IP addresses. Hope that gets you started in the right direction.
@PCAddictsLive@PCAddictsLive LOL I had figured it out and came back on to tell you what I had done, and you already replied! LOL it had to do with my DNS lookups + re-did scopes and that worked.. there is still an error for my DNS logging, but ill have to try to fix that another time because clients are using... can you do a video or send information on the DNS lookups ?
Hi, I joined my domain sucessfully, setup the DHCP server just like you did, but on my client machine which is under the DC and AD, it's not getting Default gateway nor DNS when I ipconfig it. However, I have two network cards in my server, first one is for my WAN and second one is for local area network and I made sure the WAN network card was uncheched under the action-add/remove binding. Thanks
I got this error when i tried to install in DHCP server: "Attempt to configure DHCP Server failed with error code 0x80074E66. The DHCP Service could not contact Active Directory". Any ideas?
@PCAddictsLive My DHCP server is on the same virtual machine running windows 08 R2. I did exactly like your video tutorials. I tried to add another machine running windows 7 enterprise to the domain, but it could not find the domain. Please advise.
Is there a specific setting for virtualbox itself to get each computer to recognize their both on the same network? I tried using internal only adapter and having them on the same network, but doesn't appear to work, any suggestions?
@QuickMirror Yes, in the end, I just use "Bridge" so the VMs will be on the same network as my home. If you wanted to do something like a completely separate "test" network, you might have to add an adapter to all VMs and have one nat, and the other bridge (or something like that, I can't remember exactly).
@PCAddictsLive Ok thanks, I'll try your suggestion. I was looking to do just a test network with one adapter, but have them use the same network I'm on for internet using another adapter. I believe I had a tutorial for this once, which I'll need to locate.
@PCaddictslive how comes the computer that you joined to the domain doesnt have internet acces? the adapter in the sys tray has an ! in a yellow triangle?
@MrJakewoodall it actually did, but for some reason within vbox, when it first starts up, I think it always showed that icon on all my vms, but if I were to click on it, it would clear up. Weird huh?
It's probably worth adding that only Professional or above versions of Windows can connect to a domain; a Microsoft restriction. Is there any way for Windows Home users to connect to a domain?
I currently have my home network setup with just a router, and every computer is connected to that router. I installed Windows Server 2008 on a spare computer to play around with it. I kind of wanted to keep the router settings the same, so every computer could still connect with the server off (not sure I want to leave it on 24/7 yet, since I'm just learning about it) so is it possible to specify just on some computers what DHCP server to use (the router or the server?).
@lhamil64 Glad to hear you are learning/testing Windows Server 2008. As far as your question goes, if you wanted to create a "test environment", you could always find an old router, and plug it into your network (disabling DHCP service), setting it on another IP scheme, and then plug in your 2008 server, and client(s) to that router. Or... just disable DHCP on the router, set it up on the server, then just turn DHCP back on on the router when you want to shut off your server.
@PCAddictsLive I quickly looked in my router config and I don't know if I can actually turn off DHCP.. I'll look more carefully later. Also, I don't have any old routers (we were using our ISP's modem/router and finally got a new one last year), so I guess I'll have to try turning off DHCP if I can.
@lhamil64 Ya, you might want to check the settings on that ISP modem - some of them have DHCP services. If you have/use a router, tell me the make/model, and I can help ya out.
@PCAddictsLive bro i have a question. i have followed up all the step you said till now but i still cant connect to my client computers. i think thers someting wrong with my scop thats what i put in the scope 192.168.0.51 - 192.168.0.92 after configuring this then i went to my DHCP manager but i didnt find ip address in adress leases? i have no idea what exacly happened? when i try to connect from my clients it says eror " make sure bla bla. please help man
@AkramPropheci Maybe in your scope "options", you need to specify the DNS fields. You need to set them so your clients will know what server to use for name resolution. Make sure you set them to be whatever your server's IP address is.
@ryan42271 Glad ya got it working! Sure, good idea about WSUS - Might take me a few days since I wiped my HDD (had some hardware probs), and now have nothing setup, but will do. Thanks!
how do i reset the " network connection binding" ?
because it is not shown in the " DHCP wizard "
and
Thank you for the video ^_^

@nairung2002 Ok, so on your server, if you open up DHCP mmc, do you see a red "X" anywhere? I'm wondering if the DHCP service is "Unauthorized".

@BenBarrettBBB Good point, you are correct. No, you cannot join a "Home" version to a domain.
PCAddictsLive 4 months ago
@PCAddictsLive Yes you can if you use novell zenworks

bro do i need a static ip address for to communicate with my client computers?
AkramPropheci 5 months ago
@AkramPropheci It's best practice to have the server set with a static IP address. The clients can use DHCP.

@PCAddictsLive The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

Could you do a video and windows update services (WSUS) setting up and adding pc/clients doesn't seem to be a lot of videos explaining.

@ryan42271 Thanks bro... ya... you might need to disable the DHCP server service provided by Virtualbox (if you are using Virtualbox).
